Who Else *Hates* the Movement Changes?

I don’t like one single thing about it. Not one.

The SINGLE BIGGEST thing I hate is how all characters feel like they’ve got a lucio speedbuff. You’re skating around when you’re walking, and it feels weird. Surely a ton of thought went into base movespeed when the game was conceived? To throw in a movespeed change is a HUGE change. So many abilities are based on it.

But I’ve also gone and made a brief list of other things I hate. Please feel free to list your own. I’ll add more as the thread progresses. Hopefully the devs will realize the terrible design decision they’ve made. It’s utterly horrible.

  1. It encourages thoughtless play.
  2. There is less of a punish for bad positioning.
  3. Less time spent rotating between lanes for characters…
  4. = less ability to solo lane
  5. and more reliance on clump as a deathball.
  6. Early-game deaths already don’t count for squat. Now they matter even less.
  7. The zerg-y feel of early game objective fights just increased.
  8. Overwatch heroes already are ‘too’ mobile for some peoples’ liking. Now everyone is too mobile.

Stop trying to make this game into Overwatch, where everyone has short respawn times and can get back into the action instantly. There needs to be a penalty for deaths, a penalty for getting caught in an AOE, a penalty for being out of place. The concept of ‘downtime’ is important for MOBAs and games in general.

Edit: Here is Blizzard’s reply on Reddit’s AMA.

Hello Tyragon!

Ever since we pulled the camera out, the game has felt a little bit slower. We had actually begun testing it right after making that change and have been playing with it internally ever since.

All of our design and balance playtests were being played at this speed and every time we would swap back to live, the game just felt a bit…well, slow. Since we were actively balancing Heroes and Reworks with the new speed, we needed to make a call to either slow back down the testing branch or bring the speed increase to live. The team felt like the increased speed made the game more fun overall, so we pulled the trigger and shipped it.

All this said, we are also very aware that there will be some balance fallout from it. We are keeping a close eye on any significant changes in all the Heroes performances, and will definitely make changes as needed!

Instead of making the testers change to live, because they found it “fun,” we all get the +10%.

I’m also wondering if these same testers have found it fun for the past several years to have more of their skillshots miss. I for one find it very fun when my Artanis’ Purifier Beam whiffs by default, or when my Zarya ult fails to land because 3 heroes all scatter just in time. Or when my Orphea Q gets sidestepped that much easier, every time. Chromie. Valla’s Hungering Arrow.

Did the testers find it more ‘fun’ to have snaring heroes skewed to the better? Arthas already has a very high winrate at high MMRs due to his control and sustain. Did the testers have fun losing 60% of their games to him?

“Fun,” guys. Anyone having more fun with these changes?

i don’t. because i’ll get used to it same to you it’s not the end of the world after all.

I also don’t like, especially because there was nothing wrong with how it was before and there was not real reason to change it.

It also changes too many things in the game balance aspect, which is something Blizzard still struggles on doing. Now they need even more time to balance things out.

if it doesn’t work out they’ll change it back again? but i’m curious cause i didn’t see complaints about the movement speed increase before. or i missed threads of people asking for it?

Idk about that tbh. Blizzard is just too inconsistent when it comes to listening to the playerbase. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don’t (even when everyone is asking for them to revert something back).

so it’s just them wanting to try out new stuff without anyone requesting them?

Not a fan. No need. Change for the sake of change, hurting some characters more than others in the meantime.

I’ve barely even noticed it.

I wouldn’t even say that this is the problem. It really seems like a change for the sake of changing without even thinking about the consequences. Look at how many threads talking about it and how many things it affected.

What is even worse is them saying “the change is here and we’ll see the consequences later and adjust accordingly”. Like… Do they not know the consequences? Couldn’t they just hold the change and update everything at the same time?

ok with that i agree. if they just saved it to update everything at once would have been much better than doing it like this.

I agree, especially with the consequences part.
It feels like someone just threw in the change without thinking.

Didn’t notice that much of a change but i haven’t played pvp yet.

Honestly, I played 4 SL matches this morning, and didn’t notice it at all. But I am old and oblivious half the time. Hitting Blessed Shield with JoJo, or swaps with Artanis, didn’t feel any different at all.

The onl difference to me is that its easier to dodge Li Ming Balls and Azmo shots.

I have adjusted to it and doesnt effect my play, if you play a hero with skill shots, you have to learn to aim ahead of your target sometimes, also most of the player base has tunnel vision so thats why alot of heroes are doing well, cause many lack good reaction times.

Exactly why there is such a deviation between Higher Ranks

I don’t notice any changes for myself or other players, either, mages are still top damage.

You’d have to be barely hitting people pre-change to really notice a difference. My money is skilled skillshotters will still always hit most of their shots.

Played a lot of Naz last night and tbh I still hit most of my shots and landed most of my walls.

I honestly only think it affects people at lower end of the game where some skill shots just got more mileage than they do in higher brackets. Azmo and KT coming to mind.

I feel like it will just make these heroes less oppressive in the lower brackets and maybe make the game better there.

I think the change was a positive one so far.

The weird thing is… I actually had some thoughts about asking for a walk speed buff, but since I wouldn’t be able to back up why, I just simply left this in my head without making a thread.

At first, it did feel weird, but in the third game I wasn’t able to notice it.
I like the change so far.

pretty much… lucio’s base speed buff is pretty negliable too. its just a bit faster so its like ya you will catch a normal speed person…but its not really that fast.

on the other hand lucio with amp it up is 35% move speed change which is very noticeable.

It’s far more complicated than that. Fast skillshots are not what we need to worry about, people can adjust for that.

It’s stutterstepping and delayed AoEs that are going to take the real hit from this change, and there isn’t much room to adjust to the changes on that front.

No one was asking for changes like this, and most of the people I’ve seen comment on it has been either worried or upset about the change since it was made. As people play more, it seems more of the people who were only worried are actually unhappy now rather than deciding they like it.

It’s actually +30%.

The passive speed boost used to be 20% and Amp It Up used to be 45%. Up the Tempo increased that up to 60%.

God, and I thought landing Kel’Thuzad skillshots was tough enough now, what with how people were already able to run out of them easily enough if they have any self awareness. Welp, he was fun while my little obsession lasted.
