Look, i get that it might be hard to get a balanced game at 3am. Some of us can only play at that time. I would so much rather wait an extra 3 min than have another absurdly unbalanced game. Last game the other dps went 0-8 and did 976 dmg in a 7min game. HUH?
idk man…i get that people are drunk and not playing at their peak late at night…but I never wait more than a min for a game on any role. Im totally fine chilling in a deathmatch for 3 min while yall find me some better players
Seems like you are in the pot where most of the players are, probably silver, could also be bronze or gold.
The matches are pretty balanced elo wise, the Problem at low elo is people tend to not counterswitch heroes.
A Reinhard that doesnt Change but the enemy is a ramattra.
Thats whats going on at low elo.
Overwatch 2 is much more rock paper scissor than Overwatch 1.
People need to adapt and cope with it.
This was quickplay, so granted larger skill range, but im typically in plat/diamond mmr…and this cassidy literally put more shots into the ground than into enemy players. I just watched his vod…and I honestly think hes either completely new or playing on controller. Dude was right clicking from miles away.
Its pretty obvious that the developers have chosen to drastically reduce queue times across the board at the expense of balance. Im just asking that they tone that back a bit.
Theres a middle ground here. OW1 had a far smaller player base by the end, and youre right that queue times for dps got a little out of control (i always mained tank so didnt affect me as much).
In OW 2 queue times on every single role are less than a minute. Thats clearly happening at the expense of finding balanced games. Wouldnt you rather wait 2-3 min for a quality game? Nobody wants to wait 10 minutes for a game…but can we wait 2?
lol I mean I can’t argue with that. I think they are still working a lot on matchmaking and queue times and everything. They kind of seem to be a mess right now.
But I don’t know. I like quick queue times. And the games I play don’t feel all that unbalanced, so I can’t really complain. Although, I only play competitive.
Yea…I mean i probably should just play more competitive given theyve publicly stated they use a much tighter balance range for that queue…but the key word in my post is off-hours.
Im just spitballing here, but wouldnt it be possible to keep the low queue times during peak hours when theres enough of a player base to support it, and then allow queue times to grow as the player base shrinks later into the night?
Unfortunately making sure the matches are more balanced skill wise is not a priority for Blizzard to the extent the “complainers” want. They said so pretty much in a recent dev stream that featured the matchmaking devs. They said that the queues would take too long in comp. So I assume the same would go for qp. So you just have to accept it, or move on to a game that values a more fair match.
How Exactly would you make this happen? There are less players available at this time if they where to give you balanced games, you could be waiting up to or exceeding an hour, the majority of players are normal and are asleep at 3am.
The only way I could see this working is if they allow you to join a different regional server but then you would have ping and language discrepancies.
I did, op asks for longer queues for more balanced games at 3am, unfortunately because the matchmaker hunts for quick games over balanced games you get quick games with a high skill disparity because there are less players online at that time of day so the games are more likely to be unbalanced.
if the matchmaker was to tighten up it will take much longer to find enough players within a tight skill gap for a game to start.
The only way you could get more balanced games at that time is if you are pulled into other servers in different regions where there is a larger pool of players to pick from, which comes with a whole other set of problems
Great so surely then you understand that there is a more reasonable wait time between less than a minute, and the exceeding an hour timeline you suggested.
Yea dude…the player base is smaller. I get that. Thats why im willing to wait longer
Dps waited for 10 min in OW1. Im not saying that was ideal…but why is it so crazy to suggest that waiting 3 min instead of 30sec might lead to a better quality game?
Ok, you establish that you are ok with having to wait longer, but you are unfortunately in the minority of players, what you are asking for is great for you but can negatively effect the majority of players who play at normal times.
Most players want fast queues as they have the attention span of a gold fish they see a 5minute plus queue and decide that this isn’t worth it and go play another game. This is what happened in ow1 people (DPS players) whined that their queues were too long so blizzard removed a tank as that was the bottleneck.
The Devs are in the situation that they want to appeal to as many players as possible as more players = more cash for Bobby. Sure they could change the Matchmaking algorithm after a certain time to tighten up so outliers are happy as well but that takes dev time, which means money, which means Bobby can’t buy another sports car.
The Devs need to find a compromise between fast queues and balanced games but I unfortunately do not trust in their ability to do so.
So lack of dev time/resources is an argument I agree with you on. Youre right that the happiness of off hours players is probably small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.
Im no developer and I dont claim to understand the inner workings of the matchmaking algorithm, but dev resources aside shouldnt it be theoretically possible to adjust the algorithm at off hours?
Red, it’s already scaring off players. I about shat my pants in comp tonight with some of players I got. Tighten the belt on this MM because the game is quickly losing its competitive integrity.
