He’s my favorite stealth hero and the only one i’ve played in ranked. Gave up picking VP because i was so bad at it, but would like advice on why its picked and when it should be used.
You can use it to set up combos if your teammate is competent. He/she casts Ring of Frost under the trapped enemies, and you release VP early just before the impact to root them.
Or you trap them with VP, Diablo casts Apocalypse, you release R just before impact and you get a guaranteed multi stun. That is just one way to use it, of course.
In real world usage, though, you might even have to use it as a panic button to escape late game disasters and teamwipes, which is not wrong if it avoids a 63 second death timer.
If you want a good example of how not to use VP and play Zeratul, here is one.

There’s 3 ways you can basically use VP.
1 - Setup combos, like apoc, ring, mosh…
2 - Setup your own combos. You know, you go in post 16 with W/E + Q + AA and get out, wait a big, go in with vorpal + Q and VP. You wait a bit for the Q cd back, drop VP + Q again and that basically one shots backliners without them doing anything. With this make sure to get the Q cdr at 16.
3 - You can just VP half their team and while your team focus on killing another hero. Ex: Team goes in hard on someone, you VP the healer + another person in the backline and now your team has the time to finish the kill. This is probably the most important way to use VP.
And, you know, there’s always those tricks you can do with it, like using on your own team to deny damage/pyro/salvo and others, deny damage to structures etc.

VP is such a versatile tool.
Since it affects everything , ive been able to do pretty neat thing with it.
Ally about to die by consumed souls ?
VP them and they will be saved.
Pyro blast , precision strike , i mean the list is pretty big but VPing and ally can be really usefull.
VP enemies is more to set up kills.
But the best thing is it works on core.
What this means is , your your core is about to die , VP it . it may give you just enough time to save it.
Theres many game si did in hanamura or black hearts bay and it saved the team 
!
In short .
VP ally : to save
VP enemies : to set up kills
VP core : emergency button to buy time.
VP a camp : please dont do that unless you know exactly what your doing lol

I believe back in the day it did not freeze the cap. They nerfed it due to being a consistent and reliable boss steal strategy.
Which is weird because Ley Line Seal can still steal any camp with ease while also being a lower cd.
Any decent zera would never let you get a boss if void was up. After it happened in pro play a few times they nerfed it.
Void is by far the strongest ult in the game. Its engage, peel, save, protect a building, stall amd zoning.
Even aftwr its repeated nerfs it is still that strong.

- When the enemies clump up VP to set up your team for wombos
- VP to peel and run away
- VP to stop ppl from running
- VP to break the enemy team in half while you kill the other half
- VP to stop crucial targets like a hammer or Morales while you take out the rest of the team
- VP to save allies from big death ults like precision strike, consume soul
- VP your buildings to buy time for allies to arrive to defend or to eat obj shots. Anyone know if you can VP your core to stop the tower shots on towers of doom?
- If your team mate is close to dying in a trade with an enemy, VP your ally so they can’t take fatal dmg and then kill the enemy

That’s cause Leyline has counter play. You just spread a bit and medivh can’t really leyline everyone. With VP it was different, because you can just put it right at the entrance of the boss and the enemy wouldn’t be able to get to the point.

Also LLS doesn’t freeze structures and capture points. So him being able to steal bosses is balanced.

When tod 1st came out you could do that, the next patch they fixed it. It does work for bhb.

Void Prison is all about setup or prevention. For example it can completely stop an enemy chasing a low HP ally saving them. Or it could allow a Jaina to land a perfect wombo combo on enemies with her circle.
