So, ive been playing overwatch for years and in ow2 i really miss having a border to level up. I was thinking maybe add an account level section which can be leveled up for lifetime and this brings a border back depending on your account level. This would be separate from your battle pass level. I feel having that border to work on was something that brought excitement when you finally got that silver border after years of playing. I think it would be great in ow2

I’d have it come back with one of the two options or both:

Have it be something that can be part of customization, like icons & titles. Let people swap them out & earn them for completing different achievements.

Let people turn them on or off if they want to. That way, if someone is making fun of them for their border, they can turn it off & have it go back to the basic one.
No. Borders are just a bad additional way to feign some kind of progress, but they mean absolutely nothing. They’re hardly even cosmetic.
Despite Alexa’s protestations, there are not many ways of showing progression in a PvP game otherwise. Devs are gonna add a hero progression system which is great. But I’d like borders back too. All they need to do is disable borders in ranked matches to avoid toxicity. Just have everyone with a plain default border in ranked. As well as have the option to display your border if you want or not. Much like your name card.

I wish they brought them back but in a different way. I always wanted a silver border 
Borders were received from leveling up, which is progress.
To you, they might not.
And if they don’t mean anything to you, then you can either turn them off or keep with the basic option & others can change theirs.
Giving people the option doesn’t mean you have to change yours.
Give people the option to do so or allow people to customize theirs.
If they brought back borders maybe they could bring in new border styles through the battle pass aswell.

Borders were an awesome feature in the game, but over time some problems regarding them arose:
- They cause players mald when you see no border smurf players in your lobbies destroying the baseline game. With OW2 it still happens, but because there’s no visual to it the impact is different and less to a degree
- Not all players are good gamers that improve at a reasonable pace. Hence why someone who has diamond border due to playing in a friendly stack very casually does not mean that they’re necessarily good at the game. When that happens they get called out for their shortcomings which makes them feel bad
- Seeing generally large border differences, but no low leveled smurf accounts rather than actually bronze borders, you just again tilt for the visual side of it
I would personally love to have the borders since none of these are considerable issues in any capacity, but for a larger segment of players it does detract from their enjoyment of the game
Personally, I’d prefer if there was at least something earnable and unlockable by just playing the game without needing to purchase a BP.
My point exactly. It’s a second label showing time wasted on the game like the hours on their profile don’t already specify it.

Achievements.
Playing a certain map x number of times, getting x number of kills, saving x number of people…
You’re the one saying that, not me. I don’t think it’s a waste.

Having the border, in my opinion, gave players like me who dont really care for competitive something to grind and work on

The only progression allowed is Battle Pass. Please open your wallet and level up.
I dont mean you earn anything from the border i just mean its there to show how long you have played the game. It doesnt grant you anything cosmetic wise just shows ur overall level
Blizzard is very aware people want borders back. I have more faith now that we will possibly see them again.
Not as much as might think, as their not a sign of improvement. Just long-term commitment.
And yet people commonly used such in terms of bullying say the 3000 hour plus bronze player. Or vice versa with say a bronze border diamond player.
As they didn’t fit that simply minded mentality.
Which is why I said progress and not improvement.
I was in bronze.
I had a silver boarder & had bronze players on my team with platinum boarders.
I maybe had one or two things said to me, and I heard maybe one thing said about the other players.
This is to say I’ve heard more people saying it happens than I’ve actually seen it happen.
I miss the borders too.
I understand they wanted to hide them, but why not have the levels still go up in the background? I don’t need the world to see my progress. I just want to see it.
It feels rewarding when you put 1000’s of hours into the game, to see an overall progression outside of the seasonal progression.

people seem to forget that we as a collective are the reason these things are gone. “lol imagine being diamond border and being metal ranks” or " everyone else is on fire ur hot garbo" myself I never acted this way but enough people did that it warranted change. As sad as it is most of these changes are self inflicted through stupidity.
