Came home from work, opened try mode with my favorite hero, Azmodan, and summoned Demon Lieutenant in the lane. Smiting down minions doesn’t grant XP if you’re not in range. Same for Demon Warrior, same for Globe of Annihilation. Instantly logged out.
I didn’t mind when they reworked him even if they removed some of my favorite aspects (trait build with 2nd charge at 20, no timed life on Demonic Invasion, Lazer build). But this XP globe thing is honestly too much. The whole reason I play Azmo is because he’s a macro god (not Abathur level but still) and a teamfight machine. Now that Blizzard gutted his ability to soak XP by that much without giving him anything in return, I don’t see the point in playing him at all.
Moreover, now if the mage in your team nukes a wave before it hits the middle of the lane, they’re effectively denying their team XP. It used to be already bad enough that these guys denied regen globes for the team, the addition of “XP globes” will only make it worse. And you know people won’t stop doing it.
Looks like I’ll be gone for a while.

the whole purpose of his trait is too soak, they will probably change this next patch

I think the problem here is that there isn’t an easy in-between solution with his globes. With the old XP system he’d still have to be within visual range of his globe to take XP. Meaning if his globe just automatically gave him XP you’d end up with a hero that could soak from a very long range that can’t be interacted with. His globe mechanic just doesn’t mesh with the new system. At this point they’d probably have to buff his PVP potential further to compensate.
As for his trait it obviously needs to absorb XP with what it kills, like it did prior.
Aka: a rework no one asked for.
I have a feeling they will allow xp soak on last hit or outright revert it before the end of the year… fingers crossed

You are hurting your team now by nuking waves on the other lane with r+q. All the exp disappears in 6s.
It’s absurd, hope it gets the same treatment as Lava Wave (it auto-collects exp).

XP soak on last hit as I said would be problematic with the range of certain abilities, it would end up allowing them too safe a soak that has little interaction. If globe could auto-soak like lava wave you’d literally be able to stay safe in-between lanes and nuke em out with globes with very little repercussions, at least visual range puts you in that risk reward situation.
This is why the visual range is still more preferable as abilities are balanced around it better.
Yeah, there’s absolutely no benefit whatsoever to Globe or Demon Lieutenant or Demon Warrior other than XP. They should totally be placed on the same tier as a heroic with two minute cooldown.

Xp globes is a terrible terrible idea. Now snowballing is going to be even worse. Gone are the days of getting into a 2-3 lvl lead, it’s now a 4-5 lvl lead before the game ends. if you cannot pick the orbs up because your forced to turtle you have no xp coming in widening the gap.

Xp soak on last hitting would not be so problematic if it was limited to within the default sight range of heroes. This would still prevent Azmodan from reaping the benefits by throwing the orbs at all sides from the middle lane.
But we still don’t have conclusive idea of what impact allowing last hitting would have under current game conditions. It’s just another experimental change on top of the first one, and they threw the conventional rules around which the heroes have been balanced for 5 years now out the window. Outside of first negative experiences we barely have a picture of how things are working at the moment and how the overall balance is impacted.

azmodan is a terrible hero, he was destoryed when they took almost all his defensive talent picks away and 1000hp taken from him as well.
you almost never see azmodans soak damage anymore instead they’re full hp in the back throwing dunks ever 10secs.
his only defensive talent is a crappy heal from his beam that has to complete.
azmodan isn’t good anyways he dies so fast to % hp heroes and gets hit by everything.
worst of all azmodan has no escape until 20 and its not even good.
he has been a bad pick from awhile.
old azmodan was way more fun to play you actually felt like a boss and could take hits.
Don’t forget they nerfed his old range, and took away his quest talent at level 1 that increased his range by I think 33%. Oh and don’t forget the Trait talent that buffed the minion/catapult you summoned your General on. Man, old Azmo was a blast. Volskaya felt impossible to lose on with him.
And now with this XP globe change he, as so many have said, hurts his team by essentially denying allied XP when he nukes a wave in an unattended lane. The Hero is even further ruined now.

I’m not against xp globes I think it might be a really good thing.
But az generals and lieutenants not being able to soak xp is a bug or an oversight I think. That’s the answer to how to balance him from being op or useless in terms of soak

yea out of all the heroes in this game i honestly think azmodan was nerfed to oblivion. i like how they reduce the speed of his Q as well pretty easy to get out of it if your paying attention.
honestly its sad the list can go on and on of how much was taken away form old azmodan and new azmodan was given almost nothing in return for how much was taken away.
Yeah I used to picked those alongside Demonic Invasion. Kind of a wacky build but it worked wonders on a lot of maps. New AA build came the closest to this former glory due to cdr on trait at lvl 4.
Rotating lanes as a ranged dps to accomplish double soak is a skillful act as is paying attention to the minimap and using long range abilities clear waves and allow your team to position differently for a fight.
And it would increase interaction, last hit is harder than just being in vision range meaning you’d have to time abilities and soften up minion lanes instead of spamming
So this patch showed you that you have poor teammates who don’t soak.
But it’s really always been like that.

You mean like a macro hero? One of those hero types that makes hots unique and drew in a lot of players? One that requires you to have minimap awareness? Because azmo’s long range Q is causing so much problems in diamond or pro games lol… he’s a low tier hero already. Outside of his Q, lava wave, aba mines and precision on nova who are these mysterious long range xp soakers you are referring to?
Edit: +chromie’s W and fenix laser ult (not that the laser ult wasused for clearing anything other than zerg on brax, who already don’t provide xp)

Suggestion: new azmodan skill: 1 key: Summon treasure goblin. The goblin is controllable by azmodan and will automatically attempt to collect XP globes within a large “aggro” radius before returning to where he’d been told to wait by the azmodan player. Another 2 skill will cause him to create a portal no matter where he is on the map and attempt to jump into it, resetting the cooldown on summon treasure goblin if he’s not killed within 4 seconds of opening the portal.
The goblin has no offensive capabilities, but is meaty and has roughly the same HP as a hero making him hard to kill-- conversely he has a long CD for the skill so killing him denies az the ability to double soak.
Honestly, reverting the XP globe changes would be simpler, but the devs never like to do the simple approach.
Is gathering globes and preventing your opponent from doing so somehow not a skillful act? Is there no strategy currently involved with XP globes?
Yes exactly so bring both, the skill of last hit (ranged), lane bullying ie: xp globes and regen globes (melee) and macro soak (ab, az, tlv)
