Which character fits like a glove?

There’s an expression in the South Korean fighting game community, it goes something like “tsonemata” but it roughly translates to “the character fits your hand” or “the character fits like a glove.”

It’s about finding the character in whatever fighting game you’re playing that you identify most with both on a character/lore-level and on a gameplay level.

It’s like the character was made for you.

Who is that hero for you in HotS?

Zagara. I love insectoid alien hive mind archetypes and strength in numbers principles. Just overwhelm your opponents with sheer unending barrage of underlings. I love her ambition, her viciousness, and her character development in the lore post LotV.
And I like playing Summoner type characters because they make me feel less alone while playing.

Kael’thas or Brightwing. Though as of late my keys don’t seem to work like 10% of the time, which is super frustrating.

Zeratul

The wise, the dark but righteous, the mysterious, the powerful, the one with dark past, the seeker of the deepest secrets, the one who experienced lots of pain, the rejected, the guilty for his old sins…

The tricky, complex, unpredictable, awesome.

My beloved character of Starcraft. I was once good Zeratul in HotS, but after years of depression, I’m lacking mental capacities to properly play him again. Zera needs high-functioning mind to win. I hope I will regain my mental powers one day, to lead my Zera to win again.

I’m Lunara main, but in the perfect world, I would be Zeratul main of Kure-like skill :] .

As someone obsessed with balance, probably would have been Tassadar. Someone who is able to balance both the Khala and the Void and find value and synthesis from both. Respecting both the healing and damage aspects.

Someone self reliant, but also deeply intertwined to help his allies no matter how bad they might seem because their success is my success. To be able to illuminate those around him to give more clarity to their allies and not be fooled by shoddy perceptions and misinformation.

A playstyle that encouraged a high skill floor. To bolster people’s vitality proactively and cycle through abilities quickly, but giving them the tools to be stronger and help themselves. Having a command of the psionics to manipulate the battlefield, both yet again with balance–to box in and vanquish those that would do harm as well as protect those that are fleeing.

Then they reworked him to no longer be able to solo heal. And reworked him again where he has no shields, and now he is pew pew lasers, and now I hate looking at him because it makes me sad. Thanks Blizz!

Stitches. I’m not burdened by motives tbh, irl either. Sure I have the usual responsibilities of getting a good education, maybe in a field i enjoy, to get money and start a family late on, like they cycle of life basically.

But I don’t like that many things and I’m not fixated on doing one thing. I have big philosophical ideas in my private time and I have
the personality of someone who can change the world according to the personality test, but its so tiring because the world is one big mess. Helping people out became my sidequest but i don’t really have any main quest if yk what I mean.

That’s why I feel like Stitches, because really I just like to like the present. It’s cool to have fun and disconnect from the mess that is the world to live a quiet life. Maybe its wrong but I won’t dedicate all my life to helping the world from the mistakes of others because I will be majorly disappointed. I’ll do what I can to be good, and focus on liking what’s in my life.

Samuro.

  1. I practiced Kendo and Aikido. The first times I stayed alone at home overnight, I slept with one of my 竹刀 “Shinai”. I took care of them from splintering and molding. Not many of the Blademaster’s look translated to Kendo, but my most memorable matches involved subtlety, ruse and agility (often by an opponent). Much like Samuro, I respect good plays from opponents rather than calling for OPness.

  2. I mained Orcs in WC3 and although I wasn’t one of those to 100% pick the Blademaster (as many abused the % chance to critical strike and memorizing the maps +atk items to virtually 1HKO things), I had the most success on a blademaster named after a Japanese Battleship: Mikasa.

  3. My friends know me for a playstyle that involves me sort of tormenting my adversary. Sometimes winning wasn’t my ultimate goal, but more examining how far they would go to win themselves. I had won a 4 hour 4v4 game where all my teamates had given up, and the enemy couldn’t find the one farm I had built. Needless to say. Samuro in HotS provide me with the best tools to do that… though winning now does interest me  .

The fastest point win in Kendo I fell victim to was 1 second. I had learned the trick myself too.

Diablo

zuljin for me, the rush when he hits faster and faster, heavier and heavier give me adrenaline rush. high stake high reward, engaging to play with, all rounded hero that can survive better, do both physical and spell damage, flashy etc.

Abathur, I learned to play for him in literally an hour - the great experience of strategic games from childhood and adolescence affected: СС, Red Alert, Total Annihilation, Starcraft, Warcraft, etc. Apart from the copy, this is one of the reasons why I became a flex.

I enjoy playing a fair amount of heroes (most of the healers and tanks and some bruisers, assassins and supports) but I can’t say I feel like anyone fits me like a glove. I do enjoy some more than others, though.

First of all, Stukov. I really like his spreading healing but I guess Bio-Kill Switch is the main reason - he just clenches his zerg fist and BOOM, all of his team is healed to near full and one to three enemy heroes, maybe even all of them if it’s somehere in a tunnel, get a massive slow. Russian powaaa!.. or is it Ukranian powaaa?.. Also like his accent and voice lines.

Second, Malfurion. That grandpa’s healing is just crazy, especially with Moonlit Harmony and Lunar Shower, while also being extremely reliable. And I’m not even great with landing Moonfires! Somehow. Dunno how. It’s an aoe point-and-click. Yet I miss them often. Kinda scary to think how much healing he’ll be puping into his team when he’s played by someone who’s actually great with him. Although, despite how easy it is, most Malfurions I see are pretty darn terrible at healing. Also the murderous broccoli is kinda cool.

Third, Ana. Same reason as Malfurion, crazy healing (although requires a bit more effort and screw all them Lunara and Tracer teammates. Also best grandma. Although, like with Malfurion, most Anas i meet are pretty darn terrible at healing. Probably too busy stacking that trait quest, being grossly out of postiotn and dying.

Johanna. I won’t lie, I love warrior girls with shields. Also love being a tank who can shrug off things that will kill regular squishy teammates and be a living bastion for them. And the changes to her other heroic, the non-captain-America one, with Unstoppable for allies just made me love her more. I won’t lie, I love warrior girls with shields who protect their friends and allies.

Imperius. Just like the way I play him - get off a WQE combo, deal significant burst damage with that, then either press the advantage or fall back and wait for another engage opportunity depending on how the situation is. He’s a jerk though. Don’t like that part of him.

Yrel. Not exactly sure why, I just like her a lot. Also love using the “Hammer down!” line when leaping. And that she, like Imperius, can be played as a tank to an extent. Imperius being a more aggressive one and Yrel being great at peeling (yeah, she can be very aggressive but I usually stay closer to my team being ready to peel).

Abathur. Very unique gameplay. And as a support player, I absolutely love the ability to help any ally on the map with Symbiote, no matter where they are. Also, my first match of a game session tends to lag a lot in the beginning so I start every session with either an Abthur QM or a vs AI so my lag doesn’t have as much of an impact as is could. I don’t mind that, I like playing Abathur.

TLV. Very unique too although I only play them vs AI. Too slow and too little map awarness, pretty sure against people I’d be dying a lot. And also have to rely on luck in QM to get a three lane map. Gotta try some day though.

Zarya. I won’t lie, I love buff girls. Although Zarya is a bit too buff so it doesn’t really apply to her. But I love her shields that protect teammates.

Anduin. Good inspiring handsome guy. All nice n’ stuff. I like nice people. Absolutely love his “We stand as one!” line when using salvation although I usually pick the bomb.

Used to play Morales and Li Li a lot but as my opponents got better I couldn’t get enough value out of them to be satisfied with my performance so…

i did have fitting like glove heroes in Overwatch though.

Brigitte from a character perspective. Was watching her Defender highlight intro, and when she reached to the viewer and smiled I was just: “Alright. I’m in love now”. Aaand I’m pretty sure she’s the one who set my love for buff warrior girls with shields who protect others in motion. Also, I love ponytails becasue of her and Adora. Used to be shoulder-length hair person. And it only started from a character perspective, I eventually fell in love with her defender playstyle too. Too bad it lasted less than a year and a half.

Mercy from a gameplay perspective. Harmless (unless pulls her pistol out, and i won a bunch of duels with it but I’d usually use Guradian Angel to gtfo), sticks to allies no matter what and heals the heck outta 'em and her ult, Valkyrie, although competeing with Brigitte’s Rally for the title of the weakest support ult and ult in general, pupmed that up so I liked her ult too. Except the voice line should be “I will watch over you!” instead of 'Heroes never die!" The second one should be on rez. And the first one used to be on Valkyrie. Dunno why the changed that, it fits better. Mercy really watches over her team and her ult turns it up to eleven. And I love that watching over my team. Also the ability to almost be everywhere at once thanks to Guardian Angel. Even had a match once where the other support, Moira, literally said that I’ve been everywhere. I gotta say, that was about the ony time I trusted the second support to keep the team alive so I could venture off with a flanking dd. So part of the credit for me being everywhere in that match goes to Moira.

Moira from a gameplay-ish perspective too. Don’t particulary love her or her gameplay, but I loved the sheer power of her healing. She was my “alright, imma bring my team through flippin’ hell” pick. That is, until her healing got butchered and she began rivaling Brigitte for the title of the worst support and hero in general although Brigitte has been holding that title long before Moira joined the competition. Not that it affected me much because by then I’m pretty sure I quit Overwactch because of how much it has degraded. At most got back during events just to get cosmetics and then got out til the next one but now I don’t bother even with that unless it’s Archives or Halloween that have PvE missions, They’re not particulary awesome and have terrible replay value but it’s the only time I can play once one of my favorite games without getting depressed because of how hard it sucks now.

Well, my Li Li leather gloves fit real good.

Orphea seems to be one that I enjoy playing because I can keep a distance away and attack at close. I make lots of mistakes when it comes to making engagements. This hero lets me do both and at least be useful.
Her dance mechanic is a nice indicator of how often I land my skills. When I miss, I have to deal with the consequences and that pushes me to improve.

Deathwing.
I’m 50, I have permanent nerve damage in my hands and have had 2 surgeries on them. I have about a 500ms response time now from brain to actual motor control.
DW allows me to ignore most of the fast response time actions required. If I’m a little to slow stepping out of Deckard stun, it doesn’t matter. Any other character I’m a pretty big hinderance in team fights. I miss skill shots, I miss evades, I am ok at stutter stepping, but 20 years ago it was much better in FPS type games.
So I stomp around as DW most matches. He allows me to think about my actions since they all have a delay before activating and a slight miss-position isn’t a death due to how my armor works.

My other go to is LiLi. I don’t have to skill shot her healing like on Anna, or even target someone like on Morales. The only aimed shot is my snake and that’s not to bad since I can stay back and heal which lets me avoid most front line fights.

TLV, you play your own strategy game

Medivh. I look like him and act in similar ways. Stepping up to do the job when necessary, otherwise guiding others, tge new gen. I also have my own inner demons.

I also resonate with Malthael (did nothing wrong), Tyrael (my justice sense) and Imperius (my mentioned inner demons).

Whelp, I have many characters I was immediately good with.
Like Malthael, Imperius, Leoric, Butcher.
And others I quickly got the hang of, like Diablo, Ragnaros, Alexstrasza, Uther.

Medivh was slower but I think because of the 10-15 fps I played with for years (toaster pc with wifi). But now I have no issues with my pc and my winrate risen.

For me it’s character wise Dehaka.
Grumpy, cunning and (how I’m imagining him) kind hearted. He would do everything for his pack to survive and getting stronger.

Gameplay wise it’s more difficult.
I love to play the three dragons (Alex, DW and Chromie).
But on the other hand it’s probably Orphea. The hero with imo best set of talents and abilities.
Being able to duell nearly all other heroes feels very powerful.
Being a force to reckon with in team fights also. Her power spike with eldritch conduit at level 20 is bonkers.

Junkrat for me, he doesn’t have the most damage, nor does he have the most cc.
but when i play him there is a fairly good chance that my team will win :ok_hand:

Qhira for me as Im sure anyone who’s talked to me could guess

A big reason for it is she feels like she’s mobile but because of the limitations on said mobility she can still be balanced while feeling like she has the raw power it takes to stun her opponents with a kick to the face.

And her dry wit when it comes to many of her kill lines just makes me swoon, a woman after my own heart “Simple stubtraction” and “Time’s up” Will never get old

And the fact her sword sounds like a lightsaber is just an added bonus
