Based on some feedback: Mercy

Oky so I recently did a bit of a survey in the forums asking the people who enjoy the current Mercy build why they enjoy it.
That thread is now lost in the mega thread so sadly I can’t just link it. Out of the 20 or so replies however there were three main answers I got

  1. People who enjoy the base kit of beams and Guardian Angel and in particular the bunny hope, the movement is still the most fun part. This answer usually went hand in hand with a comment about how they didn’t enjoy Valk and/or rez but tolerated them.
  2. Battle Mercy during Valk is awesome: This is an answer I got and while it’s very clear that the lost healing for what is really just average damage can’t be considered the ideal use of the ultimate there’s no denying it’s fun to take on the pharah or fly up to that widow being painful to the team
  3. Shot calling tool: a few purely competitive minded people mentioned how it’s excellent for getting a read on enemy positions and all the good stuff needed to make valueable calls.

So with all the gripes going around in the Mercy thread about an unimpactful ultimate and a very jarring experience in Rez we know what some people think is successful in this rework and thus I’d like to present my idea to help.

  1. Reduce the duration
    Even people who like the current build say the ult overstays it’s welcome, this solves two problems, it gets the people who love the base form movement more then Valk more time in base AND it gives us the opprtunity to rebuff the ult in other ways to give it more bang.
  2. We let Mercy Dual Wield
    Put simply she’ll dual wield the staff and the pistol, you can let her swap the beam by taggling it or since we need to buff it anyway just merge the healing and damage beams, as we do this she’s got the infinite ammo pistol connect to one of her buttons.
  3. We rework rez
    Now I’m not against the idea of getting rid of it at this point but I know even blizz thinks it’s salvagable, so I think this ability has to either A be tied to Valkyrie (a one time single target rez that’s instant cast) or B it has to be a mini ultimate in and of itself with something similar to scrap, maybe collecting energy from soul orbs or maybe she grabs energy by damage boosting to create more incentive to damage boost. Something, just anything that brings down the number of rezes happening so we can balance it without building counterplay right into it.

These are the three fixes I think would help everyone in Mercy’s community, made specifically to not anger the crowd that likes the current build. Quite the opposite in fact

Disclaimer: No I do not think resources should be taken from the F-tier heroes to impliment this I’m making this in hopes someone on the dev team is willing to take it up as a passion project or something else.
So if you feel the need to chime in with “she’s fine” then just move along no need to waste your time on my ideas

Have you actually tried? It’s usually as simple as cross-quoting.

It’s not so much that as it is the thread was made a while ago and I don’t have the half hour it would take to actually read through it all to find mine.
Plus the thread would have gotten mixxed up with everything else if I’m not mistaken.

You could search posts you made.

For a second I thought Mercy was gonna pull out some dual pistols and go to town. Dreams crushed yet again.

I’ve been suggesting this for the longest time. She needs a reason to actively use damage boost and the pistol more. In Uprising she uses her full kit far more often and has to tactically cycle between all of it whereas she feels like 2/3rds of a character in the rest of the game where brainlessly holding leftclick around a corner is simply the optimal thing to do.

Incidentally this is the first time I’ve ranted about it while Uprising is in effect- I encourage everyone to try it, especially if you normally find both versions of Mercy to be boring.

Bizarrely your starting post is the only thing that will be left behind and not be added the abyss.

Believe me, I’e made more then my fair share of rants about how bad rez is designed in this iteration. Honestly the whole rework debachle reaks of “rushed content” given how little testing they did to indicate whether or not it was OP.

Indeed, while I myself can’t be bothered to touch Valk Mercy any moe It’s a good idea to take a look at how she plays in Uprising to get a feel for how she should be designed to pay.
I think one bonus tomass rez that I think is lost on the current Valk is the risk factor. What I mean by this is that there were a lot of Mercy Players who’d take their chances and get riskier, chasing after the flanker sometimes or pulling out the pistol to get that charge as fast as possible.
Some of the most epic moments I’ve had in this game was when I’m 1v desperately pistolling my way to my last 10 percent of rez

Just make the mercy’s ultimate resurrect and give her an another E ability.
It’s not going to be completely unbalanced, bring her back to relevancy, and almost-have the feel of the 1.0 mercy.
