You just need to be able to stay alive long enough to build it, which has always been the real trick with her
Does anyone actually value this aspect of her gameplay? The more I think about her balance history, the more I’m convinced that the devs are massively overvaluing this at the expense of everything else.
Their design decision became irrelevant after they power creeped her counters and buffed other heroes enough to become new counters.
Outside of the disorganized chaos that is quick play you rarely going to see long use of charge lvl 2 or 3 as that leaves you open to getting deleted by better abilities.
Besides fun you playing Sym to taxi and spam orbs until countering forces you to change heroes
I only pick Sym every once in a while, but my experience is that I don’t get much use out of the beam even in QP. There’s no reliable healing or protection for a DPS in QP, so I always end up falling back on heavy orb use. I mainly use beam as a finisher, or as a desperation tactic to try and scare off enemies who I’m not realistically going to hit with an RMB, like Tracer and Genji.
And it’s a crying shame, because her level three beam has to be one of my favourite attacks in the game as far as sounds and visuals go, while the orbs feel pretty naff. Oh well.
I stopped thinking he had Syms best interest in mind when he said
I didnt and still dont know a single Sym main that wanted her damage POTENTIAL increased she was capable of insane damage the only thing Syms were requesting was the 30-60 numbers be brought up a bit so it didnt start as a tickle beam.
No I don’t value much of her m1 gameplay because it’s like one of the least interesting parts of her kit and opportunities for it are just inherently rare even when ignoring charge time and just looking at its range vs sym’s mobility
I 100% agree that devs, and tbh a lot of the community tunnel vision her primary way too hard even when thinking about her balance. like again, she’s not going to have many opportunities for it, if she does get made into being able to have as many opportunities for primary like most other heroes for theirs, then either she got reworked into a tank or she was broken.
them expecting sym to have most of her uptime from primary when she literally can’t is an unreasonable expectation that needs to go away. blizz needs to be realistic and balance sym with the expectation that primary won’t be used much.
sym literally has plenty of opportunities for her to make dynamic and aggressive plays on her own by combining tp with orbs and turrets, yet blizz and a lot of the community either refuses to acknowledge that or are ignorant of it. and it’s obvious when you look at how those same people support infinite tp despite how blatantly detrimental it is.
Honestly, I never understood why they thought ramp up was a part of Sym’s identity. That’s like the least important part of her kit. When she had a lock on beam, I can see why that would be a thing, because it gives people time to realize they’re being melted. But lock on is gone, and I really don’t think the ramp up beam adds anything to her kit. Why does it exist?
