Why is the game still balanced with patchs and no new maps

Anyone else curious as to why this game is still updated and yet we dont have any new maps?

No?

Moving forward we will support Heroes in a manner similar to our other longstanding games, StarCraft and StarCraft II… …Future patches will primarily focus on client sustainability and bug fixing, with balance updates coming as needed.

It is easier to fiddle with existing numbers than it is to make a whole new map from scratch.

The janitor only has time to make a few small number tweaks every shift. They’ve got floors to go back to mopping.

To reiterate what others have already said, creating a whole new map requires far more resources than bug fixes or hero balancing.

Yet, there is room for some hope. When Blizz put Hots into deep sleep, they said Brawls would not return as they required too many resources, and yet, in the next patch Brawls are apparently back on the menu.

Honestly, I don’t think they will make a new map, but there is room to hope that perhaps they might take the time to fix Haunted Mines, as at least it already exists, even if it’s riddled with bugs and balance issues.

Would req dev resources which are no longer avalible since 2018. Hots as it is is already a finished product that you can play even if nothing new gets added. Most hereos as they are now are at thier most balanced state. You dont got any op hero that stands out like we had before.

Why would we need new maps?

Fun.

But yeah there are already some current maps to improve, especially Blackheart’s Bay and i think many people would appreciate to see once again the Haunted Mines with few tweaks.

(I’m not sure why they really removed Haunted Mines, maybe because there was a strat to almost ignore the objective and focus on the camp ? This would be so easy to prevent by making the camps disapppear during the event like they do on many other maps…)

Because nobody cares about a game with 0 players worldwide, a dying community of 30-40 years old gamer. And the biggest problem. It just makes zero fun. The game is dead. You feel it, you see it you will play it and leave it.

Trust me, some games should be gone. Dont revive dont do any, the time is over. And from this game, its over since 2018. NO ESL, NO Gives a ***. Forget it, and delete it.

Best to do

If you dont care about a game with 0 players then why are you here ?

I got the idea it was because you got more out of ignoring the objective and could get a good push in if the enemy team was foolish enough to go into the mines. I’m probably missing a lot of other reasons though.
Of course, I must be kind of wrong since most of the top players ignore the protectors until after like 15 minutes. None of the devs seem to think it needs to be removed from official play.
The haunted mines has left a good impression in my mind. I would still rather play it over most maps.

My understanding was that Brawls required too much work to maintain because they would need to be updated every time a hero was added or reworked (I think because they’re basically separate SC2 maps in disguise :stuck_out_tongue: )
So, the reason Brawls are coming back might be because no major reworks are planned in the future (and obviously no new heroes either).
… Or I misunderstood something. That happens, too.

I think a major reason for removing HM was more technical than about balance: for some reason, the portal to the mines caused bugs with a lot of heroes and abilities, and the devs had to choose between coding in edge-case fixes and exceptions for every one of them, or just drop the map. (though the gameplay problems might have influenced the decision that keeping it wasn’t worth the trouble (?))

They could have easily put some kind of “curse” that prevent players from attacking structures when the objective is up, forcing them to go on the mines. I think that was an issue really easy to fix, instead of removing the map.

Now if i remember correctly, people were actually getting like around 30 skulls in the mines and then get out to do the camps, they weren’t stupidly pushing the lanes, the priority was to do the camps to get a bonus in XP and get a push with them. As i said previously, if it was the only issue, it would have been simply cleaver to make those camps disappear during the event.

They could have also put some XP on collecting skulls. Many things ideas could have been implemented to fix that map and force people to do the objective.

I don’t see what kind of problem some heroes could have with them ? Do you have any examples ?

Maybe i see only Deathwing and Alextrazsa that can go in the sky and shoot (that would be a bit stupid inside the mines). There might be also illidan that could hunt people from the top to the underground, but that’s all i see. It’s even that much of a game breaker imo.

It was because the map caused too many bugs. I beleive Chomie had an infinite temporal loop If she activated it then moved into the mines. Things like that. As said by the previous poster it caused a lot of issues that only happened on that map.

Add to that the fact that it wasn’t exactly a player favorite, and you get the best candidate for removal.

The first version of the map was a snowball city. The Golems would reappear wherever they died. Since the strongest Golem would make it farther, the team that was ahead stayed ahead. If a fight kept going after the objective triggered, they had time to go back and clear their golem, while for the team that’s already behind, the golem spawns right on top of their structure, so every second spent figjting costs them.

Then the 2nd version encouraged players to complety ignore the objective.

Zagara, Chromie, Dehaka, and a number of other heroes had issues on that map. Mind you, I do enjoy it and play it every now and then with friends in Customs, but for people who haven’t played it before, they would have to disable a number of heroes.

I don’t remember, 'cause it was a while ago, but others have mentioned some.
The thing is, it’s not something you could “see”. They were bugs that didn’t make any sense (without being familiar with the particular “spaghetti code” of HotS, which none of us are :stuck_out_tongue: )

Yeah i read other answers, i didn’t remember all of this.

A lot of people are speculating that Hots 3.0 will happen since they are adding brawls back (along with regular monthly balance updates.)

Hots 3.0 is plausible considering the amount of work that must be put in to these updates and now brawl maintenance, is probably full time and more than one janitor could do on their lunch break. And with the layoffs that have happened over the last couple years, it’s hard to believe that someone in a leadership position would approve the work if there wasn’t a plan to resurrect the franchise in the works.

IMHO I would lean more towards something is in the works rather than lean towards the game continuing to stay in “shelved mode”, so maybe some day we will see more maps.

Why, to replace Hanamura Temple and Blackheart’s Bay, of course.

I don’t want to have false hope about the game, i also think it’s easier to bring back old content than create new ones.

But i also notice there is a new skin for Raynor which is actually hightly edited from another previous skin, it’s not only a simple swap color, so that means someone took the time to work on it. It even has mouth animation (not all most recent heroes / skins released have that).

But i would bet on a trainee at Blizzard. This would explain why there is so much fix on minor bugs.
