Every…single…game…is a roll. Nothing even close to an even match. One team destroys the other team every time. UR. Fix this terrible matchmaking, Blizzard.
Because no one plays this game. It is impossible to have a good matchmaker with no players.
Players have different strengths, preferred heroes and skills.
On top of that, some anomalies can completely counter your skills.
On top of that, there are luck streaks anyway. Not too frequently, but people tell about gaining or losing a whole league. Normally, that’s a point where you play with the food.
On top of that, people are learning to get better. Some people get fed up with the game and quit.
So ultimately, it is a big, complicated rock-scissor-paper including its random effects with the occasional chance to cut a rock with a scissor, or seeing a really bad scissor not cutting the paper. Just like in real life.
As a result, this last season I experienced something I never before. Instead of bouncing back from high silver, I fell mid-bronze and still didn’t feel it a tad bit easier. I mean, I don’t have to blame my teammates - I didn’t get to play with the food.
Quite possibly the quarantine mode crippled me, on top of a decision to learn good heroes (and fall out of practice on others, forced to play those due to static bans - lesson: don’t learn Tier S heroes, no point -, and countered otherwise) and probably the anomaly. And my broken hand. Still. Seen a lot of people having moved down by more than a league last season. Probably upwards, too.
to me it just seems like people just pick the best heroes and you typically win most of the time.
some counters in this game are way to strong vs certain heroes that its not even fair and a extremely bad design, that those heroes should never be match together which is how stupid this game can be at time.
One team is a premade while the the other is randoms. Blizzard and a number of these players in this community honestly believe this is a good system. Even in mid to upper diamond this is happening and its not a good back and forth trying to out play one another. Its a one sided kick in the balls every single time. When i win like this, its so boring and nothing comes from it and when I lose, i am annoyed cause someone on my team is somehow diamond but play as if they were silver.
Matchmaking is based on winrates with characters. The higher you are on a winrate above 50%, the more the game is going to try and $%^$ you. Whether that’s fighting master level enemies or sticking you with Johnny 1st game, doesn’t matter.
The game wants you as close to 50% winrate as you can get. I just played 2 games in a row that were aba illidan enemy games as my azmodan. And after 6 losses in a row I’m still 60% winrate as him. The system isn’t good because it’s bad luck protection for people who lose all the time.
I mean, this has been unproven by the game’s own history. Blizzard started making sweeping match making adjustments ~2 years ago, and it’s gone downhill massively. Even URD sucks now.
I have no idea why people keep insisting the game’s population hasn’t decreased radically. Look at the games uploaded weekly in 2016 vs. in 2020.
A “decrease” in players is a nice and polite way to put it.
Some problems that can be highlighted:
-
Various Heroes have a role that is not reflected in the practice.
-
The problem of reworked heroes that always go to extremes, and this is
reflected in the winrate. -
Those who play premade vs. those who play alone.
-
The situation of the game, being considered by actiblizzard a classic game has a
much more limited support than it had before.
This is reflected in the launch of new content (heroes, events, etc.) -
The population of the game every time is smaller.
-
Toxicity, this occurs in every online game.
Upload your reply files in hotslogs and you can find stats.
Huge mmr difference, uneven roles, hero level difference, teams vs solo, you versing your counters, list goes on.
When I played years ago, a hero league match with me at Plat 2 would look like this:
Plat 2, Plat 2, Plat 2, Plat 1, Plat 2,
vs.
Plat 2, Plat 1, Plat 2, Plat 2, Plat 2,
Now in Storm League:
Plat 2, Diamond 5, Gold 4, Gold 2, Unplaced
vs.
Plat 4, Diamond 2, Gold 3, Gold 5, Plat 1
The game can’t even match similar ranks together sometimes because not enough people play it anymore. If it can’t make decent matches at peak time like 17-21PM, when can it?
I just got an insta queue in SL against a 4 stack and lost 165 when we lost. Their average ranks were higher. In this example being Insta queue I would assume it would have found perfect balance.
Here is an example of I made in another thread. I’m sure there is issues in lots of games but in HOTS there is definitely a match making issue here. More people would obviously help but there are still issue.
But it’s far worse here than any of Blizzard’s other games.
There’s no moderation at all, and reporting players does literally nothing aside from the automated silence after far too many reports.
Just look at the general chat channels in the lobby. It’s filled with a bunch of n*zis with their endless racism and Blizzard refuses to moderate.
Pretty offtopic, but I’ll throw in some more stats.
Im not here to disagree, just saying that heroesprofile kinda took over the role of the website.

The very first thing I noticed was how much…smaller the data dumps were.
But don’t take this data as evidence that the player base has dwindled by half. If we split up total uploads by Quick Match and Draft Modes (Unranked, Hero League, and Team League), we find that draft mode uploads have not lowered quite as drastically. This means the majority of missing uploads are from Quick Match; draft mode players are more likely to be still uploading their files.
This is old, but includes period year after HGC cancellation.
They don’t know how to do it and will not fix anything. I lost hope in that topic 2 years ago and especially when they merged TL and HL and gave everybody a high rank.
True, and I use HeroesProfile now as well, but it is impossible to get a 2016 or 2015 comparison to today, because HeroesProfile didn’t exist back then. So I can’t go to archive.org and see their stats from 4 years ago.
Therefore the only way to make a comparison is using a site that still exists today as it did back then.
Of course, not every person uploads (I don’t), but one person uploading affects ten people. Hotslogs draws replays from the global HotS API. ~90% less games recorded in four years is a pretty massive drop.
Li-Ming having 110,000 games recorded per week back then compared to a couple thousand today can’t happen because a few people stopped uploading.
i mean this itself makes you racist as well, your putting all whites in that word category alone, in general chat when your 100% lies when i have to get on chat and i typically see more BLM or victim card screaming.
Self-projecting much? Where did I say anything about white people?
Looks like we’ve found one of the racist trolls boys.
so what you are saying is…
time to go to LoL where there is more ppl?
unfortuanately LoL has issues as well.
We don’t really think it’s good, we just acknowledge that alternatives are very limited for now.
