games were going well tonight, people were communicating and giving call outs, IN GOLD/Plat even!!! I was 6-2, right at 2495… then everything went south. Lost 3 games straight. The first a very close game, even in team skill. After telling the team the enemy Rein has shatter, Mei walls choke, enemy Ashe sends Bob in, I turn around to block it because we had nothing to block it except for me (Rein) then, Mei immediately drops her wall, the enemy rein shatters. I asked her why, they typed “Sorry lol”… that lost us Hanamura.
Next game, another close game, evenly balanced skill wise. Im Rein, my Zarya is tilting at our DPS and starts to just throwing ults out without any coordination. She says “im at 10K damage, im done. I cant do anymore”… She had grav and just threw it on payload in kings row, but our team is a distance away. We lost.
Next game, I won.
Next game, Havana. I lose another really close game. Im sure we all couldve done better. I was getting ridiculed because I held shatter, but there was no good opportunity to shatter. Our DPS could have gone something to stop the hog. Our Monkey kept diving in by himself and dying. He couldnt play Zarya, He kept getting counter shattered by rein which i why I went rein.
And lastly, the last game I played Volskaya. I have a DPS whos typing math equations and theories and talking about how they want to go to MIT the entire game in all chat. And you know, with so much typing you have to stand still. Needless to say, we were 5v6 a lot. We lost.
Started off tonight 2412, went to 2495, now im at 2421. Am I being gate kept? I hear that the MM system will give you hard games or games that require 110% team effort to win if you are about to rank up to basically see if you can bypass the hardships and prove you belong somewhere or keep you at a 50% win rate. I use to think this was phony but im not so sure.
How much of a factor do you think you had on the games you won?
How many opportunities do you think you have to correct your mistakes on the games you lost, which could have won you the game?
As long as you’re always the reason your team wins: you’re doing great.
You lost despite having 100% shatter accuracy? It’s fine, just keep going.
You won because “your team played well”? Step up.
You lost despite having a clear chance of doing something differently? Step up.
Stop stressing at your teammates mistakes, you can’t control them. If you’re playing perfectly like a t500 player and still losing in Plat you have all the rights to complain. Until then, watch your replays and see what you could have done differently.
This forum is 50/50. There are people like you who say “maybe its not your team, maybe its you” Then there are people who understands and knows what im talking about and has gone through something liek this themselves. OR, they have gone through something like this and just says “you cant win them all”…
No, it’s true that you really can’t win them all. But you can definitely win 66% of your games and still be climbing. Of course you’re gonna have unwinable games where you team are just straight up donkeys, but it’s not 50/50. Blaming your teammates for your loses suggest you’re playing absolutely perfectly.
Imagine if you land all your shatters, every single time. Would you win? Very probably so.
but if you aren’t putting out stats indicative of the next rank, you need to be focusing on stat improvement over winning games.
and if you can be so easily prevented from climbing taht is pretty indicative that the system has your skill relatively accurately estimated.
I know it’s annoying to be in a carry role for the team, but proving you can carry is how the system knows you belong higher. that or outputting good or higher stats than belong at that rank.
also, if you were 200-300 above this rank in skill you wouldn’t find being given a hard match a way of gatekeeping you. It’s merely an unfavored match, but if they misrated you then it would be a winnable game for you.
these difficult matches tend to be hard to carry so you would need to be 300 points better to win those.
so ultimately if you are just trying to improve a little to gain like the last 100 points for the next rank, rather than worrying about those difficult matches you should just raise your stats enough that the system actually thinks you belong higher
You get so many close (good) games, and you still complain?
Others are getting lots of games lost at start and very one sided games…
Games decided by your team mates before the game even starts…
Those are really frustrating games, and you complain about having lots of close games…
I think that the system does this all the time, not only when you close to rank up.
Probably when your MMR is higher then your SR, to see if you really worth that high MMR, or trying to create a fair game (both teams have an about the same amount of MMR total as SR total. So if your MMR is higher then your SR, you get placed with people who have lower MMR, so you average is the same as the opponents, or it puts you against a harder opponent)
I dont think he is complaining about team mates, rather about the system.
If it fixes matches instead of giving you random opponents who have the same SR, is fixes(trying to make fair/equal games) games by creating harder games by giving your weaker (lower MMR) teammembers or stronger(MMR) opponents.
He is literally listing a list of reasons on why he thought he lost. All of them relates to his teammate’s mistakes.
That thinking is flawed. The system isn’t designed to only get matches for HIM ( a single player). There’s 12 players in the game. No way a system can go in its way to design a game to make (him specifically) lose. If the system really wants him to lose, why the heck does his teammates (5 people) get to lose as well? Doesn’t make a single sense. A Widow in his team can literally just randomly pop off and the “supposed fixed match making” will just be gone.
Even if I wanted, I can’t predict the outcome of a game. Interaction of 12 totally random players is not something that an algorithm can control. Unless he’s literally going against people 1k SR higher than him, that “matchmaking is forcing me losses” is just pure bogus.
If you think there is anything else holding you back than you then you are wrong, unless its physical like your PC is on fire with 5FPS, your monitor is broken or you play with touch pad.
Not perfect but Im very aware. I make less mistakes than them you could say. I can try and give suggestions try to coordinate something, tell the DPS to not overextend. Tell the healers to heal them if they do. Call out who has ults and cooldowns. Callout when im going to shatter or ult. But a lot of the times its not enough. Because its up to them to listen. And if they dont I have to play “their” OW game instead of how you should play. Also, my problem is expecting everyone to know certain strats or expect people to know how to do something or to have seen something via a GM or top500 player. And many havnt. A lot of people dont even watch twitch or Youtube to try and improve, they just go in and go at it. And have been for thousands of hours. Im far from perfect, hell i take breaks from the game for several seasons at a time if i get fed up with ranked. But I do know a thing or two.
It is stupid to expect people to understand GM or t500 strats. Like Im pretty sure you as a gold player dont understand, monkey sees, monkey does. You need more than trying to replicate, you need to understand why they do the things, unless its something obvious like clicking heads with widow, but even then when they do it, how they do it is important too.
I dont think you can really carry as a tank, IMO. You need teamwork to do so. You cant just pick rein and do your thing. You need heals. You have to make sure your team knows youre pushing up and to keep you up if your shield drops. You have to back away and wait until your shield regens to push forward when it does drop. You have to do a lot to carry as a tank, but its all centered around teamwork. Because you can do everything right and not get healed, then what? your shield can only take so much and you dont have much HP. You can do a lot and your team doesnt care to listen, then what? You just hope for the best. Zarya is different, but she still requires team work. And if that teamwork isnt their you cant carry a thing.
One dropped wall wasnt reason why you lost match, come on. You write about like it was whole reason. It was just one of many mistakes done that match, for example you missing shatter at start of the game might be reason too. Its just line of events leading to end.
I agree that this is super retarded.
Just bad luck man, it happens when you constantly play with random people. Yes its often dice roll, but you have to endure and be consisten with your performance you can do it.
OGE (current Dallas Fuel main tank) is a former booster. If you can boost accounts with tanks, you sure as heck can carry as tanks. Him (OGE), ChoiHybun, Space and Harbleu are consistently on the top 20 of the ladder as tank players. I’m pretty sure that means something.
I treat it like an actual sport, I use to play football in HS and college. No one likes a close game that you feel you should have won and the mistake of someone messed it up. When you know something could have been done. And trust me If I knew I was at fault I would not have come here and said anything. Im the type to work on what I did wrong, not cry about it. But If I KNOW my teammate should have done something like make the appropriate DPS switch or not have over extended or even accidentally clicking “E” as mein and breaking your wall
This sucks. The crazy thing is, I did my support placements and was getting plat/Diamond games but I placed 2576. But when I did my Tank placements I was getting gold/PLat games. I did not play role queue and this is my first season back since season 16, so idk why give me gold/plats on tank but plat/diamonds on support.
It sucks to see the enemy DPS or tank counter pick your DPS and your DPS does not switch. And you go “hey, dont you think youre getting countered right now?” And they still dont swap. Like I noticed only a few people know how to counter pick, and when that happens most games are usually decided by who out-smarted the enemy/ who chose to be the smarter team.
Is it?
When you playing very well your MMR will be higher then your SR.
Instead of placing you against enemies and with team mates with the same SR, it will also be balancing out MMR (thats why it is called match maker rating)
So for example your SR is 2400 but your MMR is 2900. So instead of a random matchmaker who will only give you 2400SR opponents and team mates. The matchmaker will or give you a lower MMR team member(s) to balance out your high MMR. Or put also a higher MMR player in the opponents team…
So instead of giving you a randomly(more chance on an easy game because your skill is better then your SR) the system tries to create a fair balanced game.
What I think is not really competive.
Yes it will prevent one sided games (at least when MMR is not wrong).
And give you rather balanced games. On certain ranks those low MMR players will get annoying. For example a player who got carried to also 2400SR but has a MMR of 1950. His skill level and game knowledge is below most other players with 2400SR. And he doesn’t have learned to group up or play as a team.
Rather then having a player with a bit less technical skill, in the 2400-2600 rating, a lower MMR player is mostly someone who is useless, because he is playing 1 vs 6 type of game. Who never regroups, or not play with his team. And it is like 5vs6.
This is why im gold/plat now… Usually I get frustrated with the dice roll and just quit for the season or several. Last time I played was season 16. I was one tricking Genji getting “good” with him. climbed to 2307 from 1900. I feel to 1900 because in season 15 after I came back from a 2-3 season break I decided that genji was fun, and started the one trick. I fell from Plat to silver. season 10-12 I believe I was a flex plat player, playing what the team needed so we could win. season 14 I just did like 3 placements then uninstalled. I played seasons 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 14. I think If I hadve kept grinding and not have decided to one trick genji or take breaks I wouldnt have ended season 16 at 2307 or fell to silver (oof). So now the game is like, are you sure you are a plat tank?
Nothing you said explains how, when, and why the matchmaker decides to put a player into disadvantage, versus the standing of everyone else in the game. You’re only talking about the OP’s (the forced to “lose”) PoV, explain to me what the matchmaker is doing for the rest of the other player. Why is that particular player (lower MMR guy) expected to getting carried? When does that happen? Doesn’t that mean, the OP, at some point also was expected to get carried? What about his opponents? Are they expected to get a free win? Why?
yeah, they are but they are playing with other good players as well. So the teams are “balanced”. Like I said, it’s team work. You cant carry ALONE. OGE boosted by himself? No, he had people with him who im sure knew to not mess up and to pay attention and focus up on the game. Making sure to keep him alive because “he was the carry” and if your carry dies its GG. Overwatch is a team game now, I think the only way you can “carry” now is to just be an outstanding DPS. WHere as you use to be able to do it with Roadhog and Brig. (roadhog you still kinda can but if the enemy team is smart and reaper, Ana you… Then you have to make changes or force your team to play to keep you alive)
Why don’t you have “others” with you? Get a duo if you think that can help you. It definitely can, doesn’t prevent that Genji to solo dry blading a 1v6 though.
Im far from unintelligent. So yes, I understand GM strats. lol. Its not rocket science. That and being a college graduate. Anyone who has the ability to learn can grasp ideas and understand them. So again, yes, I understand GM strats. You’d have to have a very low IQ to not understand something when you see it all the time and watch it explained.
