Anyone else had a string of massive dps diffs?

i don’t keep up to date on patch notes, did they nerf bastion and now threes just a bunch of boosted dps players or have I just gotten unlucky?
even when I win i could be afk and the result wouldn’t change

When you play support, it feels like the rest are 1-2 ranks below. I don’t just mean me. But if you watch the matches back, it’s always the supports on both sides who are making sensible decisions, know where their team is, and know when to fall back. In contrast the tanks are usually 50/50, sometimes they’re on the same level and you usually win easily, sometimes they’re dumb and you lose. The DPS just feed constantly, die on their own and blame the “healers”.

Yea im going like 8-20 right now on wins-losses and the DPS and Tank diffs have been astronomically bad. Not grouping, trickling, killing nothing even with a pocket. Meanwhile enemy team is just destroying us every single game. Im also noticing a lot of smerf accounts on both sides except the enemy always seems to get the level 5 Hanzo that goes 32-3 and i get the level 8 Solider that goes 2-18. Like by no means do I think im some kinda godly support player but good lord some of these teams im matched with are just questionable

Update: Perfect example of what im talking about. I gave up half way through this match because it was blatantly obvious we were not going to be winning this. What also confirmed this was the enemy team pointing out that our tank is a known thrower and has been throwing games for 2 days in a row. So I love that the game takes this thrower and puts them on my team even tho its stats should be wrecked so thats cool. So not only were we down a tank, our dps also did not know how to work together to try and make something happen they’d constantly scatter or go in solo. Meanwhile enemy team was constantly on top of one another protecting each other

Update again just got out of a game that had a Masters 4 DPS player on the enemy team and my team had 1 diamond 4 and 1 Plat 2 dps and im a plat 3 support. Why am i going against someone whos been consistently masters 4-2 every season

Because all self-respectful dps mains have already swapped to op support’s roster.

Interesting. I’ve noticed the opposite when playing DPS this season, though I will say that I’ve been trying to claw back my DPS rank after making the mistake of playing on the weekends of the last 2 weeks of the previous seasons.

But but kdr isn’t a good indicator of quality game play. I only have a 3.5 kdr with hanzo so that 3 deaths would be 10 elims!

Many many games where a DPS has less than 3 kills in 2 WHOLE ROUNDS…cant be expected to carry this…

Support gaps are still just as noticeable to me as tank or dps, if not even more so.

No, though I have observed a substantial increase in “Fight as a team” gaps.

Hard for anyone to get elims when a DPS/support duo yeet themselves into the enemy team and everyone else is left fighting a 3v5, or the tank goes to make space and everyone decides to sit on cart

This seems to be what has broken the game imo. The defending team seems to be at a massive disadvantage in every match. Teams seem to think that spawn camping is the only strategy, and don’t have any clue that if it does work, it only works when the attackers don’t have a numbers advantage, which soon disappears when their ults start popping. Then the defenders spend the entire round staggered and feeding into an attacking team who have the payload as a natural group up point. This continues until the end of the round where there’s a stand off at the last point where the defending team are forced to group up as the fight is outside their spawn.

The round ends with the defending team having 2-3 elms each to maybe 10 or 15. Then if nobody gives up completely and throws or leaves, the same thing happens with the roles reversed! It’s just insane. Sometimes I really wonder if these are real people I’m playing with. The most frustrating thing is, even when you can clearly see the problem, there’s nothing a single player can do to fix it. I’ll intentionally group up with the tank, thinking a 2 or 3 v 5 with the tank is better odds than randomly running into the enemy, but it’s still a hard fight, to the point where it seems down to pure chance if you win or lose.

The game just isn’t fun any more. I think I’ve finally given up on it. Instead of that “just one more go” feeling I got with OW1, I get a “what’s the point in this” feeling instead. I stuck around for the promised PvE at the start, after it was obvious the big negative effect 5v5 and FTP had on the match quality. And after that was cancelled I was going to stick around for the promise that it would be “saved” after the Microsoft buy out. But honestly, I don’t know what they could do to save it. The issue is the player base doesn’t seem to know how to play the game. What I loved about OW1 was the strategy element, the team comps, the tank duos, the counters. Yes, that still exists, but when your team approach the game like any other FPS it might as well not. And that’s sad. OW was one of my favourite games, I put thousands of hours in and don’t regret a single one. OW2 has been a disaster, I’ve put 500 hours in and all I feel when I see that number is that I’ve wasted a year of my life with this game when I could have been playing so many other better games instead.

I’m a bronze player that has played a lot of tank and support because I don’t have the greatest mechanical skill…positioning or game sense. Thought I may as well get a rank on DPS too. I’m half way through my placement matches, lost the first couple, won one in silver, won the next and then played a gold rank match…the enemy tank leaves, so I get another win, despite feeding an ungodly amount of deaths. I shouldn’t be playing as a DPS in gold. Next game should be fun…

All 3 roles in this game do insane DPS so it’s funny seeing people blame DPS diffs. Everyone is a DPS hero in this game. When your team isn’t doing enough damage, that means the tanks and supports need to deal more damage.

No. Absolutely no.

I’ll give you an example where the support was literally the highest rank player in the team, played in a pacing that was clearly faster, was aggressive, and yet was the problem: KCKAHR

First round

  • One of the supports went Moira and healed but Moira is a terrible pick with DVa, but this wasn’t the issue.
  • After the first couple of fights, it was obvious the tank was out of his depth; was thinking what I could play here but nothing I could think of would’ve made a difference that round.

Second round

  • I was deciding between Sombra and Mei- to make up for the massive tank diff. I chose Mei because the enemy tank was aggressive, could get walled off, and isolated.
  • In one of the fights, I thought the supports would keep me alive for a second or two longer than I had, and I lost my first Mei ult because I died while casting.
  • Moira (now Brig) was tilted out of her mind and basically called out the DPS because she had more damage; but she was basically playing solo and I really wanted her to just do the basics. I knew the brig was off doing something else–she wanted to 1v2 and try to get a kill on Mercy–and that cost us.
  • After another lost fight, the declared in VC “this game is done; it’s over”. Very bad mental. But on the last fight I did get a second Mei ult and between the tank and me, we held that point and gave time for the rest of the team to come back and we won.

Third round

  • Best of the 3 maps for Mei and I stuck to the gameplan of isolating the tank, and the other support (not the brig) admitted the wall-off gameplan was working.
  • Won the third round and game once the supports actually supported.
  • Brig remained toxic, wouldn’t apologize, and immediately left the game and logged off (Player not Found).

Now why do I say the Brig was the problem? The bad mental and not trying to solve the problem at hand. None of the call-outs, aggression, or moment-to-moment positioning even mattered when you go in without trying to identify and solve the real problem.

Why I make a point of this: This bad mental is something I see in spades, in the support role.

yeah a blanket statement like this just screams plat.

cant deal more damage if youre team is constantly down one. cant deal more damage if your tank constantly feeds. what about dps taking duels out of los. what should I do there?

the game is far more complex than you seem to think. general statements like this are just dumb.

Everyone is playing on alts or trolling around with new heroes in competitive. Smurfs, cheaters, derankers galore. Just play on alts. It’s what Blizzard wants, anyway.

Honestly I think the game is dead now. Jumped on yesterday played three matches and every single one was lob-sided to the point of players leaving after the first round. With the matchmaker this bad, or whatever the issue is that is causing this, it’s just not worth playing anymore.

That and both Maugas ult and the new Roadhog being based around hindering or slowing players? Possibly the most frustrating abilities outside being hacked. I don’t think the development team even play the game they’ve created…

What you are experiencing is players being at the wrong rank and this is not isolated to DPS players either.

I’m just going to also throw this out there…

If you are killing your targets quickly…
You will always be doing less damage than dos who are spam shooting the tank.

Tracer, Sombra, and widow, when played perfectly, are generally going to be low overall but high burst damage (elim) heroes.

The scoreboard is situationally informative, not inherently informative. It’s uncommon, but does happen, even in high plat, to have the lowest damage but most elims/final blows in the whole lobby.
