2-2-2 lock is the only way to stop GOATS

There’s a lot of ways to do it, but locking 2-2-2 (at least in competitive) has become as necessary as the one-hero limit.

Tanks can’t be balanced as tanks right now because that’s only balanced in a 2-2-2 comp. Any more than 2 tanks per team, and their extreme durability and utility starts becoming oppressive.

The devs keep telling us that locking 2-2-2 would limit player creativity in building a team comp, but I ask you: look at what’s happening with that “creativity”

Teams either have too many dps, which makes the tank and healer miserable, or too many tanks, which makes everyone miserable.

I know that a 2-2-2 lock sounds controversial now, but so did the one-hero limit before it was implemented. And look how far we’ve come! All this time later, the idea of multiples of one hero on the same team sounds insane and impossible to balance.

That’s because it is. And so is the ability to compose half or more of your team out of the same role. GOATS is more than a few heroes being unbalanced, its a case of the game itself being balanced around 2-2-2 despite it not being enforced. GOATS won’t ever go away until either the game is murdered, or the option to stack 3+ tanks is taken away.

Role lock. Probably even role qeue. Please, devs.

Oh, sure. Let’s ruin a balanced hero that isn’t a problem in 2-2-2, alienate their mains, and lose a sizable chunk of playerbase because their favorite hero was ruined. Again.

IMO Disabling AoE healing from stacking would be a great solution. Therefore Lúcio and Brigitte would be useless when run together, both of whom were members of GOATS and therefore won’t involve either being directly nerfed any more.

It’s any meta at all, because it the sheer variety in strategies you can run.

We’ve been there. It’s Dive. You can run whatever you want, but Dive wins.

Seems like people are realizing this more and more… I feel like that without role select the game will be impossible to balance. The only other thing they could do is completely gut tank dps and support healing power.

Look, you don’t fix balance problems by slapping a superficial bandaid over them. A role lock only hides the problem, it doesn’t fix it.

Why do people lack the imagination to see how every character can be buffed to be viable with a 222 limit?. As more characters get added it’s just going to make no limits even more ridiculous.

@trogdor was one hero limit a band aid?. Or do you people here only accept limits when the devs propose them?. Honestly would bet all my saving that if locking 222 had come from jeffs mouth everybody would be psyched and talking about how much better the game is gonna be.

@primalbeast you’re right that is the only other way. Gut the tanks and supports so they are defense and heal bots and barely fun to play.

2-2-2 isnt always the best option. Sometimes I dont mind solo healing with a single tank if we just need more dps to break their lines.

Then what do you think is the problem?

Tanks being hard to kill is baked into the definition of the role itself. That only becomes a balance issue once you start stacking 3 or more of them.

At the very least if they wont implement 2-2-2 then 1-1-1 and 3 flex, is also an option. At least you wont have 3 healers and 3 tanks.
