So here, we lost that game. Two of our team members got on the MVP screen. Valla who got the “scrapper” award, and Junkrat who got “Trapper”.
Li-Ming got MVP because she didn’t die. Anduin got “dominator”. He also kept his team alive and pulled them out of certain doom. Though the game sees Li-Ming as more valuable.
Congratulations to Valla, she dealt 41% of the Team’s damage.
If we look at the stats though.
A bit less impressive. She has the lowest xp because she wasn’t around for most of the kills. She also fed them a lot of xp. BUT. The game just told that player that he/she did something right. Now, do you suppose they will play any differently in their next game?
“I WAS ON THE MVP SCREEN” they’ll tell themselves. So they probably won’t. And if they lose their next game, it will probably be because of their team mates right?
Li-Ming got MVP, while It was mostly Anduin ,giving them that win. And Junkrat got “Trapper” for being one of two heroes with a root. But since Anduin got “Dominator”, he gets “trapper” by default. (Oh and the only tank gets an award for soaking damage)
I really don’t understand what the devs were thinking when they put sh#@! like “Silencer” as an award and created that system. Maybe the MVP screen makes players play more games on average when they appear on it?
My two personal favorites is a healer getting Dominator (brownie points if it is a healer with little to no damage output like Deckard) even though they did amazing healing. The other being a bruiser or tank not getting bulwark or the other one where they went above and beyond taking a beating from the enemy team, but get dominator or something else instead.
As for MVP there is a mathematical reason for it, but in layman’s terms whomever is the biggest stat hog that does not die, has more kills, and/or a high assist will get it. That Li-Ming checked off everything possible to get the stale MVP oatmeal raisin cookie.
It also feels like at times it gives out awards for no other reason than it has to. That Valla getting Scrapper comes off as a perfect example. Or games where a healer gets a healer award from 10-15% healing.
MVP screen was just the Hots devs idea to copy OW but it failed. Just that self upvoting was removed later on says alot about it.
Also premades would mostly just vote thier own instead of voting the one who actually played well. Seen many cases of that where premades only had one from thier team and they all upvoted him even tho he died the most.
Most people dont even care about MVP screen anymore. They got better stuff to do then wasting another 10 sec voting on something that does nothing but tell bad players they were good.
When a troll Leo who died 30+ times ends up getting guardian reward cause he soaked 55% of all team dmg then you know how trash MVP screen is.
Yeah, that Anduin should have gotten MVP for sure. I don’t like that the game over-focuses on damage dealers for MVP, since MVP mostly just comes down to who had the least deaths and most kills/damage.
And since it is stats dependent, people who provide utility that stats can’t track, like vision of the enemy and their rotations or morale upkeep (which is very important in a moba especially when people start bickering), it becomes even less valuable.
I think a commendation system where you can comm allies and it grants them shards (one shard per comm or something) would be a better system, and encourages people to share the love, which in turns fosters a more positive community (not like it would ruin anything to implement either)
Thats what Smite does since I played that too. After game is over you can reward people with specific rewards. It would benefit the game alot more then pointless rewards that tells bad players they did good.
She did 41% of team fight damage. The game counts this differently from the hero damage shown in the stats screen. I suspect the Li Ming on the team was doing a lot of hero damage outside of what the game considers a “team fight” which is why it choose Valla for the award despite Li-Ming dealing significantly more damage in total.
She got it because she had the difference of 6 additional kill vs assist credits and 2 additional “best in team” and “best in match” stats.
Looking at the stats it is hard to say Anduin deserves the spot more than Li Ming since the Li Ming ran up some huge numbers including experience, something Li Ming is usually not that good at. Without the Li Ming pushing such high numbers, it is possible the team would have performed significantly worse throughout the match even with the same Anduin.
It is intended for casual/light hearted stats. For example seeing 200 seconds silence, or the occasional person with 80% of team fight damage.
People gotta stop acting like kids and make it their own responsibility if they wanna get good at the game, scratch what the game is trying to tell you. Usually when I question someone I get the response that they dont actually want to get good and honestly I dont blame them, there are too few of us at the top…
But it’s still pointless though. Usually, the only person who has a silence will get it, reguardless of what the numbers were. So whether you land a few silences or a ton, you get awarded anyway.
I was talking more in terms of innexperienced players. They have little metric to tell if they’re playing well or not, but if the game tells them they’re MVP, it makes sense for them to think what they did was the right thing. So they’ll keep doing it.
I don’t understand why people are still being so nice to you. Look at your name, and you just insult everyone and claim you’re at the top of this game with no evidence.
I think the game is trying to hand out some random rewards.
Might even be a design goal to give some consolation price honorable mentions.
It says team fight damage. Li-Ming has a potential to do tons of padding - so does Valla when just casually attacking the opponent tank.
Comparing the two sides, my impression is that Tyrael-Uther didn’t have any easy time doing their job (looking at deaths and healing), all the while throughput isn’t much different across the teams. Due to range, Valla is the one that’s going to get deleted, been there myself. But really, Uther is particularly bad for this setup, given Anduin has several ways to fix up his team (Q, W, AA) and CC, whereas Uther has to be in melee range (mana, maybe AA heals) and ultimately has two expensive single target heals on long cooldown. (I mean, his kit is literally the same Anduin’s, except restricted by melee. Q, W, E, AA do the same thing.)
ur team lost because Tyrael is a pseudo tank paired with Uther a pseudo healer… every game i have a uther on my team he always have half heals than enemy one also have double the death count wiht an Uther… i know a valla can feed a lot but i cant blame her… i also feed a lot with valla in hard games… especially if i dont have healers but i can end up dealing 100k dmg at the same time i have 10 deaths count and still win games… valla is super sqhishy thats why she is an hypercarry she has to be babysitted or she’ll blown up in a second… i think valla did a good job considering the 11 deaths tyrael + 7 deaths uther, wich even worse than the 9 deatsh valla… tyrael should not die too much since he can escape with his sword… also uther as a hero suck… he is butcher of the supports and need a comp build around him to work properly usually taken as a second healer/offlane … i think the game was basically a 3 v5… uther and tyrael did nothing impressive… liming and junk rat have better chances of survival than a valla so dont think valla was the key factor of the lose
If that award is issued. It might choose to issue other awards like most team fight damage tanked, or longest root time, or most structure damage, e.t.c. They are meant to be interesting or make for a discussion point rather than be serious.
A lot of the mvp awards are problematic in their implantation, but in my mind none are worse than the Escape Artist award.

17 deaths, the only player on the enemy team to break double digits and yet the game still considers that praise worthy.
i would love to see a reverse of these rewards because of course the healer healed and the tank…took damage a lot of these are just fluff awards. Since they are nonsense fluff they should highlight for least heals/ damage and or most deaths on the team. MVP will be the player who most gave the game to the opposition!
This one Soul Survivor and Team Player feels the closest to a reverse award
They are so anti-hero / team player I love them!
The MVP system should have never existed in its current format, or at all. Even before it existed and still to this day, players, inexperienced or otherwise, just use the Stat Tab as justification for why they are “the best”, even if they were in fact the weakest link.
This will surprise nobody, but I like voting for someone who contributed positively in the match. The trouble here is, often the MVP, or most skilled player doesn’t earn a slot as a hero like Val or Brightwing, is awarded the booby prize of “silencer.”
Just put all 10 players up with no awards, and let people vote, or not.
