Why is every new hero legendary?

We haven’t gotten an epic hero in quite some time. What’s the point of even having hero rarity if they’re all going to be legendary now?

yeah I don’t really know why some heroes are more rare than others, they’re all supposed to be equally balanced and have relatively fair proportions of love put into them

simple, age. Look back and you will notice that sorting by release date ad sorting by rarity are synonymous, the hero becomes “less rare” once they get older.

It’s mostly a matter of when the hero was released.
New heroes are always 15k gold, then 10k gold two weeks later.

Helps with sales of the new hero, if they’re legendary they’re less likely to drop from lootboxes so you’re incentivized to spend gems.

because how can the new hero be broken and OP if they don’t charge accordingly?

Hero rarity is unique. It’s not about “quality”, it’s about how new the Hero is and a bit about how hard that is.
That’s why every new Hero is legendary. So ppl don’t have high chance to open it (since there are gold for it and they want real-money purchases ofc).
It helps with queue times (if everyone could excess the new Hero easily everyone would try to play as it and we won’t find matches).
You won’t see “epic” Hero releases and that’s fine. They’ll drop by time (unless they’re really hard like Medivh, TLV and so on).

Not true, thrall was the last hero before beta ended he also was the last non legendary hero, there were legendary heroes before his release as well.

Well, the system is simply supposed to slowly make heroes less rare, and hence cheaper…

But price reductions have happened so rarely compared to 2-3 years ago… :expressionless:

That’s true for most but not for all. There are still a few “hard” heroes from the earlier years that are counted as legendaries even though heroes released after them are only epic.

They still do stealth price drops. Gul’dan, Zarya, Alarak, and Ragnaros were all dropped to Epic at some point (I guess they decided Xul, Dehaka, Tracer, Chromie, Medivh, Auriel, Samuro, and Varian all deserve to be Legendary). It’s just… a very slow process. We only just now finished 2016.

Play rates play a big determination on what heroes are on what rarity levels. Also what heroes gain skins and which ones don’t.

the older heroes are considered more “common” since they have been around longer. they’re also considered in a way to be the “staple” characters. this used to mean “simple & easy” but these days every hero has a lot of flavour game play wise, tho since they are more well known, it’s also better for ur team. they’re more likely to be familiar with the “common” heroes.

I guess it’s because of sales (Legendary hero = 750 gems instead of 300 gems for example)

Every hero they’ve released since late 2014 has been legendary. Don’t know why’d it’d be expected otherwise at this point. Been one of the few things that hasn’t changed.

I don’t see any problem with new heroes being listed as legendary. 10k gold is nothing but pocket change for people playing regularly. In fact, I have seen a lot of people sitting on a mountain of gold. Some even complain that there is nothing else for them to spend those gold for except rerolling lootboxes. I have seen a streamer with over half a million once.

But of course, there’s gonna be people that prefer to do nothing, but still expect life to give them everything. When things don’t go their way, they just whine like a sore loser.

Because it’s the new hero.

Legendary doesn’t mean anything except bigger price tag, everyone wants to try or see the new hero, so it costs more. Not hard to understand.

You could google for an answer rather than posting this. There are a few reasons for it though:

-regardless of cost heroes should be balanced gamplay wise
-cheaper heroes are cheap to help new players to build up their roster faster
-cheaper heroes are usually easier to play to provide a smoother learning curve
etc etc
