Archon also buffs Resonance Beam though and reduces enemy spell armors so your teammates have an easier time killing them.
You do lose the AA bounces though (if your lv1 was finished), but RB will splash to everyone nearby.

It will splash, even if you take another talent on level 1. You might even have higher Q damage, or better W as well, if you do that.
It’s a good survival skill. Instant shield + full resonance charge which will activate the lvl 4 shield talent.
And some people might not like the other ult.

True, but you don’t lose a huge amount of your lv1 RB quest power if you take Archon. It also gives a good shield.
You also can’t drop from 100% Resonance charge while Archon is on.
The shield comes from the level 4 talent, not from the level 1. While one can argue, that it’s an AA talent, I take it even when I go Q or W build, unless I don’t think that I’ll need the extra survivability.
It’s not that you lose power, it’s just that your talent is “blank” while you’re in Archon, and after level 20, you may stay in Archon form for quite a while.
I don’t mean the stacking plasmashield though, he gets a 25% max HP shield from Archon itself.

The ultimate is sort of forced on Archon since you have to choose between a hard to hit skillshot and a buffed form of Tassadar. Black Hole is a risky pick which can either be a game changing ult or a non existing ult. Archon is a much safer ult which constantly gets value.
Basically Im saying I dont think the build has anything to do with the ult choice at all.

Because AA build Tass is a troll build, that’s why they pick Heroic that ruins their own build.

Archon isn’t permanent and AA lvl 1 gives an edge in the early game.

Archon is a nice boost to his survival kit. Who can stand to fight an Archon?
Imagine having a permanent archon how busted tass would be, but probably still hated by sadius.
Archon is great for survival, bonus spell damage and the 20 upgrade is nuts. I think Black hole is really good but you can miss with it. Compared to the solid value archon gives it’s easy to see why archon gets picked more. I will take black hole for my AA build but only if I feel like I can land it consistently. An enemy team with low mobility or allies with strong setups help a lot. Otherwise the only reason to take black hole is for peel and even then I mostly use it get a sticky enemy off me.
Plenty of heroes can. I’d gladly take on Archon 1 v 1 with half of the hero pool
