Why is thirsting blade in the game?

That’s not what meta means.

That’s not the hero’s meta, that’s the hero’s design. It’s an explicit part of their kit. Illidan’s design is attacking things to lower his cooldowns. It’s non-voluntary and part of what makes his character.

Here’s an example of the difference between design and meta: Deathwing’s design is a two-stance hero. However, his meta right now is remaining in Destroyer form for most of the game. That can be fixed by buffing World Breaker or entering a game meta where CC stacking is more valuable than DW’s damage. However, you cannot enter a meta where Deathwing no longer has a stance system, just as you can’t enter a meta where Illidan doesn’t basic attack - not unless the design changes.

Design is what the tools are, meta is how those tools are used. You cannot just stop using Betrayer’s Thirst unless you literally choose to do nothing. The thing you want changed is Illidan’s design.

meta is short for metagame. its not an acronym. cringe.

And then a BW comes by and makes him useless

It depends on the Build of murky, since in late game it can be healed a lot if you have completed the talent of the slime quest.

Hey Captain America I know you’ve been frozen in a glacier since what 2016 but Illidan hasn’t been OP in years. He has a ton of counters, and needs support from his team to succeed.

He is very vulnerable to CC.

Illidan complaints in 2020, lol!

Overall, it’s because that’s how illidan is designed - He has one of the lowest HP pools for melee assassins (Melee assassins without constant sustain tend to have 2k+). His healing numbers also aren’t that much baseline.

Without W buff, no talents - 35 HPS (Very minor)
With W buffs, no talents - 48 HPS (Still minor)
With W buffs and lvl 7 - 96 HPS (Ok, it’s a bit solid now, but quite a number of other heroes still have higher self-sustain - Butcher, Thrall, Malth, ect)
With lvl 7 and lvl 1 W talnts - 205 HPS (Now this bumped him up to Butcher lvl self-healing.

I’m not going to mention other talents, since the lvl 1 W talent is the largest possible boost to his damage, and thus healing dealt. Overall, WITHOUT this talent his healing is more in line with what other melee assassins and bruisers can output, if not on the lower side amongst them. With the talent, his damage, and thus healing output skyrockets. The counterplay to this is to never be right next to your allies, thus preventing Illidan from gaining his gargantuan damage buff and destroying everyone.

If you play around that, fighting Illidan is no harder then fighting any other melee assassin, and much easier then most really.

Because he does not if his healing is reduced, if the target cannot be hit (evade) or if the target has high armor.

Xul can completely shut him down. Evade to ride through periods he is evading. Anti healing scythes to remove most of his healing, he cannot really dodge these due to being melee. Root to prevent him from being in melee range. Attack speed slow to remove most of his damage.

Other heroes are also good against him.

I know you wrote it in a joke, but after level 13, Murky can heal by more than his HP.
