Alot of times people unintentionally disconnect for like a few minute then have no incentive to rejoin because they lose SR no matter what. Maybe change it so that if they rejoin and win they get half of the SR they would have gotten.
Anyone can rejoin if at least one minute of game time passes, but they only have two minutes to safely rejoin without getting penalized. It is important to explain that these times are so restrictive because it comes down to the fact that being absent from a Competitive match for any amount of time is a HUGE detriment to your team.
- The match cancels if there is a leaver in the pre-game setup or during the first minute of the match (from the time the attacking spawn doors open) and the leaver is penalized automatically. This is because there is a strong likelyhood the match will quickly fall out of control for the team with the leaver and not too much time has been invested on either side.
- After a minute, the match does not cancel, this is because it is more fair for both teams to let the match play out and helps prevent any incentive to bully a person out of the game.
- As I said, 2 minutes is not a lot of time to rejoin, but that is an eternity to try to play the game 5 versus 6. After 2 minutes, players have the right to leave the match without getting suspended (they will still take the loss and SR reduction) and queue up for a new match.
Finally, it is important to remember, if you are having technical issues with Overwatch, do not play Competitive Play. Yes there are many times a player can have a sudden and unexpected issue, but that is why the suspension starts only at 10 minutes and the 50 SR loss is easily recovered in games later played (as the penalty does NOT affect your hidden matchmaker rating). As a reminder to everyone, if you do have technical issues, forum MVPs like myself and Blizzard Technical Support is available in the technical support forum.
They really need to work on their stability. I’m still freezing up hard if I don’t use a renamed executable file, which is pretty ridiculous.
The game used to be more stable but it went downhill about six months ago.
Are you talking about “Rendering Device Lost”? I assume then you are not using a RTX Graphics Card correct?
No. I am using an RTX card. I think it is rendering device lost but it’s really hard to get through to the error message because the error kind of breaks the computer and I usually have to reboot as I can’t force OW closed by any means.
Sorry I misread your post. You are having to use the executable rename workaround. Understand this issue is still an ongoing investigation between Blizzard and NVidia. I am sure you have seen the massive thread in the tech support forum. Remember this is something weird with the RTX drivers that NVidia has to help on. AMD has a similar problem with all of their graphic cards and that took nine months to resolve.
Nvidia must be slacking off on this one. It seems extremely easy to fix for them - just stop detecting if the user is running Overwatch at all.
That being said it would be nice if Blizzard just renamed the executable officially in a patch.
Ugh… I will be getting a PC with an RTX in a couple weeks, is it a very common issue or just sometimes?
I have to do it- b-b-but the reason we have six teamates from five in beta was so losing a player wouldn’t be detrimental uh hooooy dooooyyyy.
In all seriousness; who can actually re join in 2 mins realistically? If you drop out of the server surely that’s on blizz and you shouldn’t have the threat of punishment looming over you because it wasn’t you leaving or your isp going down.
Me personally, I’ve never been able to get my router reset and back online in less than 6-10 mins.
Is it possible to differentiate between DC and purposefully leaving the match? I’m guessing if they work on the penalty it’ll also help leavers.
Also, if a player knows they have technically problems; they shouldn’t play comp until it’s fixed.
probably…but then people who just want to leave will just close down the app, and there is NO WAY to tell if the app was closed on purpose or not, and if that purpose was related to the game
Yeah, the system will be abused if blizzard decides to switch it up. I don’t mind the current penalty system.
I mean, honestly…if you are constantly having issues…why would you want to continue to play
I have had this problem as well. I never DC’d until the last 3 months I have had about 4 dc’s and when I would reboot I was met with a message on the blizz client that they were having issues.
Kind of sad they can have a pro Esport but a clunky mess of servers.
By the time you lost connection and realized you lost connection it’s about 30 seconds. Restarting a router takes 2-3 min and rejoining 1-4 minutes depending if you have to log in again or when you press “rejoin” it bugs and you have to restart the game. When you are finally able to rejoin the game has already ended.
All we ask for is to not get penalized 50sr if we rejoin after 2 minutes and win the game.
It is possible to tell the difference if a player clicks leave game or has a disconnection, BUT it is NOT possible to tell the difference from a true disconnection and someone doing this:
Because of this, the penalty is the same regardless of how you left the game (whether it was intentional or not).
We can build rockets but we can’t do this. I’m done with this world.
Can’t do what? Tell the difference between manually disconnecting a true disconnection? This really comes down to a matter of physical electrical science. If something doesn’t have power, it will not work.
I think it affects everyone with an RTX. Just rename your executable to literally anything but Overwatch.exe.
Roooooockets. We’ve cloned animals ffs. Can’t convince me there isn’t a way.
