Whenever you play a new game, what kind of characters do you look to play?
Personally, I’m an “armored to the teeth” type with a focus on strength. Also crosses over to mechs and power suits.

Help with everything what I can.
Or
FIGHT WITH ME UNTIL DEATH!
Well considering my favorite characters/games and how similar they are.
I think “Time” alone suits me.
Generally I go for casters. Sometimes a bit of a hybrid, like the mesmer in guild wars 2. Less typical mage/wizard, more necromancer/witch doctor/warlock. If it’s an option in a multiplayer game, I’ll probably end up on a support class.
Characters that don’t break like twigs.
I hate playing glass cannon characters that have no way of healing themselves or/and don’t have any mobility.
I don’t even know, i main Peach in smash but here i main the edgelord of Alarak… I guess I main technical characters regardless his/her aperance.
This is my general pick up when I first look at games with a similar setup. In other words maybe MMO, MOBA, ARPG if it has a ‘support’ class, and other kinds of things like that.
Note: this is assuming “group” play. in groups I tend to be really good in healer and tank positions. in solo play i just play whatever.
.1 Healer
.2 Tank
.3 Ranged Damage
.4 Stealth Assassin
.5 Melee Damage
…
Support/healers… or the really well, annoying characters.
I like supporting… no, you cannot steal me to queue with you.
Glass cannon sneaky types.
Other than this game, stealth and sneaky games are my favorites.
I like to be the menace in the shadows.
yay a fun thread
I’d say it depends on the game/setting, but I suppose that’s a non-answer.
I usually go for 2 handed melee dps So I guess
fits me too?
I’m also a fan of your standard mage alternatively. But like I alluded to before, it’s different if we’re playing a sci-fi game(since I mainly pick by flavour and concept), especially with most/all ranged stuff. I guess I go for those with access to a lot of weapons or bringing a lot of raw firepower.
In FFXIV I my favourite classes were BLM and WAR. In WoW it was a warlock from TBC-Wrath then arms warrior from late-wrath to me quitting permanently. In SWG I switched between jedi and bounty hunter.
Whatever type I consume, I become!
I mostly play what I want. I was on a chromie kick but after being the teams primary damage output to the point where I was either at every single pointless fight or we’d lose 3 people that didn’t know how to just not fight, I now play background characters or am trying to. Stuff like xul and gazlowe.
The “Burst Enchanter” type Healer
Burst Dmg + Healing + Ways to enchant allies or self
That is my fav role type for all games
I prefer to play characters that are self-sufficient and won’t be instantly exploded if they are caught out on their own. I play melee more than ranged, with the exception of healers/support. For example, my two most played characters in WoW are a druid and a paladin, and in HotS, Artanis by a long shot.
I give every hero a fair shake, but the ones I’m best at are the small and crafty. The kind of character that eeks their value not by brute force, but careful positioning and outmaneuvering. Junkrat, Fenix, Tracer, Lord Admiral Murkimus, that type.
Also Yrel. That one doesn’t fit, but she is one of my favourites
Typically play defensive characters with lots of armour and shields protecting team mates.
Also like support types which can influence the battlefield with lots of utility to enhance team mates for big plays and neutralise enemies. Think characters like medivh and Tass
Something to compensate…?
I personally like utility characters, who shine by their unusual tools.
The Big guy in front that wont die no matter how hard you kill him
AKA the punching bag that laughs in the face of death
Not a small
I play Heroes that fill my requirements for my type of Hero:
