Devs gotta do something, or some of their most dedicated streamers are going to quit the game.
Here’s the best I can come up with:
-
Start matching GM’s into lower tier games. Roughly 100-200SR lower than current games. (But try to make sure both teams have equally good DPS)
-
Start awarding less SR to DPS in Diamond and above. Should thin out the ranks in Diamond and above. However they have smaller population’s than Plat+Gold, and it’s only going to be a slice of Diamond DPS deranking fully into those skill tiers.
-
Allow DPS players in high skill tiers to play Tank/Healer for # minutes (game+queue), and have that subtract # minutes from their DPS queue.
-
Fix the meta, so it’s less barrier/resistance focussed
- More Lucio speedboost speed
- Less slow effect from Orisa Halt
- Less damage from Storm Arrow.
- It should be a follow-up on a bodyshot against 200hp, not a barrier/tank shredder.
- Increase Discord back to 30%
- The biggest thing that would bring Dive back
-
Another backup option, if the other methods aren’t desirable, would be “Randomized Sequential Pick” for Roles, similar to how Apex Legends does their pick system.

I mean, to be fair, iddq has “quit” overwatch multiple times now.

With time comes growth and change. Maybe they need a break. Its okay if old streamers go out and new ones come into the field. And believe me every day new ones are popping up.

While that may be true.
It’s also true that it’s hard to have a streaming career when you might get only 1-3 games over 2 hours. Of which, there could be leavers.

Or you know they could just queue for the three roles…

That’s not gonna happen if the new streamers have tons of queue time as well.
This is a wide ranging systemic issue, not a one-off personality issue.

More time to talk with the stream?

I’d imagine very few DPS in GM are GM tier in all three roles. And even if they did. If a streamer is famous for their DPS play, they are gonna lose a lot of audience if they are on Tank 90% of the time.

Harbleu and ml7 both are good example of entertaining streaming in other role than dps

More time for twitch viewers to think about watching other games instead of Overwatch.

Oh no. Another dps streamer quitting the game. In the meantime tank or support based streamers are getting matches in less than 2 minutes. Maybe instead of playing dps 24/7, they could do what rest of the playerbase doing: selecting all 3 roles.

Whenever you see comments like this from streamers/creators/etc. It’s usually just them venting, for a lot of them it’s their livelihood and they already have a large platform, quitting or even taking a long break from streaming can be very damaging towards a career or the channel’s health…people will leave/unsub if they don’t hear from a creator in a long time, they will move onto other channels and as old names move out new names move in.
Think of something like Fortnite, many creators always threaten to quit, or say they’re done with fortnite, yet they never do quit…why? because they like the game, have a large following they worked for and let’s be honest…no one wants to see someone like Myth stream silver league/CS gameplay over seeing one of the best fornite players in the world. All these pro players can complain they don’t like fortnite, but they know they’re not gonna leave knowing how much money that game makes from dono and ad rev, but also how many tournament oppurtunities they have that cash out players. Either way there are new players popping up everyday/getting signed/winning tourneys/etc. that will gladly take their spot and are just as good if not better at the game.
Not trying to be insensitive/inconsiderate towards their career/frustrations, but i’m just trying to make light of how creators are just going to get replaced if they do decide to drop out, streaming or being a high elo player isn’t unique or rare nowadays.

Whats likely to happen is Blizzard giving them preferred Queue to throw the queues under the rug. Really outside of balancing DPS to be underpowered compared to Tanks and Supports it’ll be difficult to get more players on those roles.
I think they would, if playing Tank/Healer guaranteed them a faster DPS queue in the next game.

Good ideas by the op.
My suggestion is similar, expand the ques for DPS only but ensure that DPS on both sides are evenly matched.
Tanks and support in GM will get GM DPS.
Tanks and support in M will get either GM or M DPS, but the DPS will be evenly matched.
Tanks and support in Diamond will get either diamond or masters DPS, but the DPS will be evenly matched.
And so on,
It spreads DPS out more but ensures the games are still balanced for everyone.
Just revert roleQ.
Today I have seen Kragie sit in queue for half an hour playing some bridge building game WITH A TANK DUO PARTNER.

If the streamer isn’t entertaining them, then its a good time to learn a lesson of the entertainment business.

this sounds like a horrible idea in terms of match quality…

And who exactly is forcing him to play dps all the time? No one but he.
If you queue with a tank you can reduce the queue times to 50-70% … chipsa waits about 30min for a game or longer… with a tank he can get games within 10min.

Yeah, I had thought about that. It’s a bit sketchy. But it would fix the immediate optics issue.
And could be fine, if they were also fast working on fixing the systemic issue. And set player expectations that that’s where their priorities are.
