Counterpicking is not "cringe"

If there’s a Widow you’ll expect me to drop whatever I’m doing and go Winston. If there’s a D.Va, you’ll expect me to immediately be Zarya. But if I ask for one Reaper into Winston or some splash into Symm while having nothing but snipers, I get alle a tryhard or something.
Swapping characters is the core mechanic of the game and it won’t get you banned or something, even in QP.

I got called “cringe” for counterswapping once on tank the other day when I was playing with my gold friend who was trying out different DPS characters for the first time. She finished with 2k damage and went 5/11. It was a funny time. Soon as the match was over the enemy tank goes:

“You don’t have to counterswap 24/7 to win”

“Yes actually, I do lol”

Sometimes it just be like that.

Edit: Since apparently people don’t understand banter. The above interaction was a joke. I rarely counterswap on tank, but if you want a chance at winning a rough game, sometimes you do it.

Way to take my quote completely out of context. Did you not understand that it was a joke?

My skill is being able to play almost every tank in the game at a high level. Counterswapping is part of the game. I’m glad we’re moving away from it but I’m not going to let you steam roll me for the sake of pride because I’m playing Rammatra into Mauga. No amount of skill can make up for some disadvantaged matchups. Screw that. I like winning.

Most of the time I counterswap it’s because I’ve accidently picked something that’s countered by the enemy team’s tank to begin with. Why would I stay on them and let myself get screwed the entire game?

If that was true you would be able to overcome any enemy tank choice, instead you went the easy route and countered the enemy tank

Correct, now you could not be lame and at least mirror the tank pick but again you want ez route and a crutch

That’s like saying “You can solo carry any game on Mercy if you just had the skill”. Nah, actually matchups make a big difference and that effects how much fun I have with the game. And yeah, I countered the tank. I was playing with my 5/11 gold friend and wanted a chance at winning. Cry more.

Or… I could just pick a tank that isn’t countered by the enemy tank, which is usually what I do. Sometimes that happens to be their counterpick, sometimes not. You seem to be under the impression that I only counterswap, but the reality is I just don’t like being countered myself.

Why mirror when you can surpass? Almost all my picks halfway through the game are counter picks. I’ll start with whoever, then depending on the team comp and my teams performance, start swapping to compliment my team or to dismantle the enemy team.

You’re unskilled garbage if you change your hero situationally. Everyone knows the truly skilled players are the onetricks who never adapt even if they enjoy playing every hero and know it would give their team more synergy.

Cringe, imagine being proud of being cringe needing a crustch cause otherwise you would be useless

Finally you get it :moyai:
Why play heroes i dont like just because the enemy went horse or whatever? Wins won by counterswapping feel empty and dirty, undeserved

Is this the  that made you post this topic, OP?

Read the post again.

I like playing every hero. Counterswapping to me isn’t a chore. I’m not doing it to upset one player. It’s usually just a coincidence and I’m just playing what I want based around the team comps.

It really showcases how tanks and supports are expected to counterpick but god forbid something makes the flanker/hitscan have to swap. If an Ashe main is ever incentivized into picking Sym or Mei, sound the alarms!!!

Remember when game used to be fun and full of skill expression even on QP??
Counterswapping takes all the skill of the game and throws it in the trash cause now skilless people win by pressing a button in spawn

The game has always been about counterpicking. OW at its core is Heroes As a Toolbox.

The only difference now is that tanks need to be counterpicked because of their solo tanking mandated buffing, while popular DPS are impossible to counterpick outside themselves.

Still is. And if you think the game is won only by counterswapping that sounds like a skill issue to me.

It is pretty cringe and pretending as if it is not cringe made me literally physically cringe.

Do what you want, but let’s not pretend it is anything other than lame. People scared to play their own main are absolutely cringe. Why do they even pretend? Just start Rammatra! You know you are going to pick him anyways. Get it over with.

It was never as strong as it is today thanks to 5v5

On the contrary, if you can only win by counterswapping as a crutch mechanic and manipulate the balance massively to your favour by pressing 1 buttono then looks like you had no skill to begin with

I never said I did. Who are you talking to buddy?

I would recommend taking your pills

I was talking about one particular game where I was playing with my gold friend who was 5/11.

Context matters. Be sure to read!

People complaining about someone playing paper into rock are ridiculous. It’s a huge part of the games design.
