The set of infamous Widow maps, CR and JT to name a few, are the least fun when they are dominated by Widow Hanzo. Getting constantly one shot is not a fun game mechanic in OW2, and frankly shouldn’t exist in OW2 at all. When playing against dbl sniper, many feel like they just can’t effect the game, DPS rule all. This feeling is more so on Support. Here are my balance solutions to make the game fun.
Widow:
Increase her charge time by 10-30% or, less likely, reduce her damage. 70% to one shot squishies feels unfair. When she peaks for 0.2 seconds, instantly gets a kill with no counter play besides being out of los, it isn’t fun. Having a one shot on Widow can persist, for now, but that’s only because it’s her whole character design.
Hanzo:
Reduce his damage so his headshot does 195 damage. Increase his firerate by 15-25%. He shouldn’t be able to one shot, it’s that simple. Name one time you thought it was fun and fair to get a haircut by a projectile the size of Manhattan fired randomly and shifted mid air to hit your dome. It isn’t fun. He isn’t fun. He has Widow ult on cooldown, mobility on cooldown and has the capability to one shot. Not cool.
We’ve seen what ripples RH and Sojourn had on the community and his effect with his oneshot. It’s time to remove the DBL sniper meta for good, and eventually remove all one shots in the game for good.
I’m tired of people who essentially don’t bother to use cover and just open themselves up to getting shot complain about getting sniped. You have ways to avoid Hanzo and Widow from one shotting you, learn the map, use them.
I’ve heard this argument before, here’s the thing, if it’s a skill issue, then why is she more popular, the higher up the ranks you go, if what you say is true then we wouldn’t see Characters like widow almost ever in the higher ranks because everyone’s positioning there is amazing, it’s why they’re there
You can’t say get good when players that are good still get wrecked by widows
Every single map has ways to deal with a Widow/Hanzo player including ways to flank them or use cover. Worst case scenario you can swap (or ask your team to swap) to a character that counters them either directly or via suppressive fire to keep them from getting a shot off.
But if you insist on staying out in the open, running in a straight line and not supressing those players, then you will get sniped, and honestly? You’ll deserve it, because you’re the one making the mistake.
You didn’t answer my question, why is she so popular in a rank where they’re supposedly isn’t a skill issue, ive scene widows doing consistently well in OWL and top 500, and they certainly aren’t suffering from a skill issue
Unless ofc you wanna say that they are suffering from a skill issue in which case if countering a character takes so much skill that the best players in a world struggle to do it, then maybe a nerf is warranted
OWL and the Top 500 are completely irrelevant to this discussion. That group of players is understandably limited and the game is not balanced around them. It’s balanced around where the majority sit, which is in Bronze/Silver/Gold.
And when you’re up against a Bronze/Silver/Gold Widow/Hanzo player, it’s very much a skill issue if you’re not aware of the map and know how to deal with those heroes.
Actually they are entirely relevant becuase you claimed it was a skill issue, so to see if that’s true let’s see how well the SKILLED players do against her, and given her popularity and the fact that she has and continues to do better the higher ranks you go it shows that even the highest skilled players have a hard time with her, and that point can’t you call it a skill issue
You’re trying to make it relevant, ignoring the fact that all top 500 and OWL players are leagues above the majority who are the ones doing the complaining about Widowmaker and Hanzo.
Their skill is the issue. Not the Top 500 or OWL players.
It is Relevant because if all levels of play are struggling then you can’t call it a skill issue, a skill issues means that the player in question is not good enough to solve the issue, and that implies that there’s a player out there who is, so name em
They’re trying to show you the flaw in your argument that if you struggle vs Widow then it’s a skill issue. Widow is best at the highest tiers of play where players are least likely to suffer from skill issues. So if her value increases as instances of “skill issues” decreases then it’s pretty obvious that her strength isn’t a skill issue.
It’s on the end of the players getting murdered by Widow, for not having map awareness, for not counterpicking, for not suppressing her when she does pop out to take a shot etc etc.
irrelevant, you don’t know any better than i do what the majority think because they usually aren’t talking about there thoughts, we can only get a rough estimate, and if you wanna go by rough estimates then I’d say from all the posts that I’ve been seeing and that you’ve also admitted to being tired of seeing, as well the devs openly acknowledging one shots as an issue that yeah id say that many players do suffer
I’ve seen really good Widow players, and they’re the type of player who if you try to flank, will throw down a poison mine, grapple out of range and while in mid-air get a headshot on someone on your team, if not you.
They’ll see the enemy team staying out of line of sight and they won’t stand around waiting for a shot, they’ll quickly switch position, even if that position is more risky for them, just to nab a kill. They’ll also swap to another hero if it becomes obvious that they’re being countered.
But the majority of Widow players are not that skilled. The majority of Widow players can be flanked, and will make mistakes, and yet people will still get sniped by these lower skilled Widow players because they’re the ones making the mistakes.
Your average ‘Widow Complainer’ is the type of player who refuses to find cover, who refuses to swap to a hero that can counter and will often run in a straight line making them an easy target.
