The voice lines used by post OW1 heroes when leveling up during progression were clearly meant for cards. I donât know if this is because they were recorded when cards were still going to be a thing in OW2, or if itâs because the devs think they might reinstate cards. I hope itâs the latter, because I just miss a lot of the feel of OW1. OW2 feels âquickerâ and âflatterâ in comparison.
I mean it doesnât really matter in the end.
As most people stopped interacting with cards, as for the most part people already left the game and qued for the next round.
Itâs a system a large chunk of the community at least on PC just didnât use, and the only moments I found interesting out of it. Was when I got 100% kill participation on brig, and got a laugh out of the lobby.
Outside of that, their was no real purpose for them. And no real reason people wanted to interact with them.
Yes, letâs just remove all the fun because there is no point to it. There are so many features that your average player does not use and they are cluttering up the game. Itâs just dumb.
What is fun is subjective (typo). And like the fun part for me of voting on the cards listening to the little voice lines, and talking about the outcomes to the team. Kind of just stopped happening in a year or two in.
It was rare to see any card get two votes let alone pop up with enough to trigger the voice line.
Such as?
Not to be a grumpy old woman; however, it has become increasingly obvious to me that stripping a game down to its bare essentials just because x% of people do not utilize the function detracts from the entire experience. Promoting antisocial behavior is why we have so many rejects infesting this game.
And you are correct, itâs not as if Blizzard could stop this behavior. Itâs just the direction we are moving as a whole. Treating other people as if they are AI and moving on is definitely the norm.
I am surprised we even still have endorsements or profiles (even though that is a bit of a stretch) myself. Or the fact that we even have usernames. Thatâs weird when you think about it. It would just be more convenient to rename our profiles to whatever character we are currently playing. I suppose that will happen eventually.
I really feel as if advocating for what makes the corporation more money is backwards. I cannot believe real living, breathing people do it. And perhaps that is why everyone wants to just pretend we are playing with and against bots.
I just miss when people actually cared about the game. Itâs irrational. Itâs illogical. Of course it makes sense to just pump out more games and ignore all the charm. Why not?
???
It was far from being stripped to bare essentials. Like OW2 didnât just release just QP and comp now.
Part of the goal was to get people back into matches quicker, as most of the community would just leave the game as soon as they were allowed then hop back into the next one.
It wasnât Anti-social behavior as much as just wanting to get back into the gameplay loop. Instead of sitting in menuâs that would just delay the auto-reque.
Because those are features people still used, endorsments got reworked because people really didnât use them as the way they were designed. And mostly would give such out as like a three star rating system, more so then noting how well they communicated or lead the team.
Their werenât scrapping things for the sake of it, their were reasons for no longer supporting the features they got rid of or reworked.
The cards were rewarding, it took very little time to vote for someone and when you received many votes you had more energy to continue playing at the same level in the next match.
I understand that in the high competitive ranks it was not used, but the rest of the players did use that system.
The removal of cards was to combat post-game toxicity by just booting you back to the menu 2 seconds after play of the game instead of making you stick around for 30 more seconds to vote on something that was ultimately meaningless.
That being said, I miss end cards too. They were fun even if they were utterly pointless
I doubt removing cards was done on purpose. OW2 was rushed out the door once they saw pve was a failure and they effectively did nothing for all those years. They probably just didnât get around to it and then justified it after the fact.
Welp shame people started leaving games the moment the play of the game started, sliming the people that could actually voted to well below half the lobby and most of those people just those that stayed to watched the POTG.
Itâs a system most people stopped interacting with even in QP.
I miss cards because it opened up time for positivity after a match, where you could recognize another player. Now that short time is used for âgg ezâ or âtank diffâ in match chat. Just quick, snarky comments.
Especially on console, the whole social vibe of the game feels different now because, not only do we not have cards anymore, we didnât used to have text chat at all. The game feels sooo much more negative now. Post match time is used for negativity now.
They should indeed bring back cards but also mix them with some silly stats as a comic relief (the game clearly needs it with all the toxicity increasing ever since the game went F2P and 5v5 in late 2022).
Personally, I enjoyed the cards, short discussions/riffing about the match, and the ability to team up during the card/after-game screen. It also let one get a short breather mentally between matches.
Already evident by how the UI for Mercyâs beams no longer has either hers or the targets names on it. Which really bugs me as is hard to know who is speaking to me in voice when I just see a rediculously large hero portrait instead of their username.
I accept that is the design goal of OW2 âengagementâ, however it is confusing how they removed auto-requeue for anything except regular QP. Like how Yeti endscreen still says âseconds until next gameâ then just dumps you back to the arcade screen insteadâŠ
Also to point out without the cards and by extension extra time in lobby, the âstay as teamâ button appears for about 3 entire seconds now, further distancing us from any social aspect of this game (along with the removal of LFG).
Agreed
do you actually have a source for this as their reason for removing cards or are you just pulling this out of your proverbial donkey
Mostly just experience on pc and what I saw with streamers.
That and the OW team did want to speed up the down time between games.
IIRC theyâre literally the same voicelines from OW1
I never understood why they removed them in the first place. Plus, in the card screen you could have some banter with other players.
Add an OW TCG mode please
