Cole Cassidy? I’ll stick to cowboy

No offense to anyone who likes the name, but it’s new, unfamiliar and scary to me. I wished they took the meme to heart and named him “Dave”, just Dave

Also they named him after a known criminal of the 19th century and I’m pretty sure there’s been at least one Cole in the entire human history that did something bad.

Dave is not bad but I propose McHuckleberry or, even better, John Smith (cause I’m very creative).

AndyB confirmed they didn’t.

I love AndyB, but I don’t buy this. There’s just no way the Blizzard design team named a cowboy Cassidy without thinking about Butch Cassidy, that makes no sense.

There’s a difference between throwing a bunch of cowboyish names in a pot (Perhaps gathered by looking at real cowboys from the past) and pairing two together to see what fits the best and intentionally naming the character after a particular individual.

Incidentally something similar can be said for the name Jesse Mccree by what we’ve been told, but I digress.

? They didnt.

Some of you “Mccree” defenders are delusional.

Purposely naming somebody after one != Accidently sharing the name with somebody.

For me also name dont roll in the mind that easy so yea i will still probably think and say mcree, hope that will not lead to any weirdos reporting me for that in future.

They can report you for that if they want to.

They can report people for anything, i simply hope it dont goes that far in this, its simply 5 years with one hero with shorten version of name i remember better. I sometimes even was forgetting he was jesse, i remembered Mccree only XD

They can’t actually, confirmed by AndyB.

The problem is that Butch Cassidy is one of the most well-known cowboy outlaws ever. He’s a household name and otherwise Cassidy is an uncommon name at best. To say that they didn’t draw inspiration from Butch just seems disingenuous to me. He’s the reason why the name is ‘cowboyish’ at all.

I don’t have a problem with naming him that, but let’s at least be honest with ourselves here.

Exactly, Cole Cassidy is scary to you. It has intimidation factor.

I think i saw only post from him about other way around, about spam reports for not calling him old name.

To be fair, im bad with names, he either get some easy to remember nick name or i will be lost in the game more than usually XD

That’s not a problem at all. What I was getting at is that they probably did gather the name Cassidy from Butch Cassidy. I imagine it was one of many names that they threw into a pot and paired against eachother (i.e. the same process they talked about when discussing how they got the name “Jesse Mccree”)

The point is, that’s not the same thing as intentionally naming him after Butch Cassidy.

Actually you’re right. I stand corrected.
But to “Jeongyeon” if you wanna test your luck to see if they’re gonna ban people for calling him Mccree, please go ahead.

I think the takeaway from that post was “don’t report players for using names you don’t like” tbh.

edit:
AndyB has explicitly said this will not be the case:

What about John Doe?

Isn’t that the standard name for people (or corpses) found with no way to identify themselves? The female equivalent would be Jane Doe

If only the name Cole didn’t remind me of either “coleslaw” or “Old King Cole” and if I hadn’t known several dainty girls with the name “Cassidy” in real life…

Cole should remind you of coal, a very hearty American pastime
