CC is ruining the game. Discuss

The increasing amount of Crowd Control in this game is ruining the gameplay experience of Overwatch.

Crowd Control abilities are fundamentally “unfun” mechanics in video games. They remove the player’s ability to play the game leaving the player feeling increasingly frustrated the more CC that gets thrown at them.

Nearly every new hero added to the game has brought in more CC. From shield bash to Ashe’s shotgun blast, sombra’s silences to the CC abomination that is Wrecking Ball.

The devs have said before that they are going to try and reduce the amount of CC in the game, but how is this possible when over half the cast of characters have CC abilities. Coupled with the increase in damage dealt and reduction in healing capabilities, tanking in this game is becoming more and more frustrating.

I used to main rein, now whenever I play him I want to stop playing the game as a whole because of CC.

I feel like its a culmination of several things thats ruining the game in all honesty.

Lack of dev to player interaction, painfully slow balance updates, mediocre balance updates, obvious attention towards OwL than the main game…etc.

CC is annoying, especially since I play Rein, but I wouldn’t say its the main catalyst to this games problems.

well the devs recently said they’re gonna back off on making heroes with cc abilities sooo I guess they listened.

which is why Hammond and Ashe both have at least 3 CC abilities

IMO they can remove all the CC in the game ONLY if tracer gets proper nerfs.

i dont think cc abilities are a big deal, with out them i think the game would be very stale. they just need to add new or modify existing characters with anti/null cc abilities

Ashe has only 1 CC ability that is on a long cooldown, Hammond has 2, 1 on a massive cooldown and the other easy to block and stop. I honestly don’t understand why people hate CC when it keeps heros like Genji, tracer and Winston in check.

But they can’t just remove cc, Roadhog, Doomfist, Hammond, McCree are all built around their CC. CC will always exist in some form or another as it is necessary to keep all mobility and dive focused comps in check.
People complain about how FPS shouldn’t have CC as it doesn’t work but how many FPS give you as much freedom as Tracer or Winston.

Unpopular opinion time: CC is not ruining the game, this attitude is.

Every hero in the game has the “ability” to make you sit out for 7 full seconds. It’s called death, the worst kind of CC there is. And not a single person would ever complain about it. You getting stunned for 0.5 seconds is not ruining your experience of the game, it’s your attitude.

And if you really hate CC too much, try picking Orisa once in a while, the hero they added who has immunity to CC on cooldown and has a pick rate lower than the average eliminations of a QP Widowmaker.

CC is more than just stuns. It also includes status ailments and zoning. In that technicality, Dva’s ult would be considered CC as well. (yes, yes, I know, Dva’s ult is a joke, as are many “zoning” ults. My larger point is, CC is more than just stuns)

Because it doesn’t actually keep them in check. It’s the armor and chain-healing that’s dethroned Dive and formed GOATS. CC does a great job keeping low mobile heroes in check though, because obviously, they need that. This part conveniently gets ignored for whatever reason.

yknow, maybe there’s a very good reason for that

There is: players want to play specific heroes, rather than the ones that would be most effective against the enemy team.

Either that, or she’s bad. But I guess we’ll go with this.

The devs made a post about it.

I also think it has to do with Orisa being a little niche in her design, as well as other options typically being easier to play and often better for a given situation.

I like Orisa on say, Illios well. She’s great there as an example. But say, Illios Ruins? She leaves a little something to be desired.

CC is meant to keep mobility in check. If we didn’t have any type of stuns or knockbacks, mobility would just roll over anything that doesn’t have mobility.

The problem is people are rather reluctant to counter pick or work together. Nothing will change that.

I’m laughing and crying at how savage and true this is :sob:

No. It’s not. Learn to respect other people’s threat ranges.

How do you know she’s bad? No one ever plays her! It’s circular. If the problem really is CC then you should be jumping onto her, getting automatic victory by nullifying the enemy’s strategy, and rising to top 500 in a week.

But you’re not playing her, you’re playing Reinhardt and demanding nerfs for every hero that gets in your way.

the people who created the ccs is what is ruining this game

Eh, I think CC is lower down on the list of problems that Overwatch has right now.
