First of all: Nope, I am not calling it bad, I just dont really get its purpose.
I recently started playing Auriel, and I really love her, got level 8 in like a week and i really feel like this Champ is the closest I could find to a main in this game, just love the whole guardian angel stuff…
But when it comes to her ults, I really dont get the crystal one.
You put an ally in stasis for 2 seconds and do some damage when it blows, but overall I dont really see how that is usefull… I can think of one scenario, where a DoT or a nuke like Kael’thas giant fireball is flying, basically saving an ally from dying after a won teamfight, but in any other scenario, I only see it as rooting my ally for 2 seconds so that the enemy team can kill him after that…
It only purpose is to counter burst dmg on a single hero. after that its pretty weak. I had many games were the player i cast it on get killed right away. Would be nice if the player get some sort of protection buff for about 1-2 sec after ult is gone to save him.
In QM you can go the ulti you want. In SL I think people usually like the other one because it can prevent damage and save someone for some time. I think the ressurect ulti can be interrupted? I don’t play Auriel so
As a lvl 76 Auriel I find that Rez comes in handy much more in QM. I argue with my buddy all the time about it but if you couldn’t keep them alive without ages chances are ages just sets them up for some follow up wombo. When I do pick it I try to use it to avoid early incoming damage so when they get out they’re above 50% with some hope to be saved.
It does work well when you’re the focus target, no tanks to peel, or you are planning going piercing lash at 13 (so you can peel for the ages’d ally), but I find Rez solves more problems than it creates if you get a team that has some defensive abilities of their own. Nothing better than rezzing a garrosh after they took 2 min to kill him
Plus I always hear the yackity sax when you get the 20 on rez
TLDR; Her ult’s Suck. Try what you want. Learn to save people with your basic abilities mostly. Ults to cover what your play style lacks
Prevents damage, gives time to rally around said target; deals damage, aka generates energy for a heal, and if they enemy team doesn’t want to take that damage it zones them out and can save the target or buy more time. Rallying around the target to protect/engage/re-engage works well, because of her AoE heal.
It’s very simple in its text, but it fits Auriel’s kit very well.
Gotta say I do feel like people are underrating Res. It’s way more versatile than Crystal tbh. The only issue is that it feeds more if the enemy kills your ally again. Otherwise, both basically have the same weaknesses of staggering deaths sometimes.
Simply put Aegis is just superior version of resurrect. It saves the person from death, gives you ton of energy and some damage. It does require better game sense to use it, it has been the obvious choice of ult ever since Auriel was released. Resurrect has needed buffs forever as it requires person to die which gives exp, enemy will outnumber you for while and gets free kill to enemy from rez with timer if you can even get to the target. Rez has been among the worst ults in the game forever which probably won’t change with our skeleton crew dev team that fixes abilities by giving +/- 5 mana cost for abilities…
@KingFeeder agreed but just like Ley Line Seal, Void Prison or any other stasis it requires game sense. Which means it isn’t useful in low leagues where people have no idea when to use these heroics.
Most of the time they will Aegis a retreating teammate, have 0 energy to help them and just ease the enemys job in chasing him to death.
Resurrect is not much better in this sense, people in low-mid leagues will instantly resurrect a teammate surrounded by 4 enemies, so that they die again and feed the enemy team even more free XP instead of waiting for 5-10 seconds to see if they disperse the corpse.
Quick Match players would like to have a word with you. It’s damn near impossible to use crystal aegis in QM where people just die all over the place for the dumbest reasons. I think Res is almost always better specifically if you’re casually playing in QM lol.
EDIT: Honestly Res wouldn’t be that bad if it reversed XP as well…
Only thing I considered for crystal aegis is using for self-casts. Outside of pyro or similarly targete heroics, the forced stop on the hero tends to be just as much a liability as it is in ‘saving’ the ally, that it seems best to use it for myself as a semi-iceblock (iceblock being better <.< >,>) and otherwise taking the rez if allies are going to be dying more often than I am.
I think she could stand to have her heroics updated, if not have one given to another hero and then get a new one instead.
Are you guys joking? Crystal rocks, especially when you hit that sweet level 20 boost!
Have an ally about to die? Save him from the burst with crystal! Enemies think they’re gonna just burst him down when he pops out? 75% damage reduction, bi****s! I’ve had entire fights turned countless times thanks to crystal.
As for before 20, it makes for a semi-decent protection, not only for your allies but yourself, sometimes buying time if you’re in a pickle.
At least it has interesting design. Its very powerful effect is shielding all damage briefly while exploding for aoe damage that also fuels auriels healing. It also has a negative side which roots the target facilitating follow up combos. Compare this to uther divine shield that has no negative side or counter play at all. It simply works. Imo more skills should be like crystal shield.
30 second longer cooldown, and a decent mana cost on a hero that is mana starved.
But I do think it is best to have counter play designed around what a team decides to do, rather than what they drafted.
