Why is everyone so rude?

I have not played this game is some time and just recently started playing again and everyone is just a troll.

And yeah, I am rusty and admit I am not the most amazing player but man most of the people I group with are just rude. Not even funny rude, rude to the point that playing a simple match is awful. I am just doing the “quick match” options and the player base is just plain mean. Often I am told just to leave the group or I am threatened to be reported as a bot. This is not always the case, just most of the games I have played lately.

What is better than playing quick matches? Should I be playing unranked games? Ranked? Should I just not play? I can handle a loss and learn from mistakes but I am also not going to put up with the bullies that I have encountered.

If anyone reads this and relates (I am not expecting much but I have to try) what do you do to get past the negativity? I would like to be proactive in this experience so if someone comments on this in a non-serious way, I will just ignore you.

Side note: my kids have asked to play this game with me if this is what the player base is currently, count us out.

Mobas are unfortunately a highly complex game and in this one you are almost completely relient on your teammates unless you’re underranked. If you play ranked and are in a place you don’t belong its hard to expect patience from teammates when matches could last 15 minutes.

Raging is still completely unacceptable. Not defending that. But you have to understand how frustrating it can be for your allies that they cannot really do anything and are trapped in game for a while,

Ppl are frustrated, and thus lash out when they don’t know how to behave better.

But not all. You will find okay ppl. But yes, there are many awful.

If you’re quite rusty but understandably don’t want to practice in VS AI (it usually teaches bad habits anyway due to how poor the AI is) how about trying ARAM?

Most people are a little more relaxed in that mode as players understand people might be offered heroes they have never played or are otherwise inexperienced with.

Many players take QM more seriously than they should, probably because ranked play has never been close in popularity with the majority of the Hots playerbase.

Since game is free to play then some people dont care how they act online. Instead of banning they should have keept the ever growing silence you get from being toxic.

This makes sense. I appreciate your response.

The answer depends on how do you play, what do you enjoy in the game.
Also the age and history of your account.

For example, if you have a small set of favorite heroes, just play them ad nauseum. Pick one, play 10-20 matches.

QM has a fairly loose ranking system short term. If you lose a lot, you’ll be placed, just go through it. It also has some adjustments, which makes it easier for new accounts and harder for veterans.

One of the adjustments relates to party size. As a team you’re considered much more skillful, being expected to sit with a coach and able to coordinate. If you can’t, it’s best to dedicate a separate account to play as a team - or you’ll autofail every match with the kids, and autowin everything solo. Then it doesn’t matter if you’re internally Bronze 4, what matters is that you’re consistently matchmade as Silver 2.

You can also turn team chat off in the settings. It’s not much useful. It works if everyone is positive, or if you have a turtle shell, ideally with a massive ego - and restraint, for many respond in kind and get banned.

From simply observing I believe this is the best, fun MOBA to play with kids, even if you end up joyriding AI.

I wouldn’t recommend ARAM, it doesn’t solve your rating problems, it doesn’t have matchmaking so if you’re subpar you’ll just lose too much, and you can’t even pick your hero. Many heroes are disabled there and it’s very often a horrible job as melee. I have a fantastic match with Xul on record where I died 15 times, only to read recently that ARAM Xul is a ranged mage, only using Q and E, it makes sense.

There’s a mute option for a reason. If you decide not to use it, that’s on you.

This opens up many options for me, thank you. I forget that you can still earn experience battling the AI.

And thanks everyone for your input, very helpful and encouraging.
