Role Queue only came about because GOATS basically rendered 1/2 of the roster useless and nobody wanted DPS players. They whined and cried and what the result was, was 2/2/2.
On the surface 2/2/2 stays as an existing entity to carry the tank and support classes. If 2/2/2 didn’t exist, every match would be 5 DPS + 1 support, or 4 DPS+Hog/Ball (glorified DPS) + 1 support. Anyone who plays open queue now likely thinks this.
However, most support mains and tank mains stick to 2/2/2 because it ensures their duty is shared. OQ can quickly turn into a DPS fiesta with a solo support or solo tank, something players don’t want to do.
That said, GOAT variations are still wildly powerful in Open Queue, the issue is finding 6 players who will play it. But if you have it, it’s incredibly OP and renders the enemy team of DPS virtually useless. Many times they are forced to play a minimum of 2 tanks and 2 supports, essentially playing role queue at that point.
So while 2/2/2 appears to allow tank and support players to have balanced matches, the reality is it’s protecting DPS players from a return to GOATS and tank heavy comps, nullifying their DPS play, forcing more tank and support play from them.
Now I’m not saying the entire community and every rank reverts to GOATS if Role Queue is deleted, but what I am saying is that Role Queue exists to promote and protect the DPS class.
Too many DPS, and one team of all DPS gets diffed hard by the other team of all DPS, and half the DPS players have a bad experience. Too many tanks, and the DPS virtually get no value. Just the right amount of tanks and “helpless” squishies (supports) (2/2/2) and DPS only have to be better than 2 other DPS to carry a match.
It is simply ironic DPS players flood Open Queue to avoid RQ DPS queue times. They are the causation of it’s existence. They have become the causation of it’s brokenness.
Delete Role Queue and watch all the power return to the tank and support classes.
