Who should I be giving Morales' StimDrone to?

I always pick StimDrone for Morales’ ultimate, but I never really know who I should target with it. What usually happens, is we’re in a team fight, I panic, and just give it to whoever looks like they are doing damage. Half the time, the hero I give it to just leaves the team fight cause they’re at half-health or something.

I feel like it gets wasted.

Should I always give it to a certain role, like assassins or tanks? Or just ask my team who I should give it to?

Thanks.

Not pro level, but there are some basic things when you’re using the Stim Drone.

First, the most notable feature of the Drone is the boost to attack speed. Look for and target characters like Raynor, who primarily deal a lot of their damage through their standard attack. Generally Assassins are the types of characters to target with the Drone… but while AA heroes like Raynor or Vallah are good, other assassins like Li Ming or Jaina won’t get any benefit at all because they’re focused on doing damage through spells.

Second, the boost lasts till it expires, or the character it’s used on gets killed. I always have a cascade of abilities that go off when I’m using the ult. Stim Drone, Safeguard, and switch the healing beam to the ally hopped up on whatever I just injected him with. While hopefully things aren’t so dire, there’s little point dropping a Stim Drone and just abandoning the character to their fate.

If you poke around the web, you should find a few guides out there like Icy-veins that will give a breakdown of the various ults and give you some better info.

Think, “Who benefits the most from having increased AA?” Both based on hero as well as talents. A valla who has gone Hungering Arrow build (not very likely with a morales around though) wouldn’t have as much use out of as a Zuljin (And zuljin is a great target for it with his attack speed and tazdingo craziness). A Zeratul who has gone AA build (which also give lifeleech) can make great use of it.
Surprisingly Genji is a somewhat bad target for it, since in teamfights he rarely relies on doing ‘a lot of AA damage’. It’s good for a smalle skirmish though.

Also think of heroes who use AA’s in a different manner; Muradin for instance. He has a level 7 talent that stuns every third AA and his AAs reduce the CD on his stun.

Ranged can make more use out of it than a melee, but it all depends on the situation. It’s best used in a situation where your target is unfocused and is unleashing damage; putting it on a half hp guy and you’re likely to have the situation you described if it’s too dangerous to go near with half health.

And obviously if there’s an illidan you use it on illidan.

In emergencies you can use it on anyone as it gives movement speed. Especially at 20. Short cooldown and great movement speed buff.

Stim Drone gives 75% increased attack speed and movement speed. Therefore, it should be given to the hero on your team with the strongest basic attacks. Excellent choices are:

Raynor
Valla
Zul’Jin
Greymane
Illidan
Sgt. Hammer
Thrall
Tracer

That said, you shouldn’t always use Stim Drone. The Medivac is a great ultimate as a movement option but also as an escape tool. If you’re being focused down and in a bad position you can use Medivac to escape or give you a couple seconds for your team to respond. Try it out if you have not.

Pretty much any AA hero should be getting stim drone, if there aren’t any AA heroes on your team chances are you should be grabbing medivac as an escape/global for rotating around the map better.

Generally you want to use stim on range assassin heroes who rely heavily on their AA to deal damage, example Raynor, Greymane or Tychus… Use it when they have space to freely dish out damage to opponent’s front line.

Melee AA assassins dive to back line like Illidan, Tracer, full stacked Butchers… are also great targets, but you need to stim them just right before major fights. It’s unlikely you can dive with them and press R without blowing up.

Tanks wave their AA here and there can also be decent if stimmed. Artanis, Zarya or even Rexxar’s Misha are noticeable heroes. Usually you need to see their talents to determine they are good to stim or not. AA build Diablo or life leech Leoric are tough to take down if their AA speed is boosted.

This also applies to mage assassin as well, like Q build Alarak, AA build Hanzo/Falstad or mecha lord Gaz. Take note that in case Zuljin goes W build or Valla picks hunger arrow talents, their basic AA deal considerable damage so it’s not a bad idea to stim them.

Remember always go for the best player on your team. If you have a god-tier Artanis and an always overextended Laynor, paint the Hierarch blue and watch him wrecks back line. When hesitating whether you should take stim or not, ask your team if any of them needs this awesome drug is a good call.

If you’re automatically picking Stim Drone, you’re not playing smart. And if you don’t have a general idea of who you’re going to stim before the game starts, are you just blind picking her in draft?

You should generally be giving it to heroes who have the most synergy with their AA. This is different for every hero. I used to remember this Morales kept stimming this Anub, instead of me as a Tyrande, who had stacking AA damage, and increased heals from AA.

However, if there are no good stim targets and there is lots of dive and/or lots of blinds and CC, there’s no shame in getting Medivac.

Give it to the Hero with the highest AA dmg/dps or to your ally you want to be able to chase their targets.
But if you don’t have allies with good AA dmg, and it’s not a small map, pick Medivac imo.

As previously mentioned, warriors aren’t always a bad choice, depending on how the fight is set up. Artanis is a lovely Stim target (no, no bias here, what do you mean? :P), as it not only increases his damage, but his sustain through his trait. Varian, Dehaka (if using the CDR talent), Tyrael, and Leoric are also decent Stim targets.

And of course, there is always the Stimmed Cho’gall nonsense.

Stim drone isn’t always the right choice. There are several comps where no one can use it.

On large maps, Medevac usually gives you an advantage.

Ok, thanks for the input everyone!

Anything that can shoot fast with right clicking while also deals a lot of damage.

However it’s not always the case as stil drine csn also help improve different functionalities that requires basic attacks to execute properly, like mephisto’s level 1 that reduces CD of his abilities.

Always stim Abathur if he is nearby.

If you don’t know who to use it on just pick Medivac and use it like a psuedo Ice Block/Escape/self mobility tool.

Don’t think you have to use it as a pro 1337 5 man rotation ability.
