✅ Move Mei to Tank, w/ no changes

Just realized something.
If they moved Mei to Tank role, with no changes;

She’d be only tank that would be vulnerable to sniper headshots.

Which originally I thought was a problem. But that could be a feature.

1. It would effectively block Mei from being a must-pick in OWL/GM.

2. While also making it so she doesn’t need nerfs that would make her garbage on Diamond and below.

Those aren’t problems, those are good.

Keeping Mei out of toptier, protects her from nerfs.

Also

  1. Mei could bridge the gap between 2-2-2 and 1-3-2.
  2. Provide good queue times because DPS players will use her.
  3. While also making it so that a single tank isn’t having to do all the tanking.

meanwhile: my suggestion:

Tanks are supposed to protect their teammates and create space. Mei is good at punishing people taking space, but not so good at creating space, due to her primary being blocked heavily by shields. Her only protection ability is wall, which also blocks friendly projectiles, so in my opinion, this is not a good idea.

I’d rather avoid major reworks.
Just look how aggro Symm and Mercy players are about it.

Also I like how Mei can be a “Third DPS”, while also being a competent OffTank.

Which is exactly what queue times could use right now. More DPS players choosing to go Tank instead.

I think Bastion, Doomfist, And Mei should be reworked into tanks.

And Symmetra/Sombra could possible be supports.

Then we’d have 11 tanks, 11 DPS, and 9 supports.

Then maybe once and for all, the queue times would even out.

Yeah, but I was thinking, maybe we could get Mei to be like another offtank support like Brig.

Honestly I am suggesting this because I have been struggling trying to find a second support I can play.

I wouldn’t be suggesting it right now, if we had a hero 32 hint.

I really don’t understand this idea of “rework everything into tanks”.

Moving mei to tank with 250 health is going to make her a throw pick again.

Shame on you for your beyond awful suggestion.

I think if we could rework Mei to Support like old Sym used to be (or at least in a way)… that might benefit those old players like me, who used to be Sym support mains.

Fixing two birds with one stone.

I think being one-shot by the snipers would be too much of a handicap as a tank. But I don’t hate this idea overall. Mei is basically a half-tank anyway (as were a fair few of the old defence heroes)

And that’s fine. That’s desirable.

She can be a throw pick in OWL/GM, while being highly played on Diamond through Bronze, and Quickplay. (Because she’s the closest thing to a “Third DPS”).

And if she’s bad in Diamond through Bronze, there’s tons of little small buffs they could do. Like +50selfheal in iceblock or reload in iceblock.

That’s a pretty terrible feature…

That’s kinda poor logic for doing something and sounds more like what someone offering me a poison chalice might say…

That’s just a series of devastating/confusing nerfs…

She could certainly function as an off tank with extra health so she’s not a one shot. Kinda like Hog I’m a sense, where he punishes bad positioning Mei punishes bad advances.

I dunno if the impact would be that massive  the numbers of dedicated Mei players would surely pale in comparison to McCree/Widow/Genji, but it would definitely have some sort of impact due to huge difference in numbers.

I think Doom would be a great candidate that could function in a similar manner to Ball.

I like the idea of non healing Supports or tweaking Damage characters to fit into non-Damage roles, HOWEVERRRRRR these sorta things are often hated by their mains. Perhaps new characters like Sanjay could have a similar theme to Sym but in a more support oriented way (make permanent bridges/tp out of light or something, create turrets that heal/temp shields that decay when you leave).

Oh I see… You’re just creating objectively bad characters then by deliberately making them unviable at the top =\

If only we had a hero hint, so we would not have to entertain such thoughts.

But then again at least Mardi Gras somehow leaked. (Sarcasm)

Why would I ever want Mei as one of my two tanks? Like seriously, what makes her a tank?

She has a wall that’s is more effective then a barrier at times, she can be immune to damage and regen health at the same time, she is great crowd controller and makes space easily.

Literally GF is right, she could move over with no issues… at least just looking over the data.

No, I’m observing a truism that applies to “annoying/cc heroes”.

Is that a hero shouldn’t feel both unfair and unfun at the same time.

Or more specifically, particularly annoying heroes shouldn’t be toptier.
Especially since that’s just begging for devs to give poorly-thought-out sledgehammer nerfs to the hero.

By making it so that Mei is intentionally less effective at GM/Pro, it protects her from claims of being overpowered.

One thing for sure I hope Blizz figure this out.

Mei should not stay a dps hero. (if her kit wants to be a tank…let it.)

But I think we got enough DPS heroes.

This.

OWL meta wouldn’t change from Rein Dva, it would just be McCree Reaper then.

Wall isn’t enough damage mitigation to get ANY play at the top level.

Well, I got a concept for that.

✅ Solving the Barrier Tank problems

But to be fair hero pools is going to have a heavy impact anyways.

I like Mei being in DPS. If she wasn’t, I couldn’t be playing her because I can’t tank in this meta.
