To be clear upfront, I’m not suggesting we actually need some super anti-Widowmaker ability. I’m not really invested in either side of the Widowmaker balance arguments that come and go on the forums, but the way someone phrased things in another thread popped this question into my head:
What would an ability specifically made to counter Widowmaker (preferably without being overpowered in general) look like?

The idea that came to mind for me was something resembling Winston’s barrier, except attached much like Zarya’s projected barrier on an enemy. So you’d essentially be sticking a Winston barrier to the enemy Widowmaker, who then can’t hit anything outside of it until she and/or her teammates break her out of the bubble (or until it expires). She can freely run around and grapple during that time, but the bubble will follow her wherever she goes.
Given that Widowmaker tends to position separately from her teammates, this would often isolate her for the entire duration. When placing this on enemy front-liners, though, it would end up being destroyed just as quickly as a regular Winston barrier.
