why do a lot of players leave the game in the lobby these days?
Penalty is off ???
No it isn’t.
I too have recently seen lots of players leaving during draft. I guess they would rather lose the ranking points immediately and move on to some other game in which they think they have a chance, than lose their time in the one about to start, which is likely doomed – at least to their esteem. In other words, they don’t want their time wasted.
To some extent I totally understand that. Some of the trolls in this game (or players so devoided of brain they end up trolling without realizing it) are so incredible in throwing it all, even before the game starts.
Yesterday a horrible draft with two troll players got cancelled by another teammate (don’t know which one then) who left. This player saved my time… and my ranking points, at the cost of his-hers. Whoever he-she is I thank him-her for this sacrifice.
However sometimes surprising outcomes can happen. Sometimes I won games without a healer, or even without a tank… although this requires perfectly synchronized circumstances: good team, noob ennemy team, to begin with, but also the right map in relation to the heroes… and good knowledge of your own team’s heroes as well as the ennemy’s. One cannot fathom how many players venture in ranked mode without even knowing all heroes in this game, not even the majority of them…
No it isn’t. I guess you’re just very unlucky with people getting connection issues or people, who don’t want to lose, because they see a bad draft. Both possible.
lol but if you cancel in lobby YOU LOSE same rank point that lose game…
or change this again?
Yes, but you get a compensation for 10 games in additional 50 rank points. And some people values their time more than one doomed match.
As Yusuke said, in a way leaving is cheaper than waiting out a “bad” game, because while you do lose 500 points, all you have to do is play 10 games and the points will be awarded back to you 50 at a time.
While a demoralizing bad game where everyone flames before the game even started is almost guaranteed -200.
Add to that mix players who don’t know you can’t hover invalid picks, or who try to wait until last pick and show nothing (and the system boots them)… There are lots of ways the draft can cancel.
There are also trolls taking advantage of casual players who select, but don’t lock. Then they lock their selection right 1 second before that other player, causing them to be booted for an invalid pick and the draft to cancel.
Then we have lots of people playing on potato toasters who crash or lag out in the draft.
Oh thanks for that free dodge advice xD
This would get you equally booted as it kicks both of you for not picking a hero, leaving you both with the penalty.
To answer the OP, there are tactical reasons for leaving the game, if you are unhappy with the comp, or the players in the match.
As you would get your points back after winning some matches, 10 or so.
As mentioned in the post earlier, it is alot better than wasting 30mins on a loss and on top of that actually losing the points.
Though this “tactical” decision can only be used once every 10 games then, since the penalty doesn’t stack and would automaticaly reward you with loss off points if you do it twice in a row.
I know some people “leave” accidentally because of long queue times at their MMR and they hadn’t noticed the game has popped.
Not if you steal someones valid prepick. It’s a disgusting thing to do but theoretically it does enable a free dodge (for you, at the expense of an innocent player). Your last second selection is valid, thus you wont get kicked out. The person who prepicked but didn’t lock will get booted.
People have tried in vain to report it as a bug, but it isn’t a bug. Prepicking does not entitle a player to that hero. Until it’s locked, it’s fair game for anyone.
That’s why running down the pick timer is strongly not advisable. You are trusting 4 randoms not to be jerks and troll you at the very last second. Lock your hero well in advance.
I think there’s a bug. I alt tabbed yesterday for moments at the start of drafting. A minute or so after going back in the game, with my hero selected but not picked, as I’m reading talents I get kicked out due to “inactivity” and placed in leaver status, where I proceed to have a wretched experience. Pretty pathetic to have a bug like that.
What you describe don’t sounds like a bug at all, but your brain made an issue, you think you prepicked a hero, but actually you didn’t and that’s why you got kicked out from the draft screen. That happend, because you did your actions fast and routinized, so errors occurs in bad habits like that. - At least I have never experienced such a thing nor I have seen that.
Pretty sure I did.
Either someone picked it before you did or someone banned him. A long time ago, an invalid pick would randomize a hero pick, but it got changed.
The thing is the selection was valid and I stayed actively in the game. That’s a poorly designed system.
Why leave the game in the lobby?
House was on fire.
You can still hover an invalid hero to check talents. It’s a good way to copy paste talent builds for someone who’s asking for a build recommendation. Else, it’s to either read talents or hold a pick to avoid getting countered in the early draft at the risk of dodging.
Well, if you get first pick potatoeButcher, potatoeNova, potatoeAbathur, potatoeMurky, potatoeVikings, potatoeDeathwing or a potatoecombination of those… Maybe the penalty is worthy instead lossing 10 minuts of your life!
The hero was valid when selected.
If you really prepicked a hero, then your pick still can be “stolen” or banned, which is more likely than a bug.
