We know that you’ll be able to unlock new heroes for free through the battle pass— that’s it. We don’t know how long it’ll take or anything, so why are we getting upset over something that we have no information about?
Also, everyone is saying “oh what if you need the new hero in comp because it’s so op?”. Like, we don’t know if you can even pay to unlock it faster. So, as far as we know right now, everyone will have the same amount of time to unlock the hero, and they’re not going to lock any of the previous heroes. The game is F2P and anything that directly affects gameplay, like new heroes, is going to be free. Are we mad that we have to play Overwatch in order to unlock things in OW? Wouldn’t you be doing that already?
You can be upset, that’s fine, but the sky is not falling. Take a step back with me, remember that this entire game is pixels on a screen and does not impact you once you exit the game (for 99% of people, content creators and pro players have it different). If you’re gonna voice your concerns, remember that devs are real people so please don’t attack them. It’s easier to accept criticism if you say what you do/don’t like and why you feel that way, instead of going “YOU ARE THE WORST I HOPE YOU GET FIRED THE GAME IS DEAD”.

We’re talking about Blizzard, so just imagine the most predatory BS possible and there’s a good chance that is the reality

Well, that’s typically what happens between when people get a leak, and before the official announcement.

When people have incomplete information, they tend to fill in the blanks themselves. I don’t like the idea of unlocking heroes but it depends on how long the grind is. I’m inclined to think it’s going to be longer rather than shorter, because otherwise there we be no point in incentivizing people to buy a Premium BP for instant access.
Yes we do? That’s already been confirmed.

People were mad about Diablo Immortal at Blizzcon. Without the full story turns out they were right.
This is not gamers first rodeo with Blizzard and other bad gaming practices.
There’s not much need for story since the devs are sticking their head in the sand again when it comes to communication.
It is what it is. If you think there’s some redemption arc happy ending just around the corner then you haven’t been paying attention to what this company has been doing to multiple games.

Lemme ask you, you can pay $20 to get access to the next patch early, how many hours of early access would make it worth it?
2? 20? 100?
That’s what basically is happening. I don’t see people shelling money over anything less than bypassing a 20 hour grind. If she’s easy to unlock very few will opt to pay instead. The people calling it a 5 match, two hour grind are ignoring that Blizz wants you to want to pay them.
I’d say it’s near delusional to expect her to take less than a week of (semi-)casual play to unlock. I’d honestly expect hero unlocks to take about half a BP period for your average player.

We really don’t though because until we get an official demonstration on how the battle pass works then we can’t know for certain if you can unlock it faster. You probably can with the way the deleted post was worded, but we cannot know for certain. Even if we do, we don’t how much longer it’ll take compared to the free track
I do agree that the overreactiong is real. I mean a lot of peoples are calling to move to Gundam Evolution where no less than three heroes are locked trought the battlepass. (Look, Blizz business practice are bad, move to Bandai Namco which is actually worse now )
But the reason is bad PR. No news, broken promises, sneaky change of content you will have in things you already buy, PR is a mess and they do nothing to fix it.
We should have news already but they will be in meeting all day long with their investors so…
The fact is that we do not know how long it’ll take, so I don’t know why people are reacting as if Jon Spector said it’d take 4 months to unlock the hero. I just don’t see the point in getting upset over something that isn’t known and acting like it’s fact
I mean, even if it takes a week that’s over the top and a bad decision for the nature of this game. There should be no gatekeeping. I guess the degree of how upset I’ll be will be confirmed later, but I think the outrage is pretty justified.
Some people are touting stuff as fact without a way to back it up, sure, but the concern is certainly justified, and I don’t think it’s worth it to split hairs.

I do agree with that, I feel like their PR is awful and might be why people react the way that they do, especially since we’re in the dark about so much.
don’t care. even if it was just one match to unlock the new hero, that would be one match too many.
I mean, overwatch wants to be sooooo competitive with their owl and stuff, but introduce something like that? there is then a chance that one team cannot choose the latest hero, so the other team has an advantage. doesn’t work at all

We know there will be grind, we know people can pay to bypass the grind, ergo we can estimate the pay will be to most people preferable to the grind.
That’s why I asked how many hours of exclusivity $20 is worth to you.
Obviously the price could be far lower, and thus the grind, but the fact remains the buy now is designed to appeal to more people than the grind so they sell more Premium passes. This is like basic mobile game tier stuff, c’mon.
Don’t get me started.
Don’t even try to defend them this time, they messed up BIG time.
Even the most loyal people who always defend Blizzard’s mistakes are having none of it this time.
This time, they for real done messed up.

Its the national sport nowadays, pick 1 bit of info, exaggerate it to an unreasonable level, turn it into a book and get mad about it.

They have 34 heroes that you can play without paying. Yes, it won’t be the shiny new hero, but it’s not like you won’t have anything to play if you need to counterpick. It’s F2P, what did people expect?
People expected to pay 30$ and have infinite balance changes and infinite content until the end of times
Yes, but we literally do not know how the battle pass system works. Like, we have no official announcements about it besides a deleted post, and this is just referring to Season One. It’s likely that you can unlock it faster by paying, but again, we do not know for sure how the battle pass system works.
People also paid $40 of OW1 so of course all the heroes would be free, but OW2 is F2P so what are people expecting? OW2 is a different game, as much as people would like to say that it’s the same as OW1
