Brigitte Gameplay Q&A with Geoff Goodman

Have you guys thought about adding a built-in LFG system into the game, or a competitive practice mode? Or any other things to improve competitive, other than tweaking match-making?

Currently competitive has been really frustrating to play. Often times it’s difficult to play the hero or role you want to play. Others have suggested a role queue, but that would likely remove some of the comp creativity, or invite people to abuse the system by not picking what they queued for.

I bring this up because I really want to play Brigitte in competitive because she fits my play-style very well. But when new heroes like this are popular, it’s often hard to gain experience on a hero like this in a competitive setting.

when brigittle release into comp, are you afraid of the pirate ship bastion even stronger now with Brigitte on attacking team? Orisa and rehin now Brigitte, Don’t we need a strong counter to it because Junkertown going to attacker favors with the pirate ship.

Is there any chance that you will change your mind and make Brigitte playable in comp early? Like 2 Weeks after release?
It will feel like an eternity otherwise… :frowning:

Ok ill ask about Mercy then. Hey Geoff what are the chances of making Mercy fun again? I was hoping you would try and test resurrect as an earned ability much like torbs armor or a mini ult I guess. Valk stays the same, just removing slow and cast time from res and making it earned would make her far better in my opinion and more balanced as well since res isnt really that well balanced on a cooldown.

We’re constantly thinking about both as we’re designing new heroes. That said, we generally start with ‘fun to play’ and work backwards to make sure a hero is fun to play against as well. A lot of the ‘fun to play against’ stuff comes from just making sure that a hero has reasonable counterplay. In Brigitte’s case, she can be frustrating to play against if she is constantly shield bashing you, but she has very limited range and can get shut down pretty hard by heroes like Pharah.

Will any characters die in the present timeline?

Why are you afraid to buff Ana when, assuming the meta would be a tank meta, she would’t even be strong in it compared to Lucio and Moira?
Why do you think Brigitte will cause a tank meta anyways? If Moira didn’t shift the meta, how would Brigitte?

Is there anything long term already in the pipeline, or are you focusing on balancing Brigitte and the other characters slated for buffs first?

Sombra buffs and then Mei buffs, it’s almost like you want people to hate themselves while playing the game. Hopefully with the buffs you’ll find a way to make her tolerable to play against.

How do you feel about Moira Geoff? is she going to be getting some changes in the near future?

Is Mei going to get also bug fixes alongside buffs? Like the fix to cryofreeze favoring shooter and projectile ultimates (blizzard included) disappearing if you die or get stunned? Will the wall aura be visible to teammates? The blizzard will be harder to escape from? Did the cryofreeze has been touched (like in Mei’s Yeti hung)? I try to wait as much as i can but curiosity is too strong

Are you planning on making more projectile based characters? Right now we have Junkrat with lobbing bombs in arc, Hanzo with his arrows and rest of the damaging projectiles (Genji shurikens, Mei icicle, Soldier rockets etc) have only travel time, they don’t arc in any way. I would be cool to have some more diverse attacks, like throwing anti-personnel mine, or character with arcing grenade ability (and maybe with option to cook it), or some kind of artillery weapon like arcing, huge damage, non-explosive bullet.

When does mercy new ultimate line is released ? tonight ? <3

with the added armour will burst damage characters be looked at so they dont lag behind because a big part of their character is countered by her armour ability?

Hi Geoff, amazing work on the game btw! Just wondering, there has always been a problem of having too many dps players in most matches (probably because most people think that is the most fun to play), is this a move towards freeing up a “spot” on the team so that you can have 3 dps instead of 2. By combining one healer and one tank into one character?

Does reaper even need a buff? He has above average win rate in all ranks in competitive and he doesn’t require that much skill to gain value. Another DPS requires a set amount of skill to get value and reaper don’t require that much skill yet he has a huge impact on games. Having reaper kill tanks within the span of 2 seconds doesn’t sound fun to play against. Don’t make another mercy patch I beg…

Geoff, if you all ever decide to do a melee hero it should work like the old backstab rogues.

Are you happy with pirate ship as it currently is?

The idea that the losing team, who for example might finish with 4 minutes less time than the better team, can simply go Bastion/Orisa/Rein/Mercy and sit on the payload all the way to the end to get a win, always leaves a bad taste in my mouth, even if it’s my team that gets the undeserved win with it.

It is slightly counterable, but only with very good coordination from a lot of people at the same time, and usually committing a lot of ultimates. Most of the time such a strategy guarantees you the first point, and sometimes all 3, because the defenders can’t really come close until they have gathered some ultimates to use.

Why wouldn’t you just play a ranged dive comp and completely eliminate her effectiveness by denying her ability to heal? Assuming she kicks Tracer out of the meta (which I doubt and picking her sacrifices Lucio and Zen), you could just counterpick her with Soldier, Pharah, and Widow and just kite her really hard.
Unless tank comps are suddenly insanely strong, I feel like the meta could shift to more diverse dive comps with Brigitte solidifying deathball in deathball-favored maps.
