Wall is not a tanking ability. It is a stall that often helps the enemy as much as it helps you.
The best use of wall is often to isolate and kill enemies (almost like a really bad unreliable hook). If you are forcing a Mei to use wall to stall to support the tanks you are one good pick from that team crumbling.
What Mitrovarr is saying is tanks can operate in the open and take multiple sources of damage without caving instantly and sustaining pressure on the enemy. Mei can potentially survive burst but she is not sustaining any sort of pressure.
Her damage is laughable too. As long as you aren’t in danger of getting walled off then you have nothing to really fear from Mei.
In order for her to be a tank she would have to be reworkws so much she would essentially just be a different hero with the "Ice " them…
-Her wall would have to be reworked because it impedes her team too much
-Her cryofreeze would have to also be reworked into some sort of Ice armor that doesn’t stun her and make her easy to exploit
-Her damage would need to be increased
-Her model would have to be made larger
-Her Ultimate would also need some actual damage. Maybe a brittle effect that if you don’t get frozen you still retain a discord like debuff for several seconds after escaping the epicenter where you get frozen
-Her secondary would have to be changed. The damage is laughable and unreliable to create any form of pressure
-Her freeze beam range would have to likely be increased.
You still haven’t really addressed the first thing I said btw.
Mei isn’t the tank we need right now. We need main tanks, supports have gotten nothing but main healers since release and its been great, no one complains about seeing Zen+Lucio comps.
Blocks ults, stalls objectives, makes it so you can bypass chokepoints for free
Another one I use it for is to place it between you and the enemy team, while approaching the last objective on 2CP map.
Means your Rein barrier isn’t shredded by the time you get to the objective.
Tanking abilites tend to do more then just protect. They often enable your team too.
-Barrier: Create safe zones where you can pressure the enemy through
-DM: negates non-beam damage while allowing your to maintain LOS on enemy for counter potential
-Bubble: Basically the same as above
-body blocking: negates incoming non-piercing damage, you can shot through the tank
Wall prevent damage on BOTH sides. It is a stall tactic. Or a pause button if you will.
That’s not really true. I use enemy Mei’s wall to my advantage all the time. Unless they got a Sonar arrow or Widow Ult I can use it to mask my own movements. It’s part of the reason I like using Hog against Mei since her own wall can mask my movements and allow for me to get juicy off angle Hooks they don’t expect.
As a tank Main I use this tactic a lot. I wait for the wall then hit a hard flank. I ask for Lucio’s when enemy has Mei for this very reason.
“Lucio save your boost, as soon as you see wall amp it up and follow me guys.”
It’s a pretty hilarious tactic. One of my favorite place to use this is King’s Row. As you’re pushing the payload past the mega on second point Mei is likely to wall around there. You run through the mega room or the left by the stairs/mini pending on positioning and hit them hard from the sides. Pretty damn effective.
