BLM: remove the Brigitte and D.va Police Skin

The fact that this thread is still going is pretty blatant proof Blizzard has no idea what to do about this situation. This is wildly inappropriate for a gaming forum.

Those statutes were largely created in like the 60s as a response to the civil rights movement. Their entire purpose was to glorify the Confederacy and White Supremacy, and to intimidate black residents and would be residents. Most of them don’t serve any valid historical or educational purpose and better off as museum or private collection pieces, with museums actually having the ability to use them for proper education and not glorification.

Edit

Anyway, there isn’t really a reason to remove the police skins. Just ban the people using them to be racist.

I’m going to wear both skins just to spite you and everyone that agrees with you.

Ah yes, because that is the reason everyone wears these skins… right…

I live in the South (though I am not from here), I can tell you many, many predate the 60’s in fact the majority by far when I check the dates.

Regardless, you will see them so get used to it, I assure you all this is going to lead to a response for better or worse. You don’t get to decide what is a “valid” historical or educational purpose either to be frank. I know this is hard; but its not just about you. You want to define everything around one vision and concern in some cases, its just not that simple in life. I can assure you many people in the South do not equate a Southern heritage with just the Confederacy (though in and of itself, there is nothing wrong with that unless all you can do is think of slavery) or “White Supremacy”. That’s just a very one-sided view on the question. Should I demand the destruction of all Islamic temples as well considering it stands for Slavery today) in Africa as an example, in fact the single largest source of Black Slavery now?

By seeing your point I think Blizzard really should take out the skins and wait for that issue disappear (if it disappears). My best friend by far is black, a bunch of people I’m friend with are black. I love them, and see the fear and traumas they suffer is so bad. I feels sorry for you

Please take your meds.

You’re right it was the Jim Crow movement not the Civil Rights movement. That’s my mistake. I was thinking they largely got built near the 60s but it was actually them ending up in the 50s.

https://www.history.com/news/how-the-u-s-got-so-many-confederate-monuments

And yes their purpose was white Supremacy and to glorify the Confederacy.

That a lot of people don’t understand that and think they mean something else is proof that they have little value as educational and historical tools

The largest cause of the Civil War was the preservation of slavery, as stated in the secession documents themselves. Which is why white supremacists in the Jim Crow era and during the civil rights era (and again I got these two confused, my mistake) took to spreading their symbols and glorifying it’s leaders.

Remember that there are kids that think dark jokes are funny. I think everyone goes through that phase at some point.

Also I feel bad for anybody talking about politics in video-game forums. Yall are literally strangers, and you think you can force each other with your ideals? You’re probably arguing with someone who believes more in YouTube conspiracy videos than you. (You can’t even cite sources on these forums either).

The whole fps genre is a glorification of gun violence. And it’s a damn fun genre too. If you can’t divorce yourself from reality to any degree than video games might be a bad hobby for you. That said not being able to divorce gaming from reality might actually be helpful. After all if need something cathartic you can play GTA and rack up 6 stars a few dozen times.

Gonna call doubts on you being subject to police violence though. Just the way you phrased it sounds so childish and random. Like it’s exactly the kinda story people make when they are trying to get a particular result out of a company. No details, sounds childish, and then say you get basically PTSD from seeing DVA as a cop. But somehow you forgot about Riot Brig even though apparently you’re having panic attacks when you see police skins in game. Idk you just come off across more as a 13 year old looking for some easy attention than a legitimate appeal. But either way the appeal is dumb. If the skin was for an American cop ()8)3 say Soldier or McCree especially) than maayyyybe you’d have a tiny bit of leg to stand on. But you’re gonna say two female cops Korean and Swedish need to be removed because of police brutality in the US? If you’re feeling that strongly surely you have a dozen things you can do with the potential to be somewhat impactful rather than just stir up a bunch of crap on the forums and fuel resentment for people who liked those characters and skins. I can give you a list of stuff to support the movement in a healthy sensible way if you like :upside_down_face:

you clearly don’t have an IQ above room temperature

they tore down statues of people who fought in the civil war. It isn’t about slavery my friend, its about them destroying our country and being idiots

What lol no thats BS
Do we erase white characters too? Jesus the heck

Fought in the civil war against the United States, because they wanted to enslave other Americans

Logic has no place in socially significant discussions.

can we remove black people from the line up, since most of the deaths are from black gangs over drugs etc, once in a while we have a white on black death, whole countries turn feral as a way to get other non issues across, white on white killings and no one gives 2 hoots.

mmmmm someone thinks there are no double standards as its just race related, i am yet to see a riot over black gang members killing innocent black people because they got in the way.

If America wasn’t so inflexible when it comes to change, racist police wouldn’t be a problem. Tearing down statues, demanding the police be abolished, etc. None of that is going to solve the problem.

Police in America are allowed to be racist because America allows racism.

Actually I think that stuff will help a lot.

Tearing down the statues is basically us admitting, together, the confederates were villains. They don’t deserve to be celebrated! They were the baddies, and while they should be remembered, you don’t get freaking STATUES being the baddies. Those guys were traitors and slavers, and their statues should lie with their corpses, IN THE GROUND.

Nobody wants to abolish the police and not put up anything in their place. Those guys want to create new law enforcement agencies. In places where this happened, it wasn’t terrible. Firing all the cops and hiring new cops is a valid option. It’s worth considering for truly toxic, terrible departments. Most should be fixed, but yeah, some places need to start over.
