Can we just have normal MMR comp system?

I still don’t understand why we are allowing differing ranks in lobbies. These are horrible experiences for EVERYONE.

I understand SR =! MMR and the other team should, theoretically, have similar skilled roles. But why are we trying to reinvent the wheel? All in the name of queue times?

I can accept losses when it is a skill diff in a true ranked lobby where everyone is ranked to be xyz. But when you allow x rank to be in a y lobby it isn’t fun. The amount of passive tanks not knowing how to play in diamond+ lobbies etc… is just insanity.

I know eventually you should climb to your true rank given enough games. But why does the road have to be so painful and confusing?

I truly love this game. OW1 comp has had a positive impact on my life and I only want to see the successor become a smashing hit. But when I see all these weird and terrible decisions (looking at you, Activision) it pains me so much to see it dragged through the mud.

EDIT: typos and just found out about the recent article discussing about the MMR system on reddit etc…

TLDR balanced matchmaking is not a priority…just…wow

Honestly, I don’t know why they changed it in the first place. The original system was just fine and I NEVER saw anyone complain like “oh this rank system is so unfair!”

1 win = +15SR or + 20SR (based on match performance)
1 lose = -15SR or -20SR (based on performance)
Matches match you with players with skill ratings between 200 above or below your rating is perfect.

Seems like a perfectly balanced system to me!

“But but… what about Smurf’s staying in gold for too long?!”
More than one way to fix that and I thought they made it so smurfing wasnt possible.

No.

You get dumber teammates the better you do until you carry them to GM.

Then, in GM as your reward, you get Gold players in your lobby.

Oh, and you like to solo queue, too? As a support you say? Well, have we have a deal for you. Here’s a 5 stack to play against! They will loooovvve coordinating hunting your poor solo queue support butt down while the rest of your 4 other solo queue teammates haven’t a clue what’s going on. (Just had a 5 solo vs. 5 stack match today.)

Hey Sisyphus, go push that rock over there up the hill again - and again and again.

And then when you’re done being yanked like a yo-yo up and down the ladder, stop by the Shop and buy a few skins.

Balanced matches don’t pay the bills, son. Selling skins does, tho.

K, thx.

I actually just made a post about this here, a friend of mine who is a masters player can’t climb out of gold and he keeps getting deranked even though his win rate is crazy good and he “wins by default”. He doesnt wanna smurf but blizzard is making him:

I meant it by Blizzard wants smurfs to get out of gold as fast as possible so they don’t ruin it for metal ranks (cause they rather the matchmaker do that instead lmao). But yeah, I actually just went from low gold to diamond today in 4 hours. My main being a top 300 peak. So I think your friend just had some bad luck tbh.

nope, my friend is >>winning<< 70% of his games without even trying and theres a GLITCH where u cant rank up

It’s to the point where my duo partner has to do 25k healing and I have to do 40+ elims to even get a win, on a team that can’t even get a positive kd/r.

It’s absolutely ridiculous, this matchmaker.

It will do anything, at any cost, to force you to 50%. I don’t care what anyone says. That’s what it’s doing.

OW1 ranked system was perfect, that sr number going up after every win was just fair and I still remember the 300 sr I climbed in one season since it just felt really earned, now everyone keeps ranking up lots of divisions every season because of the reset

But this isn’t about balance any more. Overwatch-fans are simply to naive and trusting, or maybe addicted is the right word.

They said that they made a patch today and another one will come tommorow to fix the matchmaking and the SR

Imagine if they had something to get inspired by, maybe Riot games, who have 2 very successful competitive games with functioning ranking systems.

But instead Blizzard are trying to reinvent the wheel by making it square.
