Anyone Know any Good Classical Music?

I used to be in the same boat, until I learnt the difference between baroque and classical. Nowadays I just simply refer to certain compositions as “classical style” and the like if it embodies a similar tone and feeling to music coming from that period.

I think there are a few snobs out there who look down upon score composers. They’re the ones missing out though.

Pfff next you’re going to tell me there are people who dislike Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman too.

No problem.

Maybe this is something for you too?

Howard Shore’s work on The Game was masterful. Really underappreciated movie and score.

What’s the difference? I am immediately interested in anything called “Baroque”
(Big One Piece fan)

I am essentially the opposite of that.

And there’s the other guy my sister won’t stop about.

I should just look up Germanic Classical at this point. So much march music.

Who knew that many of us who frequent these forums were (closet?) orchestra fans!

To be honest I wasn’t expecting this thread to blow up either, and there is A LOT of good music in here!

I mean, I’m a LotR superfan so… you can guess which are my favorites.

Btw, Gladiator is my favorite I think from Hans Zimmer, “We are free” is just sooo good!

I’ve now veered off listening to movie scores instead… I wonder where I will end up before I go to bed? Punk rock? :joy:

You already linked many of the ones I wanted to share.
The current “classical music” has been reborn into video-game music.

I wonder if that’s why Sigma likes it?

It literally begins with the time period. The baroque period began in the early 17th century. Classical music was largely composed between the mid-1700s (around the time the baroque period ended) and the early 1800s.

Baroque music and art style is characterized by grand, flourishing features with bouts of intensity (cannonfire anyone?) and lots of contrast. Just listen to how various baroque pieces begin one way and then switch it up a few minutes into the composition! The piece may even switch back to the previous style or take on an entirely new form a few more minutes later. The music is very complex and has a more serious tone.

With classical music, there is even more variety and contrast within the piece, but the tone is usually much lighter when compared to baroque music and the music itself is more simple. There is less emphasis on big bass and brass and more wind and strings. In my mind, classical music evokes nearly a carefree spiritual vibe while baroque music will instill intense, tough, grim vibes and a fuller sense of the music enveloping me. Not so much like the music is weighing me down, but baroque music feels like walking through a thick fog while classical music feels more like a brisk breeze.

I started building a playlist of classical music a few weeks ago. I only have like 4 so far lol. You’ll need more pieces from others if you want the list to last longer than a dps queue.

Mariage D’amour
Gymnopedie No. 1
Fur Elise
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
