Why Stimpack -> Boost?

Is it me or did they basically just nerf stimpacks for no apparent reason? Is there some hidden benefit to boosts that I’m not seeing?

I thought the boost was a replacement for stim packs? I haven’t played since BfA came out so I’m not sure of the changes.

Boost are the same thing as a stimpack to the person who bought it. The difference is that now everyone else in the match gets a 5% XP bonus per boost. So for example, if you play a match that has 3 other people who own boosts (on both teams), you will get a 15% XP bonus, even if you don’t own one yourself. The maximum is 45%, as if you own a boost, you do not gain the 5% since you already have the 100% bonus.

After the mindless vs ai zombies finally catch on, it will start to determine who will be on their friends lists. The mentality can potentially be contagious and spread to those playing other modes.

How are boosts a “nerf”?
Like @Hoku said, a Boost does exactly the same as a Stimpack, but also gives a bonus to other players (on both teams).

So you lose nothing compared to Stimpacks, and other players get more (and you get more from other players’ Boosts).

I wouldn’t call it a “buff” either, since you don’t get more bang for your buck (at least not directly), but I just don’t see how it’s a “nerf”.

Am I missing something?

If people just plays to grind Xp and Gold, then they might actually prefer to play QM now, since AI will never have boosts enabled, so they can potentially get more from human enemies :stuck_out_tongue:

You probably missed the “I hate Boosts because other players get something as well”-threads that have been going around the last couple of days/weeks. Some people apparently think that others getting even a minor benefit is evil, wrong and a major nerf to their personal enjoyment.

The new functionality is extra, they still behave like the old stimpack.

If they were actually nerfed you’d see a huge backlash from people like me who are near permanently stimpacked.

I guess people buying stimpacks have less of an advantage over people who don’t?

It was actually buffed you are likely to get more XP without Boosts and more XP for people who have boosts and got matched with other people who have boosts too.

Didnt you get the memo? Its all scam yo. My bad, I meant to say sham

I regret buying the boost. I wish it was just the old stim pack. I don’t like the shared exp or the icon. Also don’t get me wrong but I’m pretty sure there is no gold boost associated with the boost/stim anymore.

It was cheaper to buy the stim on sale and save the gold for heroes as they came out rather than buy a hero here and there through the year being a casual heroes player.

As far as I’m concerned the boost is now just a waste of money.

I blame this on Activision.

The gold bonus is still there. As far as I am concerned, the bonus XP for the other people in my matches doesn’t affect me at all, and is a nice perk for the friends I queue with.

Boosts are the exact same thing as stimpacks except now they give you more XP based on how many other people have it in your games.

Basically in short it’s a way for Blizzard to encourage people to spend more money in the game.

What’s the point of exp after the game?

Cause when you play nova you level quicker

Item description and the release announcement both specifically say it boosts exp and gold, just like a stimpack.

So blame Activision for making a better stimpack?

Leveling up your hero and account.

The boost(and stimpack) have no effect at all on inmatch exp. It it did, the game would implode overnight.
It would be straight Pay to Win, and nobody wants that. Nobody anyone likes anyway.

When it comes to boosts:

  1. The person buying it gets same affect, and actually gains a bonus when someone else has a boost too.
  2. The likely reason for the change in name has to do with Starcraft 2. That game’s coop commanders can benefit from a bonus xp buff from war chests also called stim packs. So they may have changed it to prevent cross game confusion.
