Tip for the geniuses behind bot behavior: download a free AI pack from the Unity asset store and drop it in, you really can’t do worse.
I just hope the embarrassingly broken behavior is due to a lack of care on the part of the devs, because if this is really the best they can do, it’s sad.
Alien Colonial Marines has a word to you.
But there was an actual mistake that made it much worse and after modders corrected it the Alien AI improved enormously.
Or maybe we could revert to the AIs from before they “upgraded” them to be a million times worse.
They weren’t always this dumb they updated the AI about half a year ago and its been crap ever since.
Oof. A year and a half of apathy after making terrible decisions, I’d love to say it’s a new low for Blizzard.
AI has been pretty decent in the last 1-2 months in my experience.
I’m not ready to alt-f4 myself, when we lose a player now at least. which was what I felt like doing for a while…
That game is scary on many levels.
The A.i removes the scare factor. Trust me.
I totally I agree. I was being facetious. Game is garbage. Good thing they came out with Isolation.
Just looked up that game’s wikipedia page to see what was bad about it.
ROFL at the last sentence, this is amazing.
Go and check out X-Men on NES. Allied AI is the funniest thing ever. AVGN made a video on it as well.
I couldn’t help but notice that two “players” sued them for 1.25 million.
That’s America for ya.
Man those two players sound like money hungry.
Not to mention it seems like first come, first served.
Literally anyone could have made that lawsuit, afterall…
Then you havent seen the AI enough. Because there are a few major flaws that realy break the AI:
- Attack the core, they go for the boss. Core dies.
- Objective up? Attack the core! Objective gains priority.
- Merc camp defeated, but being invaded? Enemies have to die first! Only then we can cap.
- Objective is pushing? First take out all of the bosses before stopping the 5man push. Dont care about the heroes…
- Keep being attacked? We will take this fort down even if it costs 2 of our heroes.
- We are taking the boss, but we are at low hp. No matter what, we continue… 3 heroes dead… time to abandon. Previously they wouldnt attack the boss if they were at low health.
- AoE is dangerous, at all costs, do not walk into it. Does it block your own exit? Walk back into the enemy! This used to be exploitable by stukov into causing the AI to damage themselve, but now they avoid it entirely allowing AoE’s to block heroes from ever leaving their fort.
They might be less predictable during fights and be harder in specific situations. But in macro they are horribly flawed in such way games rarely reach level 20. Its almost like the AI wants to lose.
So… basically if you don’t ping the AI it is poor at figuring where it should be with the team.
If you’re not having your team ping the AI to keep it in important places you’re not giving the AI a chance.
You could say that you should not need to do that—but I disagree.
Except a huge part of the playerbase plays vs AI. And for those its not good if the AI is bad at macro. It can make vs AI boring a lot faster.
Yes, they can go PvP… ‘can’… some simply wont. PvP is a hostile place compared to vs AI regarding toxic players. And some players already have seen enough of that, that they no longer want to bother with it.
And if you consider vs AI obsolete. Do note that if that gamemode didnt exist, hots probably would have died even further than it already did now. Even for PvP players, vs AI can be a relaxing mode and a good training ground to test out a new hero.
That they didnt revert it to the old state, i can somewhat understand (as after all, they want to promote PvP more), but do not ignore vs AI entirely. Because once those players also leave, blizzard will get even less money for this game and become forced to kill it earlier.
I actually worn a ARAM Brawl the other day with an AI Orphea (person dropped literally on game start). The AI Orphea even had very positive KDA. When it said the person was rejoining I was worried but fortunately we won before then.
The AI currently suffers 2 main issues.
- As good as 0 macro play sense. They will prioritize contesting objective or taking bosses over defending their core. I have literally seen them lose to catapults alone. Recent worst case I have seen was them grabbing the enemy boss (cursed hollow, opposite side of the map), and pushing with it into a fort while a boss and 3 players were at their core uncontested.
- They are prone to entering “headless chicken” mode. In this mode they will run around not casting skills and not attacking while you dish out huge amounts of damage onto them. When they do try to run it is too late and they will die. They often enter this mode if your team out powers theirs (5 v 3) or if they are moving to regroup. The joke is if they bothered to regroup properly and engage 5 v 5 without entering this mode they would likely win due to the AI team in Versus AI always having a balanced comp unlike the human team.
Yes. And if is being worked on.
But they refused to revert to before changes (if it had been a simple fix to AI, I would agree… but well, it clearly is not. Given how long this has taken…)
The performance of the AI when pinged in PvP shows me it is improved in how it’s internal AI works, but it’s macro side is indeed/clearly week.
Last I recall hearing is “you have to break things to build them stronger” or something to that effect.
and of course, yes, I was remiss in not thinking about versus AI. My bad/thanks for correcting me!
