Try explaining that to the strain of Neanderthals that manages to survive this long.
this.
like weâre all tried to enjoy ourselves discussing about the game or having fun topic about the game or future game and then suddenly few people just want to raise voice for their politics stuff for some reasonâŚ
Donât read them. I donât do it.
Was that research from peer reviewed science journals? Were the tests using double-blind testing?
Because if not, itâs about as worthwhile as a conspiracy theory websites.
And most importantly, are they talking about the reduced risk to one person, or are they talking about how wearing a mask drastically reduces the amount of water droplets one puts out into the air?
The game has a political setting with political messages. The Omnic Rights movement, the destroyed and exploitative infrastructures of Egypt and Cuba, and how Overwatchâs far-reaching global interventionism either created or tried to solve those problems. These are semi-direct parallels to (especially American) actions on the world stage.
You canât shut down political discussion around a game with a narrative and setting that relies entirely on making allegories to current political and humanitarian issues. Itâs like making a forum about Beauty and the Beast but making it so you can only talk about the Beast. Heâs an integral part of the film, but Belle is equally important, and youâre alienating people by doing that.
Banning the discussion of politics on the forums for a political game is the most idiotic move you could ever take.
Never thought, that someone would turn game into literal propaganda tool.
Then I remembered, that Call of Duty series is entirely made out of it.
Yes. In fact the evidence I supplied is better than yours as it references RCTs.
The references are trusted sources from peer reviewed journals including JAMA. Please feel free to review them yourself.
No. Iâve given you the sources. These arenât remotely close to conspiracy theories.
Fair. But Iâm gonna guess the studies are focusing on one person wearing a mask.
Not both the sick people and the the healthy people wearing masks.
They examined both I believe.
Are you discussing effectiveness of masks and gloves at prevention of COVID-19 infection?
That you did. Which is good. Iâm to used to reddit were they try to pit peer review, versus a blog post by Karen McAntivax.
The game was never turned into a medium for political messages. It was that way from the start- watch âWe Are Overwatch,â âAre You With Us?,â or simply read the comics surrounding Uprising/Retribution. Both of them are fairly early examples of Overwatch exploring themes of anti-bigotry (Reinhardt shielding Omnic protestors) and interventionism (Winstonâs Recall order).
It was never turned into anything, really.
Personally I found parallels between Overwatch and UN - both founded with benevolent intentions, and both usually unable to do anything, when itâs needed.
I still laugh how other aspects are ignored. Such as Hammond and Winston. Theyâre fine and okay to exist. Which means other animals should be exploited. But the Omnics are the only focused. The problem with this games politics and the real world politics. Is the crap with people saying remove the police skins from OW. That is a form of censorship. In a future game thatâs long past what weâre dealing with. It wouldnât align with what they established in OWâs future.
Their current worry is a race of robots. You already have a parallel for it. Thereâs nothing more you can do. Unless OW some how goes backwards in other areas. Which is an abuse of the story and characters. Which would cause illogical plot holes.
The gameâs narrative has problems, that I wholeheartedly agree with.
Itâs still one of the better explorations of these topics, especially in multiplayer games.
Oh, one big catch, which is kind of a key detail.
N95 masks with a plastic vent on them, donât do much.
Winston and Hammond are less about politics and more about ethics. As both were scientific experiments. But in Overwatch universe, no one would ask, if itâs ethical to experiment on gorillas, giving them human level of intelligence in process.
From what I see N95 masks werenât the only masks tested. The studies also reference other types of surgical masks.
So letâs start with the Jacobs study.
It had 32 participants. Which is pretty low for a medical study.
To date, six randomised controlled trials (Radonovich et al., 2019; Jacobs et al., 2009, Loeb et al., 2009, MacIntyre et al., 2011, MacIntyre et al., 2013, MacIntyre et al., 2015 ) have been conducted on the use of masks and/or respirators by healthcare workers in health care settings (Table 2 ). The healthcare worker trials (Table 2) used different interventions and different outcome measures, and one was in the outpatient setting. A Japanese study had only 32 subjects, and likely was underpowered to find any difference between masks and control (Jacobs et al., 2009).
Overwatch was founded by the UN in-universe. The parallel is intentional.
In most cases thus far, Overwatch had the opportunity to do something, but ran the risk of violating national sovereignty to do so. Given their quarantine of the Anubis project and the state thatâs left Egypt in, itâs entirely reasonable to place safeguards on their capabilities, even if it left them momentarily toothless in the wake of Antonio. Plus, after the Venice Incident, you discover hundreds of counts of violations and corruption (especially with Talon infiltration) and you pretty solidly realise that Overwatch (the old one) is not undeniably and uniformly the good guys.
Canon material built on story threads introduced within the first year of the gameâs release.
