I see nothing wrong with it.
They have no answer weâd like to hear. As usual they wouldnât answer something that would make them look bad. Iâm actually glad someone didnât sugar coat to them.
I asked immediately about Bastion abilities and didnât get a response.
The /r/Overwatch subreddit just recently hit 3 million subscribers. The AMA on there today was a way to celebrate that achievement and is only the seconds AMA on that platform in Overwatchâs history (the first was in March 2017 and only had Jeff Kaplan participating) The development team does monitor and respond to threads on the forums, r/Overwatch, r/CompetitiveOverwatch, and r/OWconsole. They have responded to the forums the most.
What an indirect way to say âI donât wanna tell you.â
Ironic, you say that they donât want to answer to something thatâll make them look bad, yet here you are, refusing to answer usâŚ
Then itâs really odd that we have to get information on future gameplay changes from Discord screenshots.
I was reluctant to post the link to my question on the subreddit thread because I didnât want anybody to feel I was fishing for likes or something. Initially when I made this post here on the forums I did not think it was imperative to share the exact question because the whole reason I made this post was to get some kind of better idea as to why my question was seemingly ignored, intentionally or not. I didnât think the specific question was needed here.
And, I have since posted a link to it above.
Gonna be honest and say that if youâre at all familiar with AMAs you shouldnât have expected an answer to such a long comment in the first place. AMA answers arenât just for the person asking the question, itâs for the entire community to read and, frankly speaking, not everyone wants to read an essay. Especially not when most of it is a personal rant.
Itâs better to communicate your question in a way that is brief and easily digestible.
As to the actual content of your question you basically said âwhy do you purposely ignore us and not consider our feedback?â with more words and, my friend, this is really just not the way.
Ignoring whether I actually agree with you or not, if your goal was to get any kind of response your question would have been better asked with this language:
âDoes the dev team have any struggles when it comes to addressing community concerns? Does the team have any plans for better gathering community feedback or addressing community concerns in the future?â
Or something similar.
The entitlement of you to expect your specific question to be answered in a sea of questions. Most probably not answered. That entitlement right there is what helps give these forums a bad reputation
This dude submitted a 577 word essay and he doesnât know why his question was ignored. Lol.
Iâm not exaggerating. Thatâs the exact word count. Ainât nobody got time fo dat. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Ok well the thing is there is no answer. Youâre not satisfied with how they listen? Ok. Well guess they do though.
What are you expecting? That question is very accosting. What are they gonna say? âA lot of community ideas, we think, are stupid so we ignore themâ ? Theyâre not going to answer that.
Theyâre giving their answer by not taking into account every balance change by the community. They think a lot of the ideas are bad. Simple. Itâs not a big deal or controversial. I mean Iâll use Sym as an exampleâŚ
Sym mains constantly complain about how blizzard doesnât care about her and that they donât listen yet she is the only character to receive THREE REWORKS. One was an objective buff and the other was a near complete redesign. They do listen and they are trying but their philosophy just doesnât agree with the fans all the time.
âWe, the community, have a choice to play this game or not. Many people have left because of decisions that are made by your team, or lack thereof. Considering this, why does your team continue to blatantly ignore the community and our thoughts, ideas, and concerns? I am trying to be as respectful as possible here, but sometimes things just need to be asked bluntly. This issue mystifies me, and I am constantly left bewildered by the apparent lack of acknowledgement and inclusion of the community. Other games do it. Why canât Overwatch?â - You
"well there are about 200 pros and 50 million casuals⌠but we both know youâre not asking for that percentage breakdown =]
we listen to everyoneâs feedback. itâs all important. when it comes to balance, we primarily balance the game around owl, gm/masters." - Jeff Kaplan
Your question got answered on someone elseâs question
said this⌠they ignored it. They donât want an answer, they want a âgotchaâ.
people like short questions actually esp in ama, thye would rather answer 10 short qs than spend 10 mins on 1 huge one.
Not everybody is quick and to the point. I figured my question and concern would be easier understood if there was some explanation behind it. Just because something is verbose, does not mean it should just be disregarded and ignored. I saw questions that were almost just as long. They got responses. So clearly, length doesnât really matter here.
And the same argument could be made about your comment just now. You felt like it would help your point to make it wordy and 13 lines long. Sure, itâs quite a bit less than mine, but even that could have been summed up to a sentence or two if we are being nit-picky.
Length =/= poor quality. We need to stop being so lazy and take the time to read what people have to say. Or, skim through it. Go straight to the part that says Question and ignore the rest. There is a reason why I sectioned it off and used bolds. Itâs so you could easily identify where the question was, and where the extras were.
Oh sorry I expected a response in a AMA session. My fault. The point of an AMA session is to answer questions given by the community. Why even post a question if you donât expect a response?
Please visit another length response written by me above. Stop being lazy? Oh and nice attempt to cut me down with your tool in the shed line. Maybe be originalâŚor how about just not even try to be disrespectful?
Exactly the problem. Sym mains complain because Sym is not in a good place. If at first you donât succeed, try try again. Or, just throw in the towel and have an ineffective character. Works okay for Bastion, right? And itâs perfectly okay to disregard ideas. But there just isnât any attempt including any community ideas. No contests, no use of a subreddit for âhighest rated concept winsâ, nothing. And, this still does not answer the question of why do some characters get overly buffed while there are characters who just completely suck and have for several seasons.
No, actually I was hoping for an actually thought out response like others got. But hey, at least the question about Torbâs favorite food was answered.
Then they should have said something along the lines of âPosts above X characters will probably be ignoredâ. If they did and I missed that, then Iâll go ahead and flag this post for deletion.
Theyâre not putting up contests because they donât WANT to have the community balance heroes. Lol. Theyâll hear us out but theyâre not going to shoehorn in a community balance for its own sake.
As for the hero imbalance, theyâre trying. They made certain heroes situational but I think theyâre trying to make them less. Although I still think they want some heroes to be more situational than others. Itâs just how they balanced the game and how their balance philosophy goes. Itâs been that way since itâs inception.
Youâre angry because theyâre not bending to the will of the community, not because theyâre not listening.
You mean like where they answered your question except someone else asked it without a loaded back end?
What did you want them to say?
âWe listen⌠but these suggestions are bad, and these donât match with our goals , and these require too much workâ
They do listen and if youâve played the game for a while you notice that player concerns DO get addressed⌠just not ALL of them because thatâs pretty impossible.
Well known examples:
People hate how the lootboxes originally worked, it got changed and credits were introduced to allow progression toward desired items
People hate how mass res worked (THIS IS NOT AN INVITATION FOR DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS THINGS BALANCE) and they REMOVED it.
People complained about torb/sym/brig and all of them got reworked.
These were all from community feedback.
What? You seriously expect them to be so antagonistic? Theyâre playing pr. Of course they wonât shoo people like that. What youâre asking is impossible
Geoff Goodman said 4 times today that heâs considering reworking Symmetra into a support again after all of the community feedback suggesting it.
They are listening, they just donât often reply.
You canât be serious. Do you really think you were the only person who had a question that wasnât answered? Do you have any idea how many questions were asked? Get over it. I cannot believe how uneducated kids are these days what are your teachers doing?
