Another pro coming patch will feel bad for casuals

dam hehe well im gonna try it of course since this is the only “online” competitive fps hero shoter (whatever) game that i play. wonder if it will be that bad tho… sometimes these streamers/pros say the sky is falling. i wont dismiss what he says and yea if it is terrible then i think we need a shakeup with the dev team. i dont want anyone fired but maybe they should demote the guy making hero decisions

Hopefully wrong possibility: They’re fully switching over to balancing for gold/plat. I really don’t see a world where a 175hp Tracer can exist and make any sense in any other situation.

Which would also explain why every high ranked player who has seen the changes is horrified.

whatever the case this seems like A HUGE patch with not just updates/nerfs but the fundametals of the core game… stuff like that is always wonky

happened with 5v5 when it was introduced… wonky as hell then they nerfed/buffed/rework tons of heroes to accomodate it

i think streamers and pros or people that make their living with the game will always be the most upset since yea its like their livelihood and they take more offense to changes. casual players and joe schmoe will be like what?? but i wonder if will be that bad where joe schmoe is like im done

More like “people who play Overwatch as their job, are upset that Overwatch’s gameplay won’t be assuming people are playing it like it’s their job”.

I have a feeling that this next patch will bring powercreep. Tracer and the rest of the dps receiving health buffs and self-heal passive but also nerf to there weapons. It will be interesting to see if these weapon nerfs will be enough to outdo those buffs especially in top ranks.

Next patch is trying to kill powercreep. They are nerfing burst damage and burst healing. Sounds like they’re increasing the HP pool of squishies. All things to make characters stop blowing up so fast.

Funny thing i only stated that to say he is not a chatgpt.bot.

The other thing is he was only quoting industry basic practices not his own thoughts, but arguing with gf he tries to just move the conversation from actual content to nonsensical debate about whose step grandfather was jeffs uncle

also yea if the game becomes more tanky paladins or what nerfthis said earlier about the division (ewwwwww) then i hope they change up widow to be somewhat relevant. if the sniper thing is gone fine but i dont want her to be just forgotten and bad… at least rework her or something to be fine with the new game direction

we’ll see i guess

The key thing is casual players like instagib the most.

Burst dmg.actually is a lot more fair in closing skill gaps than sustain sponge games.

yea counterstrike says hello and valorant. two serious competitive type games that have burst ttk i would think

Hehe, but that’s because you’ve been grinding through gameplay design debate for years.

Not because of how well optimized an algorithm is.

This easily might have been something that the head of the Esports division asked from the balance team. The balance team always have to bend to their will.

Would explain some of the weirder behavior on balancing.

Like why GOATs and DoubleBarrier lasted as long as they did.

Given that Sports usually prefers a mostly unchanging basic ruleset.

And a slow pace for a game that’s already difficult to do camera angles for, makes those esports camera angles easier.

Remember how Brig was QP only for literal months. They’ve waited for the next stage of OWL.

Symmetra Torb meta incoming :eye:

Lets be honest, the turret is already a non issue for 95% of players. The turret is pathetic and even with good placement is only a minor annoyance. It’s previous iteration was much more of a pain.

I reckon if he is getting giga buffed it will have something to do with one or both of his firing modes, higher projectile speed/spread adjustment or another scary overload change.

The key issue as long as you keep playing us vs them, there will be no proper consensus.

It’s not about eSports vs casuals, .eSports thrives only when fans watch, fans watch only when they play

It’s not about high elo vs low elo either

It’s about how skill full and scaling do you want the game to be

It matters cause this is a game with no story or discovery.

You are playing the same map same stuff for hours

So things being skillful is how you ensure replayability and give a sense of progression.

These are bare basics.

This is the reason why easy games don’t do well even in single player let alone multiplayer

Once you come to the conclusion everyone is on the same.boat for skill expression only then can you suggest proper changes without bias

That’s when the game will thrive

Passive healing Sombra with infinite Stealth.

I can’t find it. Maybe it was removed. :confounded: It said that the OW team was working on a major patch to undo all the balance mistakes introduced since the launch of OW2, and it would essentially be a redesign of the PvP. They also said the game would be rebranded as Overwatch Next, but I don’t buy that bit for a second. There’s no way.

It was pretty ambiguous. No specifics, but I interpreted it to mean that they were going to reduce the sustain creep (really just wishful thinking on my part). Soon later, Alec started talking about reducing burst heals and damage in streams, and he mentioned that they were doing a major patch that would somewhat require us to relearn the game. He said they’d like to do a patch like this once a year now.
