So let’s get this straight. Tracer mains get a nerf back somewhere near season 5 due to a “bug” issue reducing her damage output from 6 to 5.5. She was pretty much unplayable due to the Hog and Sombra reworks, IMO. Then near season 8 she was given a “buff” bringing her damage output back to 6 DPS. At this point she was pretty good again. Then season 9 rolls around giving every single hero, most who didn’t need it, a buff. Hit boxes were enlarged, projectiles were enlarged, healing passives, damage reduction brought down 20%, etc… At this point Tracer was pretty good. I still thought she sucked against the Moria’s, Kiriko’s, Sorjourn’s, Ashe’s, 76’s and Hanzo’s of the game but she wasn’t bad. My point is the Devs give Tracer a hot fix a week later and again IMO, brought her in game playability back to that season 5 nerf where she wasn’t playable. I know she was knocked back a few meters with damage falloff but that’s a huge difference in this meta. I feel like Tracer is always getting nerfed more than any other hero. With these huge projectiles, so many more hero’s can counter her. If a player is new to Overwatch, they’ll never want to play as Tracer if she’s easily countered and isn’t of durability or value to a team.
Tracer is probably the most impactful DPS right now. Being able to apply the DPS passive at any range means she can take safe off angles and spray whoever the tank engages on.
As for meta, she is the number 1 DPS pick.
She’s probably impactful in higher ranks but I just don’t see it anything below Plat. Do you know specifically in what rank level you’re referencing? I can’t see her being no. 1 pick in all ranks.
Except she is most picked dps in most ranks. Utterly dominating the top500. Tracer mains are eating well.
T500 she is the go to.
In my tank games in diamond/master, she is in nearly every game.
In my support games in gold, she’s less common.
It is more because of skill issues when she isn’t played. The DPS passive was basically a massive buff to her as it enabled her to be constantly relevant in fights.
Of course in top500 she’ll do well but this game shouldn’t revolve around top500.
It also shouldnt revolve around bronze.
Tracer is basically a must-pick rn… 
Here’s the thing about Tracer. She can do well at pretty much every rank, assuming the player is skilled enough.
It is the best place to figure out who’s strong. Because they will just stick to what is strong, and what gets them wins.
But this is the thing with lower ranks in season 9. People don’t exploit the patch. I guarantee you, a 5 stack of gold players, will climb if they just played JQ, Tracer, Echo, Moira, Lucio.
Just stuck to doing a few basic rotations and plays, and you’ll easily push them towards diamond.
Replace moira with zen, and that is certainly true.
Tracer comes in 6th behind Sorjourn, 76, Ashe, Sombra, Bastion for Bronze for the month of February.
6th out of 17, oh how unplayable she is.
Welp she’s not in top 5 and you said she was top pick for Bronze.
I said 2 distinct things this thread, neither of which was that.
- Most ranks.
- We shouldnt care about bronze.
It should matter in this game. Unfortunately it’s Top500 the devs care about.
Go play Rein for a month at diamond or above and get some perspective on what unplayable means
Just because you use blinks randomly and all in on the backline with no recall and get rolled doesn’t mean Tracer is unplayable
It is the pro scene blizzard cares about, they want that esport money.
Bronze players dont even play the game correctly, you cant balance around that.
I use blinks to my advantage. It’s just a lot harder now to counter a hero with less falloff. Harder to melee too. Kiriko’s, Hanzo’s and especially 76’s can melt a Tracer because they have zero damage falloff. I’m just saying reducing her Damage falloff 2 meters makes a difference IMO.
I’m also convinced the Devs don’t even play their own game.
Imagine your hero being so spoiled that you still complain about them when they’re the best dps in the game.
She needs significant nerfs.
