why does dev ignore Chen? do they think he is balanced?

If anything Chen needs a nerf.

Yea the hero is as oppressive as ever. we finally need some CC in this game to counter his trait.
and also he needs -10% health cos he’s got a coat.
He is one of those heroes that is in a very odd spot as I understand it.
Where buffing his numbers enough to make him “balanced” would result in him being oppressive against many heroes.
Don’t know if this is true, just my (shaky) understanding.
He’s pretty much the Warrior version of Illidan.
They might hold him in lower priority due to his low popularity, but that’s kind of a catch-22. If he’s unpopular because he needs buffs, then that’s kind of their fault.
Alternatively, maybe players who are experienced with Chen are doing just fine with him, and Blizzard has determined that buffs would actually break the hero in their hands. This is well known for heroes like Genji or Medivh, where most of the player population sucks at them, but it is accepted that skilled players can use them to dominate.
I don’t play Chen, so I don’t know which the answer is. I do lean toward the latter though, as any skilled Chen I run into tends to be pretty dominant. I would guess that he’s just a difficult hero to learn, but performs well when played well.
Its more that if the team does not draft any stuns and has a squishy back line you can dominate.
The last season I played ranked I had like 7 games with chen for 100% win rate. That was out of 500 games.
The other team has to screw up bad in the draft.
There’s a thing called queue or priorities. Be patient. Just like Tassadar, Chen is getting reworked.
Because to truly fix Chen will require an extensive hero rework, likely far greater than the Sylvanas and Stitches changes which are pretty much changing how their current abilities function slightly.
He is a channel for defense character, his whole kit.
The game has devolved to a cc game. Every character has 1 or 2 cc options lately.
I think the devs have no idea what to do with him. He should be a bruiser, but has no slow, stun, anything. You buff him more, he becomes unkillable. You nerf him more, he becomes trash. Also to keep his identity and unique drink mechanic, they just can’t change him so easily
same reason why they ignore many heroes such as valla. They dont really care about heroes unless they are in the meta which is the problem.
May need a mechanical change to his trait. I really like the idea of his chug and slug play style, but as long as he has to channel his ability to tank he’s going to be very easy to exploit.
Chen is the new Raynor.

Yeah I know he isnt for the pro scene, but in QM his playstyle is fun.
Someone mentioned maybe just make soft CC not interrupt his drink. Probably would help a lot.
Yeah, had a game earlier today with someone who was crushing us with Chen. After game checked, level 127 Chen. Of course, and hero can be very strong when piloted by someone who puts that much time into them.
But it’s a game that if it happened often I would have to jump to “nerf chen”. I don’t think he needs a nerf. But if he was buffed to have a 50% winrate in QM… Oh man. He would be so busted.
it often takes a while for the team to decide it’s time to rework an old character. we finally got Raynor earlier this year but people were asking for a rework for much much longer as an example.
There’s a huge lack of transparency when it comes to the dev team so we’ll never know exactly why reworks take so long, especially since we aren’t told until the hero is almost ready for PTR.
Chen is the hero they look at when the balance team is depressed about something and want a punching bag.
