Why Exp Globes are Rough

I agree that the previous arrangement is simpler under the assumption that the players in a given match are prone to being soak-conscious to begin with. In that case, sure, sitting in a bush is great! But experience suggests that this assumption is very often not the case. As is, as long as someone swings by before the globes vanish entirely, they’ll get some experience.

I like the way exp globes work.

Can’t argue it was probably simpler be4 though.

Like people literally would just stand behind the gate and not do anything and still get xp. It didn’t matter what hero they chose. In fact, a lot of people when the change happened got so incensed because they argued X heroes couldn’t soak anymore. So I don’t understand a lot of your rationale.

As a side note, I find that people who use the term “mindless ARAMing” probably focus on the wrong things on where to improve. That’s generally like a bronze or silver concern.

What can I say: I play solo QM and most people just zerg mid or fight over nothing. So I soak my brains out, even if my hero’s waveclear is bad (i.e., swing into the empty lanes between skirmishes to pick up globes). All that experience would otherwise have been missed. Simple. /shrug

I mostly solo queue in QM also, but I don’t look at a fight as over nothing. Some fights are stupid, but that depends on a variety of factors. Any fight you win potentially gives you something.

Not saying I prefer one way or another, just that it was much simpler before. You either got the XP from the huge range, or you didn’t. None of this, if you come within a certain range with in a certain time, you get x amount, and then you can partial amount within another time frame. It’s more things to keep track of, and adds complexity, which can be a good thing too.

It was always in one’s best interest to keep track of soak, so I don’t think there is actually more to keep track of, per se – but now there is more slack. Anyone can recoup some of the soak lost from an unwitting team (or a failed team fight) by sweeping through the lanes. Maybe what I am calling ‘simple’ is better expressed as ‘forgiving’?

Before. You’re not there when minons die, you get nothing.

Now: You have 30 days to come back and get your xp globes. And you can actually see the xp.

There is still some strategy though because you get way more soak if you get the globes within a certain timeframe.

When they get small you get less soak.

I like it because you can see the soak you are collecting so you would think it encourages more newer players to collect it.

Also adds complexity because you could try and deny an opponent soak while the globes give full exp.

Can give you a decent advantage even early game, getting to 7 or 10 before other team before a fight for example.

The small xp globes are borderline useless. It’s just an indication you missed the xp.

How much are they worth compared to large globes?

Small exp globes give 25% of the original globes value.

At the start of the game a exp globes will spawn with 80 experience (+2 every minute), after 6 seconds it will shrink to a small exp globe worth 20 experience (+ 0.5 every minute).

Tomb of the spider queen uses a different starting value (which I can’t remember off the top of my head) but keeps the same growth rate of +2 or +0.5 experience for large and small globes.

Well, I still think 25% xp is better than “You didn’t see that minion die so you get nothing

I guess Spider queen’s globes are worth less?
