Is OW3 coming ? New IP ?
Associate Design Director, Innovation - Unannounced Game
Job Description:
At Blizzard, we craft genre-defining games and legendary worlds for all to share. Through unparalleled creativity and storytelling, we create immersive universes and iconic characters that are beloved across platforms, borders, backgrounds, and generations - only made possible by building a work environment that nurtures the artistry of game development and unleashes the aspirations of our people.
As the Design Director of Innovation, you will be the vision holder and owner of key strategic innovations on an upcoming open-world shooter game. You stay current with the latest developments in both the indie and AAA space. David Bowie is quoted as saying “Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting”–the idea of innovating in the deep end excites you, balanced with a pragmatic desire to turn dreams into reality that players can get their hands on and enjoy.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio for this position is Irvine, CA.
I can’t include links but it’s on the Blizzard CAREERS website.

Even if it ISN’T a related IP: this is very exciting and actually good news for Blizzard as a whole.
This means they’re moving forwards and hiring new blood. It isn’t layoffs or bad news. Fingers crossed for them.

It’s interesting and all, and I hope I don’t sound like a jerk when I say this, but I can’t say I’m anything except very mildly curious. It’s a very long journey from concept to release. Remember, Blizzard were also looking to develop a survival game as a new IP and that got canned.

Too early to assume that it’s related to Overwatch. But definitely interesting that they’re in the hiring phase. If anything comes of this project though we won’t hear about it for a long time.

How in the god damn hell would you think an Open-world shooter is related to overwatch. How would you even make a game like that
Yay, another game for them to ruin with Monetization’s and re hashed/redone skins of other manga/games because we’re morally and creatively brankrupt. Wooooooo.
Would put too many eggs in the basket. Blizzard has hired a LOT of people for a LOT of big AAA games that ultimately got canned and went no where.
Over a dozen big games that went nowhere.

After what came to light in 2021, work for Blizzard would be a pass for most devs, there are (way) better indie studios to work…
Isn’t Jeff known for that David bowie quote
Sounds interesting…
Maybe its related to Overwatch Mobile?
I could total see an Open-World Omnic-infested Overwatch spin-off. One of my favorite games is Just Cause 2. If Blizzard made a game like that, Id be very into it!
It’s hard to get excited about the release of almost any AAA company, especially one in a saturated genre like “Open-World Shooter”.
Artisanal game making in the AAA sphere is practically dead and this title is (likely) going to just be another skinner box designed first and foremost to “Foster Recurrent User Engagement”; assuming it even makes it to market.
Beware girls, they can´t provide a safe space for female workers…
“Everything that you wanted I have done. You asked that the child be taken. I took him. You cowered before me, I was frightening. I have reordered time. I have turned the world upside down, and I have done it all for you! I am exhausted from living up to your expectations. Isn’t that generous?” ~ Jeff

Good on them, but I think they should consider opening up offices either in Denver or Des Moines, Omaha or where some of the Tech companies are going such as Fargo ND or Kansas City MO. Maybe Oklahoma or even Dallas.
Irvine (or all of California for that matter) isn’t affordable to live in if you want to pay people sub-prime wages.

This could also be for the new StarCraft shooter that has been in the news. An Open-World Shooter adapted from the RTS-format of StarCraft seems like a logical creative direction ![:white_check_mark: :white_check_mark:](https://d1mldsz5gr8kpv.cloudfront.net/en/overwatch/images/emoji/twitter/white_check_mark.png?v=12)

I read that the speculation is StarCraft, because Jason Schreier said they were working on a SC shooter still.

The OW team seems to do well with this. It has a higher percentage of female devs than I think you’re likely to find most places.
Probably a new battle royale…7 years too late
They cancelled their last project,so I don’t have high hopes at all.
Would be cool if it was Overwatch related, but this time the team better be 100% separate.
