For the love of god… Please give leavers a permanent ban for the season… They knowingly have to press that button, then have to agree to the consequences that are already in place… just make it a permanent ban immediately and not after messing with other peoples ranks.
Edit: So what if someone leaves at any point of the game… they are the only one to get affected by rank going up or down that match?
I never said DC should get a perma ban. I said the people who agree and click the “I understand these rules” button… but if they have bad ping and dc so many times then they should just get a ban. they can just go and play QP.
I had tonight 5 leavers.
3 of them were at the start of the game. 1 of them said even “sorry can’t play now and left”. Other 2 were rage quitters in opposite team.
Not everyone leaves at the start of the game on purpose.
Blizzard absolutely knows if you clicked on the “Leave Game” button. They’ve said so, though I can’t recall the exact thread. It was a while back.
Maybe they can’t tell the difference between an honest DC or someone who yanked out their network cable, but they know if you were dumb enough to click LEAVE GAME in the middle of a match. First time should be the end of your comp season.
As for accidental vs. intentional disconnecting… I’m okay with giving them 3 chances. If they are still queuing up after 3 legit disconnects in the same season, then it happens yet again, then they should get a ban too. If you KNOW your connection is crap, and you still queue up again and again, you should get a season ban too.
If you get caught with an actual hack, your entire Blizzard account should be locked down permanently. Not just OW, but ALL Blizzard games, WoW, Hearthstone, Diablo… all of 'em. All purchases should be forfeit, the card that paid for that account should be red-flagged for identity theft, someone should tell their mommy and daddy that they’ve been naughty on the computer box, and The Big Show should chokeslam you through a plate glass window into a pit of hangry fire ants.
Right, my point is your ban system is easily exploitable and, more importantly, doesnt solve the actual problem.
Between alt accounts and the sheer player population, the only way you’d actually see a meaningful decrease in the frequency of leavers is by banning half the playerbase.
Which still does nothing for the team left behind when leavers occur.
They should disable the leave button and make you have to do this. Why not at least try to make things slightly less convenient for intentional leavers?
pressing alt-f4 is already more convenient than pressing escape, clicking “leave game” and then clicking again to confirm. arguably, unplugging your internet cable or disconnecting from wireless is as well. someone determined to leave and avoid extra penalties for “leaving the proper way” will do so.
Doesn’t matter. A leave is a leave. Bad connection? Then don’t play.
Although I must admit that the bans need to start out at at the a the absolute minimum one full day. Then one week. Then one month. The fourth in a season gets you a season ban.
If some of the snowflakes out there feel that this is too strong, at least make the bans be served in the game.
You are assuming that all leavers do so intentionally. This is not the case.
There are many reasons why someone can unintentionally disconnect that are beyond the player’s control, from unscheduled Internet Service Provider interruptions to power blackouts, hardware failures, & more.
It’s already unfair that those who leave unintentionally get treated the same as those who intentionally disconnect. There is no need to make the penalty worse.
In fact, there would be no need for a leaver penalty at all if Blizzard would just add backfill to Competitive already.
But then people would just rip out their ethernet plugs to avoid the ban, wouldn’t they?
Besides, if they’re at the point that they’re willing to leave and drop SR or whatever, it’s not like you were going to win anyways. If anything, they’re just saving you a ton of time by letting you get out of the game sooner.
You’re forgetting about de-rankers. They leave on purpose. Then there are the kids who have to go eat dinner, get called away by mommy, etc. These are the players that need to punished.
Let ME decide if the current game is a waste of my time or not. I really don’t want someone else deciding that.
The issue isn’t being too strong, it’s how easy they are to circumvent.
Not to mention the people most affected by this are not the people who chronically leave games.
The only way you’d see a meaningful decrease in the frequency of leavers is to create so much collateral damage that half the playerbase would be affected.
You may be ok with that, but most people (and more importantly, blizzard) are not.
Not to mention that it does literally nothing to help the team left behind. You can permaban someone on their first dc/leave, their team still loses.
