He’s currently ranked low tier out of all tanks and is almost never banned. What is it about Mal’ganis that makes him bad and easy to counter? Is it that all of his abilities are easy to interrupt?
Hes not that bad tho
- His CC is relatively weak compared to other warriors. Sleep is nice, but if your teammates constantly trigger the wake ups, it doesnt help. And his stun is very short.
- Just like any AA oriented healing assassin, if the healing becomes too weak, the hero becomes less popular as its harder to stay alive. And self sustain is important for a warrior that has to get up close for longer durations.
- People became used to his playstyle and ways to counter him.
- No safe getaway unless he takes a specific ulti (although more warriors have this issue and isnt specificly a downside, its just the combination of downsides).
- Poor capability to protect teammates, cant push/pull enemies/teammates out of trouble.
But even with these downsides he isnt bad, its just that atm other warriors are better. But a few small buffs can quickly make him OP again.
The funny thing is that he was basically a Bruiser AND Tank when he got released
he doesn’t stand out in any area is why
That endless knock up is miserable to play against. I’m glad he fell off in popularity.
- Mal’s range of threat is only at his hit box
- His sustain and mitigation comes during battle, so he can’t shrug of or trade against poke
- He lacks the “gotcha” of displacement effects for isolating a target for the team to focus.
A lot of Hots play has teams run loops in what is supposed to be baiting for action and Mal lacks the tools to function in that sort of play. While warriors are generally close-range heroes, even something like Stormbolt has some distance to it to threaten a zone that’s somewhat invisible around Muradin. Mal’ganis is only a threat exactly where he is standing, so its not the same intimidation felt as a garrosh or Diablo, and he has to commit his face unlike Stitches or Anub who can poke around and then fallback.
On top of that, most warriors have their sustain work even if they’re not in battle, but Mal pretty much only heals by dealing damage, so he’s narrowed into chasing or ambuch tactics that lack the flexibility of most tanks
Just not standard but I think he can be ok. Very hard to kill sometime!
He lost too much hp and sustain unless you played agaisnt dumb clumped together baddies.
He is more bearable to play with his recent buffs.
More of a nuisance than a threat really. This is why dreadlords have other people do the work for them.
Too many nerfs due to people crying that he is OP.
Following by more nerfs when he was already below 50% winrate.
And then people became used to play against him.
Also, I don’t think he fits into any composition.
Why would you pick Mal over Garrosh, Anub, Diablo?
I would even pick Johanna, Muradin, Etc or Arthas before I pick Mal.
Also his ultimates having 7 sec (and 0.75 sec) cast time makes them hard to go off in current meta, where there are CC’s over CC’s over CC’s in every game and on every hero.
My opinion is that he should be a bruiser not a tank,
he was good before nerfs, people just didn’t know how to play against him.
As someone already said, why would you pick Malganis over any other tank?
Not even other tanks, why would you pick him over Imp? or Varian? or even Tyrael and his tickle sword??
Apart from flying out of bushes with sleep and going blind as bat into 5 man death ball he’s nothing more than annoying sack of meat to deal with.
By looking into how much dmg can Imperious deal and how tanky he is Malg needs some tweaks, I think that he should be able to provide more to the team and work very well in full AA comps, maybe something to do with auras?
What do you think people what would make him better but not overtuned?
Its not that he’s bad, he’s boring. He is a real boring hero to play.
What are the game turning moments that a malganis can have, Hitting his lifesteal R at a key time. The only problem is that it can be interrupted by stuns and othe cc.
Look at his game v Maltheal they basically have the same kit, autoattacks that life steal, an aoe life steal. Their E’s are different but Maltheals kit is more dramatic. His damage scales, his R is a gauranteed kill when hit. Malganis is a big walking claw swiping tower of boredom.
Malganis isn’t bad. But he isn’t good either. Malganis is my most played tank and he can still be pretty strong. He has excellent disruption and sleep is very strong with heroes like li ming who can line up skillshots easily with it. His main issue is low dmg on his own, bad talent diversity at most tiers, and stronger competition.
Once you know how to play around him, he is really easy to punish.
