I main Mercy. I started at a really low bronze when I first started playing, but I feel like I worked really hard to get where I am now, which is at 2800 ( I know that isnt that impressive but it means somwthing to me lol). Anyways, I was playing a competitive with a diamond and top 500 player( I think he was 160 something). The diamond guy was trying to tell me how to play, and not in a constructive way. I politely asked him to stop. He didn’t like that and started to dog on me and the top 500 player jumped in and they were telling me I suck, called me a hardstuck silver and that I need help. My thing is that I think everyone has their own play style and I think mine works for me. I usually average 18-22k heals and 1300+ db. In this particular game I was just shy of 18k heals and a little over 1700 db. My guess is he was mad because I wasn’t pocketing him when he was playing Pharah. I tried pocketing him the second round but he wasn’t hitting a single shot and so I stopped because that’s such a waste. I guess my question would be, am I playing mercy wrong? In diamond is it better to pocket someone than to focus on your whole team?
too much healing too little db for that rank imo! in order for u to rank up, you’ve now entered the elo where Mercy’s healing isn’t as important as her db. it is VERY important to allow your second support to heal as much as possible so that they can get their ultimate’s faster as most, if not every other support’s ultimate, is worth more/better than Valkyrie.
at the end of the day, it’s okay if you have silver medal healing as long as your db numbers are around 2-2.5k per game you should be set
I’m sorry you had to play with someone like that. Some people aren’t good at explaining things to people differently. (As in they can only explain one way, and that way doesn’t fit with everyone.)
I think dB is a little busted, because it never seems to display the correct number ![]()
But that is very important. One of the things that really helped me improve with Mercy was learning when to heal and when to boost.
Especially when it’s quality over quantity. Is the health coming from little fill-ups, or when the other player really needed it?
I’ve heard that you should only heal when the person’s health gets below 75%, and even then know when to damage and when to heal.
Like if the rest of the team is dead and you’re with a low-health ulting hog - do you heal or boost? Do you boost or heal during ults? What about pushes? When you’re retreating?
I see! I guess I dont trust the other healers as much as I should, and I end up solo healing more than I would like. Thank you for the constructive criticism I appreciate it.
This is probably what he was trying to say but he was so rude about it. -_-
Let me take this opportunity to highlight the underappreciated HolyShiftKid who’s video on Mercy made me take her up after I swore it would be the one character I would never play:
Awesome! Thanks guys
All videos have some value, I will say that for whatever reason Holy has an incredible talent for highlighting the key points of style that you need to observe. His Brig guide is equally valuable and to the point.
Don’t worry 2 much about what people are saying ingame, because even really good players will probably give you bad, misleading or flat out wrong advice in the middle of a match. They have such a limited pov and they couldn’t possibly be focusing on your gameplay enough to analyze it while still performing
Even if they were correct, fine, watch the game back after and come to that conclusion on your own. But in the moment, just try to ignore or deflect people who backseat or flame you
Thanks for the advice guys :3. My 3rd game in after asking you guys I got 3300 db and 24k healing. Here’s to hoping it’s not a one off thing XD.
Is mercy the only hero you play? If so, I’m more impressed that you even managed to climb that high with her alone tbh. I can’t imagine the amount of grinding required to do that.
I think this might be the case. The all-rounder Mercy is a lot weaker with 55 HPS instead of 60 so the next best thing is stick to your strongest DPS and boost him far and beyond. I personally play also in quite low level and I do both. But in the end its better to help everyone than to pocket one person. Especially for low elo games (more healer than support). But for the “optimal play” you have to pocket it seems. But play like YOU like it. I mean there is a reason I dont really want to be GM (but I cant)^^
yea, but “the right palystyle” exist, if u want to climb heal less and use blue beam waaaaaaayyyyyy more, at plat the avg per 10 mins u should aim for is 10k heals and 2k dmg boost
People have a tendency to lash out when deep down they know it’s them making the mistakes. I didn’t see the match, of course, but this teammate of yours just sounds like a d-bag.
If you are happy with where your at and you enjoy yourself then its fine. However if you want to improve and get better theres really good advice in this thread
thats amazing!!! beautiful numbers, keep up the great work! ![]()
First of all, don’t take high rank players opinion as a fact. In order to reach high rank in this game you just need to have a good aim, and overall good fps skills.
Someone can just one trick widow with perfect aim and reach gm without even understanding 99% of the characters.
As for mercy. I would say the best way to play her is just understand her kit, who you work with and who you work against.
So if to give few general tips, maybe they would help and maybe you already know them.
- damage boost is not really damage increase for the team, only for certain player. It is useful with bursty heroes that do ton of damage per shot like Junkrat or Hanzo that might be able to finish a target with that slight damage buff. As you can guess it’s mostly useful for dps but tanks like hog or support like Zen can also benefit from it quite a lot.
- Don’t be afraid to use her gun when attacked or finishing a target yourself, it does more damage than you think and her projectile size is pretty big
- You’re probably aware of all of these considering your rank, but try to utilize super jumps and master them for maximum defensive power.
- Understand your counters… If enemies have dive or a good sniper, might be better to switch to something like Lucio or brig/moira if they have dive.
I probably didn’t teach you anything new considering your rank but overall just try to ignore toxic players, even if people have high ranks it doesn’t mean they really understand a specific hero or understand you.
Yep, you’re playing mercy wrong. Right click dps the majority of the game and only heal tanks when necessary. You should be averaging 2k dmg amped effortlessly by playing like this. But don’t forget that the other support is priority #1 and you cannot let them die. Without them you will have to main heal and you just don’t get great value that way.
Also, you can DB others as well. Actually, you should. See you want to look out for when your team mates use burst abilities like fire strike, storm arrows, dynamite, hook, etc and boost that. Some of these are hard to boost because you can’t react in time to be there, but others you can. You just typically default back to your dps if there isn’t anything else to DB. Also sometimes tanks will have a better position to do damage than dps (enemy is in reach of tanks but harder for dps to hit) so pay attention!
Big tip: mute chat. For me personally, people saying things can be distracting and it’s difficult to focus on the game. If they are toxic then it just gives me anxiety and I play worse. If you are the same then you should mute them. You need your focus to be on the game, not on being annoyed with your team mates.
I’m glad that everyone is giving advice… But it just sounds like a typical toxic pharmercy situation tbh.
I groan whenever I see pharah because even if the pharah is terrible your team will flame you half the time if you don’t pocket them. They’ll flame you if you swap off Mercy too.
Like yeah your DB numbers could be higher, but let’s be honest that’s not why the people were toxic.
unfortunately, if you have pharah, its your job to spend 90% of your time with her, otherwise she has to play with her hands tied behind her back. I’ve got hundreds of hours on both and play eu so I’m used to various shades of pharmercy. It sucks for both pharah and mercy players… but yea. If you have pharah, even if she is awful, you’re still better off pocketing her, because if you don’t, she is literally less than deadweight.
